i guess it's each to their own... sayin it's crap is a bit harsh.... -
jesus christ, bit of a difference between that & the £150 i was told, mind mine is obviously alot more straight forward i suppose, i think the engine they've got might be a bit of a gem if its a pukka 40k miler. where is that guy based matt? does he work at a VAG garage? no he is a mobile mechanic (thats how he keeps his proces down!), but he is setting up a garage in Westerhope... he would probably take your car to his garage at home and do it there,,, it's a proper workshop.. if you do decide yo ring him just mention Matt with the green mk3 GTi.. he'll know who your on about.. he did some work on iit the other week...
-
be careful... i was down there the other day with my mates... they are doing a seat ibiza VR6 at the mo... they said the lad provided the engine, but his bill was upto £1700 in labour and auxillary parts (and not finished yet!)... Give Barry Swift a call on: 07944 605055 he is an immense mechanic and v reasonably priced and VAG specialist... mention my name and he will be really helpful guaranteed... matt

if your going to spend 2.5k on a new engine and labour, would it not be worth looking at just buying a new rado vr and then breaking yours for parts........ might end up being an option!

sorry to hear about that, i bet your livid.... have you had a second opinion just to be sure!

Anyone feel constantly ripped off by specialists?
mattosmond replied to Rpmayne's topic in Suppliers Forum
there are way too many 'specialists' who actually aren't any better than joe blogs down the road, but because they use that pretence they htink it's ok to have dealer prices...... i wouldn't use anyone apart from my one man band mechanic.... who knows everything about dubs and charges me £20 hour and always plugs the car into the vagcom for free checks for faults corrects them... -

Last week i had the golf's timing belt done, new water pump and throttle body cleaned! all for £183.... So on wed afternoon i jumped in the car to go to sunderland to get soem project owrk printed out.... got to just before the tyne bridge and the clutch pedal dropped to the floor! so pulled up rang my mechanic and he said he would drop round in the morning to take a look. But i remebered that in june just beofre i bought the car the previous owner had the whole clutch replaced for £453.17    So i rang him (mechanic) back and told him,,,, he recommended that i get the aa to drop it off there (The Avenue Garage, Lowfell) to let them take a look as it would all be under warranty... So this morning i get a phone call from this avenue garage saying ' it's not the clutch but the arm near the gearbox that looksl ike a number 9 had sheared off,,,,' not covered by them so i asked how much this would cost to replace? £15 for the part and £96 labour.... armed with this i spoke to my mechanic and he said he would do it for £40 plus the part... under 1/2 the price!! So rang the garage back and informed them i wouldn't using them to the response of: 'oh well, as we've spent time dropping the gearbox then we will charge you £60!!! WTF!!! So they have completely shafted me up the anus!!! rant over just to say i HATE sh!t backstreet garages!!! DON'T USE 'THE AVENUE GARAGE IN LOWFELL, GATESHEAD'  :hitler: :hitler: :hitler:   PS: me and the golf are having a divorce it's cost me hundreds of quid since buying it in august!!! I think corrados are more reliable than these!
