  1. From Vag £197 for the driveshaft dr mat
  2. offside front wheel bearing £16 or £8 if it's a rear outer cv boot £6 front engine mount £32 steering tracking £20 driveshaft under £100 ( cant remember the price off the top of me'ead) ignition switch £15 as henny said oil filter £10 oil £15 2 litres of dot 4 £6 total parts cost £220 and then £200 max for labour he should be saying that he is trying to keep it under £500 not £1000 most of that stuff is really easy to do the driveshaft would take an hour and while you were at it you would change the cv boot anyway! oil and filter change 20mins ignition switch 30mins front engine mount 10mins wheel bearing 1 hour at max if its a front 30 mins if it's a rear. I would think you could easily do all this in under 3 hours at the going rate of £35-£45 an hour. So your friendly mechanic is overcharging somewhat in my honest opinion!!
  3. I use slick 50 power steering fluid all the time it has PTFE in it as well so seals any troublesome seals it's bloody good stuff I have been using it for the last 4 years and have never had a problem with it!!
  4. It only slightly bent 2 of the exhaust valves on cylinder one and four so it sheared on the up stroke. have a look at the attatched pic you can hardly even see that they're bent got away quite lightly. I did have the broken bolt I was keeping it as a bit of history for the car :D but my sister thought it was rubbish and chucked it away! DOH
  5. I was dreading the point where I had to get the sheared bolt out of the crank as it was flush with the end of the crankshaft. There was me armed with a drill and a set of reverse taps went in with the drill and as I started to drill i noticed that the bolt was turning freely so I just stuck the drill in reverse and the bolt came out without any effort :D Job done obviously it didn't have an awful lot of thread lock on it so dont know how difficult it would be to get out if it did. But if the bolt is intact it shouldn't be that hard to get out just stick it in gear like henny said and get someone to jam on the brakes, get a nice 1/2" bar on it and give it all you got as it is done up pretty damn tight!!

You dont get a chip for £2!!! Now whos the plonker :D
  15. Ok I'll give ya a break then I wont use the nos the first time :D I really miss driving the C as well although it is nice to only have to put a tenner in petrol into the astra a week with the C coz I love driving it I was putting £30-40 in a week makes a hell of a difference running a cheap car can afford to treat the C to a few more treats along the way :D Got a money pot that I have been putting in spare cash to and have already got over £200 in it plus the £2k in the bank so I'm laughing at the moment the respray and the pistons are going to most of the cash in the bank though. I'm not in any real hurry I would like to be able to get on with a few more things though but I can occupy myself polishing, tidying and painting things while I'm waiting for the pistons :D I haven't decided yet weather the C is going to be returned to the duty of daily driver might have it just as the weekend car but that probably wont work as I will want to drive it all the time :D It's almost addictive :D
