I have my car back from the garage now, after having the head repaired. Apparently a valve wasn't seating right, and all the seals had gone hard. So had the head skimmed, new valves, and new guides. They also broke a head bolt, so had to take the sump off and gave it all a flushing out. Only problem is its still hesitant, which is the reason i took it in there, only for them to tell me it was low on compression and have the head overhauled. Also now its leaking oil, constantly when driving if its wet on the ground you can see drips every couple of meters! Will be phoning them back up first thing tomorrow morning i think

Ah beauty, cheers for those pics. She's looking pretty smart. Just see what happens at the garage :? -
I took my car to the garage, and it was a lead that was making it hesistant and not pulling right. But the also compression tested the engine, and cylinder 5 was only making 70 psi. Should be about 165 i think?? So they're taking the head off tomorrow and hoping its just a valve is burnt out or something similar. Hoping for a head rebuild, and they can whack the kent cams in for me. Just praying its not he block itself as its only 100k ol, and i've only had it two weeks :( Isn't 3k a bit steep for a new engine fitted?? That was mentioned...

Yeah the stonehouse garage. I forget what its called, but they have a very good reputation. I got it to fire up today, was FUEL!! The fuel gauge says it has half a tank, had the fuel line off the injector rail and it wasn't spewing out any, topped it up a bit and it fired up fine. But its still running very hesitant and feel really weak and flat. Hoping the knock sensor will sort it? If not they have all the gear to diagnose the problem. Hope i have it going properly soon :)

I haven't changed the fuel filter, i haven't had any time to do anything with the car as yet. Just hope i can get it to the garage ok, and they'll sort it all out :?

Well i have it booked into a garage tomorrow for them to have a look over it. I've heard very good things about this place and its a vw audi specialist so hoping they can sort it. BUT Today trying to drive home things just got a whole lot worse. It completely lost the ability to pull the car up the hill i was on. Got to about 3k revs then just stopped pulling, and slowly ground to a halt... Dipped the clutch and rev'd the tits off it to get it to pick up again, and then another 10 meters up the hill the same thing happened. It sounds like a bag of spanners and won't go... :( unplugged the maf while the engine was running and nothing happened, so i figured it was duff, but then turned off and restarted the engine and it wasn't loving it at all until i plugged the maf back in, so it must be doing something. I'm hoping its just a dizzy or something, but i have this terrible feeling something is seriously wrong with the whole engine. I do seem to be having some poor luck with cars at the mo. I'll be getting my salvage vr6 back soon so if worse comes to worse i can stick that engine in as it runs fine, but is a bit of an oil burner. RUBBISH!

I'll go to the next Gloucester meet, at the Hot Air Balloon. But thats not for ages now. Also by then i hope to have coilovers, and then i can play around and it get the ride just right. The Koni's and pi springs are rough as hell! -

Its the back scrubbing to shite when i go over bumps, the koni dampers have a few different settings for ride height so we just slapped it on the lowest to see how she sat, but its a bit too level, want to raise the back up another 10mm and hopefully it'll scrub less too. -

Well i got my friend to slap the springs on, and then gave it a good clean up so took it out for some pictures after but it was getting pretty dark so didn't have too much luck. She looks soooo much better for the drop and shiny wheels, but i think the back will have to come up a bit more as its lower than the front and is scrubbing quite badly :( Anyway these are a couple of pics i managed to get before the light totally went. I'll try and get some better ones tomorrow. Just outside my house before i went to get beer Then stopped off at an old haunt for a couple of shots -

I'm almost definate the paint i used was a ridiculous choice. You must understand this is only to last until the weekend when i take them off and refurb them properly. But i used plastikote?! Woodstove spray. It was on the shelf in my workshop and withstands extreme heat... Plus i dig the matt black look  -

The speedlines on the car had been refurbed but pretty badly, so looked shite. Planning to but some bbs Rx's on at the weekend when i put my new springs on so thought i'd experiment with the speedlines while i have em on. Looks soooo good in the flesh, pictures don't really show it in its true light. But at the weekend it'll be looking even better when i get it some new springs on. I read good things about koni ta's with pi springs. Luckily for me these landed on my doorstep today :) -
Yean i know how you feel, i can't bare leaving my car if its not parked properly either

So a distributor engine still has a coilpack? Now i AM confused, i thought the coilpack was a replacement for a distributor, and was just an improved way of sending the spark to the plugs? How can it have both a dizzy and a coilpack? I'm gonna go have a look under the bonnet.

Last night i made the mistake of deciding to polish up the tatty looking ring on my steering wheel, and sort out some bolts for it. After half an hour of rubbing it back with 400grit wet and dry i realised i'd made a huge mistake... But as i'd already started to get the edges a little bit i had to carry on. 3 hours of various grades of wet and dry i'd got it flat and fairly polished so hit it with some autosol and it looked lovely. Sprayed the tops of some skateboard bolts matt black and it looks a lot better. Just waiting on a new horn push off ebay now. -
I've just been trying to get hold one locally and no-where has them on the shelf, and you're right there are two. I've bought some STP fuel system cleaner to shove in and see if it helps it. It was really bad earlier, when i tried to put my foot down the whole car slowed very heavily, and then suddenly cleared up and shot off again. It seems to have no pattern to it, just randomly it screws up. Worcester is a bit of a trek, but if i can't find any more help locally then i would gladly welcome your help. Thankyou :)

I just got back from my local vw specialist and he plugged it in to a little hand held fault code reader thing... The only fault it came up with was the Knock Sensor, so going to try replacing that and see what it does. He didn't know where it was on the vr6, or even if it would fix the problem. Anyone shed any more light on this? Will i be able to pick one up from ECP? Or GSF or something? Thanks very much.

I was going through the history to get it all in chronological order, and found some interesting stuff. Check out this service done in 2003, I'd have sh1t pissed if given this bill. Seems a bit steep. Also the guy had it rolling roaded at the same place, apparently at the same time and it made a very respectable 201bhp. But that was a few years ago now. -
I had a magnex in the past and was very pleased with it, very subtle note but a good sound. I was recently told they were shit compared to milltek though so i'm sure its just down to personal taste?
-
Gotta be 93 i think cos my last vr was a 93 K reg and was coilpack. I only learned that it was the coilpack making it run shite once it had been written off :( All in the past now though :D

I'll have a gander tomorrow, but surely thats quite hard to spot? It all gets a bit snug around the air box. I'm toying with the idea of sticking a k&n on it that i have in the workshop, just for that noise.... Would be a good excuse to do it.

Its a dizzy, engine so cant be the coilpak. Just not sure if its actually a 2.9. It feels a bit more sluggish than my last which was deffo a 2.9. But i've only ever seen 2.8's with a dizzy and its missing the plastic cover that says either dohc or 2.8... I'll see if i can get it plugged into vag com tomorrow morning but its a bit doubtful my mechanic will hook her up right there and then. Just wanting some idea's as i have no idea where to start looking.

I've just bought myself another vr6, and this one just doesn't quite feel right. I'm sure it doesn't feel as quick as my last one, and for the very first touch of the throttle it hesitates. If you rev hard, ease off and then try the throttle again it seems to struggle for a moment, then pick up. Happens in all gears, at any time. Very consistent, and very annoying as it does it through every gear change. Any ideas? Its a 2.9 dizzy as fas as far as i know.
