http://www.matey-matey.com/g60-rebuild-article.shtml have a look quite interesting, courtesy of g-werks

woo, thats was at the bristol volksfest, not seen that site before looks good. sadly it looks like i'm gonna put the car up for sale soon :( , looks like i'm gonna be made redundant at work  but if it goes i'll be back with another dub prob a mk3 polo gt for a while till i get sorted
-
good luck, i bet you'll be glad to get it back on the road
-
ooopppps sorry  wrote it quick before i went to work, cant remember what i was gonna say,
-
no it seems quicker off the start but goes through the gears quite fast, with the old box it was far too short and could nt make use of the power. but my engine been lightened and balanced and seems to rev up very fast, i ve never driven a g60 with a g-lader so dont really know what its like perhaps if there is a problem the longer geared box isnt helping and making it feel really slow :? if it was 200bhp but down on torque the power would be really high up like honda v-tec engines as torque and power cross at 5250rpm. sounds like it just needs setting up, or its not as high power as its ment to be. could the guy have
-
yeah, not sure what the next show is though, prob go quiet for the winter :(
-
the gears in a mk3 are a lot taller, seems to suit my car very well though. maybe one of the sensors is faulty or the dizzy timing is way off, or the cam belt out a notch? are you far from g-werks i'm sure Darren would know whats up do you know what sort of boost it is putting out? i think there is a way to do it with the mfa if there is no gauge, maybe try a search.
-
i used a sachs power/uprated clutch made for a vr6 on mine, its outlasted the box, but then the box has done 130k and the clutch about 5k :) i've got the mk3 box in and its seems much better, its not as frantic as the 1.8 16v box i had, but seems to be making better use of the power, and 5th gear is much better especailly with my noisey charger  the only problem i had was with the shift mech, it has a luvely big weight on which should make for a smooth easy gear change but unfortunatly it would not clear my charge cooler. :( so at the mo its a bit of a hybrid slector with parts from the older cable change boxes and the mk3 one, but seems to be working ok.

thanks Darren :) it is clever considering its that old. trying to understand and learn more about it is difficult, cant imagine how complicated new engine mangemnet systems are. i just came up with a idea with the isv. on the throttle body there is a switch for when the throttle is closed, i was thinking i could link this to a simple circuit which allows the isv to get its supply to open up on idle. but as soon as the throttle starts to open and the switch opens it cuts off any supply to the isv, so if the manifold pressure exceded 0.8 bar and the ecu sends a signal to the isv it would have no effect. do you think this could work? i guess it could effect other items this switch is used for :? i'm off for a tinker with my multimeter (hope i dont blow anything  )
-
hows does the ecu change the timing on a g60 though? as the timing is set/adjusted manually on a g60. if the ecu could control the timing why will the engine pink if you have the dizzy to far advanced? i understand this is how it would work on more modern engine management systems which use a dizzy less set-up, i can remember reading that on the g60 management when the knock sensor detects pinking it will try to overcome it by altering the fueling rather than the timing, which is why it can only try and prevent it up to a certain point. can anybody confirm this is correct? i've got a custom chip on my car at the moment, but this will not prevent the isv opening up when the boost level gets to a certain value, this is controled by the map sensor and i dont think the chip has any part to this.

Hi, was wantind to learn a bit more about the g60 managent and woundered if anyone can help me. i understand that when using over 15ish psi the isv opens up as a safety feature, i ve also heard that the timing is retarded when this happens. how does it retard the timing? because the dizzy is adjusted manually :? the engine mangement has a knocksensor can it control the timing at all or does it just effect the fueling to try and stop pinking? i have got my isv re-routed so if it blows off any boost it will not escape. but if my timing is being retarded then i would be loseing power. do you think there are much benefits with going for a aftermarket electrionic dizzy less ignition, so it could control the timing and be more effeicent, but leave the g60 management controling the fueling side of things? has anybody run this kind of set-up? thanks for any help

yep when i drive over a penny coin you can tell what side its up
-
lol, i dont think they have been right for a while. :( i ve got poly bushes on is that what you mean :? or is it bushes on the shocks?
-
cheers mate, 8) my avos are desperatly in need of a rebuild, but was thinking about getting a different make, but i want to make sure i get it low, but looking at your car i should be ok with them. what width and offset are your rims? (so many questions :) )
-
cars looking really sweet what coil-overs are you using? and how do you rate them cheers
-
she was looking very nice at E38 8) will she be getting some supercharged crossflow power :?:
-
no you can get it out with the inlet manifold still on, its a pain though
-
BiggerBigBens syncro thats my favourite, althou i prefere the look of it when it was low at inters. not into massive flaired arches and really wide wheels so that rules out quite a few others, but i still think there nice just not to my taste
-
mines not a daily driver, i've got a old polo i use to run about in, and when the weathers crap. quite lucky i live close to where i work so normally ride my bike.

rattly knocking noise from mid to top end on a G60
scruffydubbers replied to Henny's topic in Engine Bay
wow that pretty strange. its not one of the little bolts which hold the wedge in place on one of the throttle flaps, or is it bigger than that. surpose it could have been lodged in the intercooler somewhere :? -
i've manged to source a couple of mk3 16v boxes, so looks like i will be fitting one of these, one comapny wanted a £250 for one if anyones interested i can pm the number, but i did manage to find one a lot cheaper so thers a couple about, hopefully be picking it up tomorrow, i'll let you know what its like when sorted out :)
-
i should be able to comment soon on the difference between the g60 and the 1.8 16v boxes. what about a 6sp tdi unit? does anyone know if these would bolt on? and are they much bigger in size or will they slot straight in?
-
so can anybody help with advice on the conversion? what are the differences if any between the system used on a normal mk2 syncro or passat syncro compared to the system used on a rallye syncro. i know the boot floor has to be modified, what boot floor can you use, one from the donor vehcle? i guess you need all the suspension components drive shafts prop shaft rear diff syncro gearbox anything i've forgotten? does the suspension bolt onto the same mounting points as the standard set-up? or do mounting points have to be taken from a donor car and correctly aligned? i know there is a few about, but is there anyonw who has done it/doing it themselves? cheers
-
yeah it was good chatting to you mate. on the 1.8 16v box i think it was sitting around 4000 rpm at 80mph. i think the mk3 16v boxes have quite a bit longer ratios though. i'm in the middle of fitting a spare g60 box which will get the car back on the road, once i ve fitted it i'll compare the g60 and 1.8 16v box see if theres much difference.

bit worried about mine, got up to 140 oil temp at the weekend, and its running a vr6 rad, twin pacet fans and an mocal oil cooler already  so might have to look at a bigger oil cooler or some other cooling methods. somebody was asking about oil cooler locations if you look at my car in the gallery section theres a pic without the front bumper on where you can see the oil cooler, i ve also seen a couple of cars with them in a simular place to where the g60 intercooler would sit, looked like a good place to mount it.
