Another one bites the dust... - Sod the cost, i need a rado.
drunkenmunkey replied to grimmy's topic in General Car Chat
For what it's worth I had a similar experience but I was on a motorbike, I went flying throught the air, landed on my head & was laid up for months - anyway, I was wasted but I did get the womans reg number & contact details thank god! The following sounds very alarmist & mercenary I know but I am still dealing witht the effects of a f##king nob who sherked their responsibility & left me in a state. Admitedly I wasn't all cosy in a car though  IMO Call the Police! And report the accident, if you don't then should you suffer adverse affects later then you don't have a leg to stand on. It'll be on the hospital records that you recieved an injury and the concussion you suffered probably impaired your judgement when dealing with the guy who hit you. He'll be insured so that'll cover him. Rant over....sorry :) -
Hi jazzdevil I used to be the proud owner of Scala Scirocco which is the Mk2 with the 138bhp GTI engine, if it's one of those then I suppose in salesman speak it might be a 'rare GTi version', there aren't that many around. It was an awesome car for the money but the heater controls were also knackered on mine, I never got round to doing the job but compared to my Corrado it looks like a simple job.

When the engine oil is hot you've been running the engine, the oil has therefore been flung up and around the various components including the dipstick, appearing higher. The manual will say to leave it 10mins to let the oil drain back down into the sump, after 10-15mins [or cold as steve @ says] will be your actual oil level. Sounds like you need to stick some more oil in it!

Yep, that looks about right to me, most VWs of this age [don't know about the newer ones] have the stut tops standing proud & the gap looks about right on yours. As long as you have everything in the right order and to the correct torque they're as they should be. A few years back a mechanic tried to fail my GTI MOT because of it, I took it to a VW specialist & he said it was right & passed it. There is a reason for this gap but I forget, I'm sure someone on here will know why. Hope it helps!

:D I stand corrected!

Try Eurocarparts for a guide price on chains, tensioners, gaskets, rings, shells etc

anyone live near stirling in scotland??
drunkenmunkey replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in General Car Chat
I stay in Stirling mate and could look at it for you...I've not much experience of G60s though, more VR6. It's not blue is it? -I might know it -
I have a beemer 3 series which I need to sell...BUT...it's got a sticky valve and I can't get the bugger to turn over, does anyone know how to deal with this without taking the head to bits? Could I tow/drag it in gear?

:D I was thinking the cheaper end of the spectrum, f##k it just get a 3.2 & turbo it!

Personnaly I don't think it sounds too bad, if you're bottom ends knocking you have 2 options - Get hold of a 2.8 [AAA] engine, you should get a completish one for £250 if you hunt and have the block bored [£150max], then presuming the pistons etc are OK stick them back in [with new shells and rings], stick the 2.8 head on [with new seals] or have yours skimmed [£30], change the chains & tensioners while the engines out, maybe the clutch et voila! a new block that shouldn't need touching for 50K and you can sell the remaining bits... OR have the existing block honed or if it's too bad over-bored [see above] & go for some 82.5mm pistons [£450ish] & change chains etc....then stick a 'charger on it  EDIT: Just read that you'd be looking to get someone else to do this for you which obviously means more expense, if you were nearer I'd offer my services, have you got a mate with any mechanical inclination? 'Cause VR6 engines are pretty 'legolike' & straight forward..... if you have the right tools. Otherwise you could just stick a 2.8 lump in for the short term and get your 2.9 done as and when. Just my opinion though... Good luck

As above really, I've seen a v nice black scooby wagon with 1 owner, FSH & 84K in a local auction for 'cheap'. Does anyone know how they handle & feel compared to a VR6? Thanks
-
Just realised that this is a stupid question! Had look for myself  ...Tempting though, but Supercharged looks easier. EDIT: Didn't find that info' though! Thanks Cheeswire

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3199706 This seems cheap what else would I need?

Hi J-Dub, I've relatively recently bought a VR6 and found it to be pretty cheap to run, these things are all relative though  . I had a 98 323 touring and compared to that the costs are about the same [fuel, parts etc] but if you are mechanically minded a VR6 is MUCH easier to work on and therefore cheaper. You also have the benefit of a substantial fanbase with friendly folk on forums like this offering help and advice. I'm sure this will upset some members here but I found the 16v didn't really meet my expectations of a Corrado Anyway, I have never regretted my purchase and would recommend to you to GET ONE! Make sure it has a full history or at least a wad of reciepts, the rest is all on Wiki [rear axle bushes, timing chain & tensioner etc] Hope it helps Go on you know you want to.......

They should bolt straight in as far as I'm aware, don't bother with the springs though. Bilstein tend to use Ventura springs with their cheaper kits and they are PANTS!

If there's any left can you put me down for one? Thanks -
Very nice, loving the wheels!

I've had both a GTI & a CTI, in between all of the electrical failures  they were both nippy tin boxes. As for what they're worth broken I don't know mate sorry, hoods were always in high demand as were good rear axles. You could have a look on EGay to get an idea?

They seem cheap as chips, but are they any good????????

Will Mk2 GTI Koni coilovers fit a Corrado VR6?
drunkenmunkey replied to drunkenmunkey's topic in Drivetrain
Ahh! Thanks anyway! -
As above really, I have the opportunity to buy some pretty cheap so t'would be great if they fit
-
In my experience the standard of finish isn`t that good IMO, I`ve had springs, exhausts & ball joints in the past mostly for VW, all of which either didn`t fit perfectly or wore out very quickly. Just my opinion though :)
-
I've had problems with GSF kit, try Eurocarparts a lot of their parts are OE. Otherwise IMO go for VAG tensioners, guides, clutch and gasket and ECP for the rest.
-
I don't know what exhaust it is, I think it was fitted during James's CorradoVR6n.o.s' ownership, I'd be interested to know myself! Plans are mainly for the drivetrain - new front & rear OE bushes all round and suspension kit [still trying to retain an element of comfort] torn between £250 for Weitec GT & £380 for a Koni kit.....other than that it needs a few consumables.......Although I am temtped by the whole supercharged idea

It's what's under the bonnet that counts :)
