Heh congratulations on your new ownership, I've no doubt you'll be very pleased right now, I remember smiling for ages after I bought mine. I've got first registration October 1989 and in the next few months I'm purchasing a certificate from VW which I hope will tell me the date of manufacture from the factory. http://automuseum.volkswagen.de/urkunden.html?&L=1 Corrados look great in white, is it this one - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1989-VOLKSWAGEN-C ... 3a59a7afe6

Engine oot today, lifted the engine and gearbox out as one, took 4 guys to manage it out onto a pallet as we have the car in a sloped gravel driveway there was no way to use traditional methods, hoists, pallet trucks etc............. Pics to follow

Here is a link I'm afraid, I started this build thread on the Scottish VAG site, agreed it really should have started here being the true home of all things Corrado. http://www.scottishvag.net/phpBB3/viewt ... &sk=t&sd=a I'd really appreciate finding out from anyone how old are Corrado's still on the road as mine was first registered in October '89 and my gearbox was built in July '89 I imagine the car will be one of the first, started in May '89 I think.... anyone else celebrating their Corrado's 21st birthday this year?

Anyone one??? Would ETKA be of any help???

I'm purchasing a Wavetrac LSD for an 02a box in my '89 16V. There is a changeover of gearbox build at 13th Sep 89 after checking my VIN Wavetrac are suggesting that my gearbox is an early type, that does not allow direct fitment of the diff. The early 02A internals are vastly different to the later items and the diff will only fit if you change a number of components (crown wheel, final drive etc.). The suggestion is to switch the gearbox itself for a later item. I've only been around Corrado's for a couple of years and have never heard this early type gearbox mentioned. We've started to prepare the car for lifting out the engine and gearbox so today I had a chance to see the code is AGY with build date 24/7/19089, remarkably the same date (24th July) as both my anniversary (24/7/2004)and the day the land to build my house on was bought (24/7/1939). :shades: Back to topic, can anyone confirm any of this before I go and get another box?

Excellent, thanks. My C is 21 this year and I want to make an effort and celebrate the actual manufacture date if I can. thanks again :salute:

Will it be possible to find out the date my car was manufactured?

Got a reply back from Eibach, these are suitable for my '89 Corrado. Ordered a shim pack for the rears as these are being stripped for new stub axles this week anyway, seems convenient to fit some while I'm at it.
-
Try the Wiki, scroll to the bottom for a useful diagram to explain offset and more useful sites. http://wiki.the-corrado.net/wheel_and_t ... ation.html I think you have to fit wheels with the same bore, unless an adaptor ring can be fitted to make the wheel bore match yours. Not immensely gifted with knowledge on wheels tho.

Looking at Eibach camber bolts and shims and can only find for '90 Corrado on, has anyone fitted these to know if suitable for my '89 16V please?
-
I'm looking to purchase Eibach sets as I'm replacing the stub axles on the rear and doing a brake upgrade to the fronts it makes sense to fit these adjustments while I'm removing stubs etc. As fronts are adjustable anyway (bolts) I would especially like to hear if anyone has preference to the rear camber setting. My setup preference is towards handling first tyre wear a lowly second, track day racer that gets a fair but of road use too. I'm running on 15x7 rims, 195/45 tyres, coilovers lowered suspension to wishbones horizontal. Anybody running these or have any opinions on set up of camber shims for the rear and camber bolts for the front.

The definitive "What Air Filter?" discussion thread
strimmer replied to CazzaVR's topic in Engine Bay
Well another great read, here I am looking for any info on my air filter as I'm selling it. My 2p to the thread On my 1.8 16V stock engine I have the Pipercross PK223, at the other end of airflow the engine is helped to breath mated to a 4 branch manifold and as the exhaust is a tad excessive  I've never noticed how loud the air filter roars. But what might be of interest, or not  , I rollong roaded the beast to 149bhp, maybe that is of no surprise to some, I was bowled over but I'm easily pleased! Perhaps its the combination of air filter and manifold/exhaust or does the exhaust/manifold take all the credit for the up in power from standard, I don't know? -
Think adding a fuekl regulator will do, I reckon that's what is fitted to mine, someone else here could know for sure. If not I'll get mine checked tommorrow for you.

I've no experience of carbs............ yet!!! I will transplant this during the winter months, as is the way perhpas I'll learn something useful along the way, I'm happy to pass on my findings. I have no clue about set up as all the work was done by the guy I bought the engine from, fingers crossed the engine will drop straight in.
-
I've got an engine layed up for a winter transplant with carbs, spec is very similar to yours. The block was a 1.8 overbored to just under 2.0l and with bottom end and head work, and a pair of high lift cams made 198bhp on a rolling road. If yours is the 2.0l block I think it has a longer stroke and will create a little more power than mine, as soon as possible I'll check the spec in full and post it up for you to compare, for now here's some pics of how it looks.
-
4 branch manifold into a OMP Group A spec exhaust, think the back box (the only box) is Magnex. :D :D That's me :D :D Thank you, it is a great noise. Not very legal and hard to live for some but I can and I love it.

Sprint Day organised by Type-R Scotland at Ingliston, Edinburgh on 3rd May 2009 Monstrous car, struggled on the day with getting brake temperature and traction was a huge issue. This beast can do side by side a Porsche GT3 in a straight line. He runs somehwhere over 340bhp, believed to be 380bhp, Audi 1.8T engine and a host of parts I don't think I know enough about to go into. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp7rKrOcYfA Enjoy.

ET24, well I do fell a doughball. Checked on the rims outside as I probably should have in the first place and its been stamped on them all along.... doh I have thought of 16" wheels and there are a lot more of them around, I will give it some more thought. To revise the requirement then probably 7.5J wheel with an ET30 would do lovely. Only need to decide on 15 or 16" now.

Sorry mate that is all I have right now, your welcome to try the following link of some shots up on Knockhill, I think they got some pictures of the Corrado in the album and a tasty movie of my driving beyond the limits of adhesion.. :cuckoo: http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n68/ ... V00272.flv

After much deliberation I reckon the only way to get more rubber on the road/track and keep my ride height is too sneak under the arches an extra 1/2" of wheel. I am running 15x7 ET30 wheels and want to go wider but without touching the arches, no pulling wanted right now. The arches are rolled and the car is low, very low. To get the wheels under the arch I can allow about 8mm so I have concluded that an extra 0.5" wider on the wheel and a larger offset by 5mm will bring the wheel out by 7.5mm. Can anybody let me know if any, all or some of that makes sense and has anybody have any suggestions for wheels that come 15x7.5 ET35, ooooh they have to be 4x100 too.

Looks well slammed now, are you sure you didn't have it lifted by a hidden jack for the first picture

Which coilovers do you use on your really bumpy local roads?
strimmer replied to Leonard's topic in Drivetrain
Scotland FTW. Up here your never short of a cracking B road... ........crack yer head off the sunroof, the side pillars ... For clarity my preference is ultimately to hold the road, no matter what the road throws at it, much of my favourite roads are not just potholed but weird with off/on camber, twisty, gravel strewn, take off ramps (little bridges) dead rabbits leaving greasy patches on smooth tarmac just after the apex.... I ran 16" wheels Koni Adjustable Coilovers Dropped till wishbone was just above horizontal A quarter turn from soft on the back and 3/4 turn on the front 30psi on an average day Polybushed allround I loved the ride, steering weighted up lurvely at speed thru the bends really hunkered down to get good grip thru twisty bits, rattled you a bit over potholes but it didn't unsettle the car which was for me the most important part, no one wants to be bounced across the road mid corner. I am far from experienced but I did find the general drive smooth, I rarely hit the bump stops as it wasn't all that low and when I needed it the suspension was firm and responsive to anything I could give it. I should say this is a 16V Corrado, after all everything is subjective what how much you can give it some. -
That's superb, I had the spreadsheet already but could'nt get my head round entering the data, now I'm away trying box after box. Now I see this I will get the box code to confirm which ratios I've got. The gearbox comes with a Peloquin diff so I am really sticking to the G60 box, and as its been rebult already I'm not planning on changing any gears or final drive just yet. I wondered if anyone had experienced using this box, I reckoned with upped power of the 16V the longer box would not be a hinderance to accleration. From the spreadsheet I can expect 170 mph in 5th, eh nooo, I'm not really interested in 5th gear anyway, the car will be properly pushed on track nights at Knockhill circuit next year so I don't expect to need 5th, or maybe I will I suppose I've really talked myself into realising that what will be best is just to fit it and become the wiser for the experience, perhaps it might help somelse one day. But just for now feel free to throw in any advice on the mechanics of the change over if there are any traps to watch out.

I have acquired a new engine for me Corrado guys, its over-bored to 1998cc, (not 100% on exact cc) blueprinted, lightened and balanced, gas flowed head with Kent cam (can find out which) and running twin 40/48?? carburettors, rolling roaded to 198bhp. I've read a lot of good stuff on ratios on the forum here and wondered if for this engine output there are any opinions on fitting a G60 box to this engine, also to ask if the mating of engine and box is a simple affair or do I need to be aware of anything. Also have an option to acquire a final drive to lower the ratios, something offical VW final ratio a guy has from a previous 4 wheel drive setup, will find out exact detail later. Is it beneficial to lower the overall ratio of the G60 box with the bhp output of the engie in mind? P.S. Running on 15" rims.
