  1. Finally got round to posting a few piccies, they're taken on a phone so a bit cr#p but what do you think?
  2. Can you put me down for the 4+4 jobbie. Thanks :)
  3. Cool, I'll budget for a rebuild then, but not just yet there's still some thrashing to be done :D Thanks
  4. Bugger! Thought I was going to get away with it there  , when you say rebuild what should I budget for? Excuse my ignorance I've never rebuilt a bottom end before - can I look out for a 2.8 bottom end, have in overbored & slap on some thicker piston rings? :)
  5. Yep! Sounds like what I have, from what you guys have said it sounds like it's just an acceptable part of VR ownership - should I worry about it?
  6. I've only just bought it and didn't notice it at first. It was James's [CorradoVR6nos] car at some point & he did all tensioners as far as I know, along with the clutch, piston rings, shells & head rebuild. Dinkus could you describe to noise you get?
  7. My VR makes a very worrying noise on start up :? , particularly from cold - It clatters/rattles all the way up to 3000rpm, beyond that it's fine and it's also fine when it's warm. Could it be something to do with the tensioner - chains were changed 20k ago. Does anyone have experience of this? If it is slapping what's gonna happen? Thanks
  8. I am about to replace my struts & springs on my VR6 along with front wishbones & rear axle bushes but I'm torn :? I have about £300 I've had a look at various threads & I know it's a difficult topic but what do you have and how is it? In peoples opinion what's the best option for a 'tight' feel but supple [non crashy] ride? G-Man has offered me some Hicon GT Coillies for £299 which seems cheap :) , but will they be harsh ? Am I better to go for the GT kit? Confused confused confused! Much appreciated
  9. JayG60- definitely do the chains if they're original, if you're spliting the gearbox from the engine anyway why pay for the [considerable]labour to do that twice? Rather than the chains being the weak link [no pun intended ] it's the tensioners which need attention - if one goes the [already slack] 127k chain may jump a tooth & BANG goes whatever it takes with it! For me it's a no brainer, but if you have the luxury take the rocker cover off and inspect the wear on the top tensioner, if it has two gooves in it then it's buggered [likely]. If not you've ruled it out and it's one less thing to stress about. Whilst you've got the rocker off you could take off the head and replace the valve stem seals which are probably past their best at 127k :) , this may solve your've 'smoking' problem. As far as I'm aware smoking on acceleration suggests the stem seals whereas smoking all the time suggests piston rings, but anyone who knows better feel free to set me straight  Hope this helps - if you're handy with a spanner you can do all of these jobs yourself with a bit of time.
  10. Just checked with Bilstein and they can rebuild them! :D BUT they cost £100 per damper after carriage  So not worth it with a Sprintline kit then....but anyone whose racing may want to give them a call.
  11. The rears are getting 'bouncy' and one is weaping so I was planning to do all four and the rear axle bushes/ top mounts etc while I'm there. I've heard of people refurbishing 4 struts for under £100 so if the turnaround's not too slow it seems like a no brainer. I'll keep looking and let people know, if they're interested.
  12. Does anyone know of a company that can do this? 'Cause I like my Billies and don't really want to spend £400 on new suspension :)
  13. Thanks StuartFZF400, I've decided on a weitec gt kit and replace the lower wishbone bushes. This post was an act of desperation as I'd gone round in circles and didn't want to spent 300 quid on sh#te! But I've heard good things about the Weitecs, so thems the ones. Cheers
  14. I've trawled thro' most of the suspension topics and it's confused me more! I need to replace a rear bilstein sportline shock, but looking at the rest they'll probably want doing soon anyway - they're getting really 'crashy' as well, so I'm looking for a shock & coil kit or may keep sprintline springs which can soak up the crap Scottish potholes up here - What's the best for ride quality - without going OE!!! I'm not taking it on a track so roll is no great issue to me....and I'm 33....with kids! All opinions welcome!
  15. Just saw this plate at http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/sear ... esults.asp £489...it's not perfect but not bad for that much.
  16. It's been a while but I used to have an E36 - The PCD was 112 -I think! and they were ET38 but would fit 5 series alloys as well with a bit of jiggery pokery - ET40. Hope it helps mate
  17. Nope! I think a wee chat with the bank is the order of the day and try to keep the VR6, just one thing...does anyone fancy telling that to my wife instead of me?!
  18. Thanks mate :) It is a beauty, took it into ATS the other day and it drew a crowd - didn't get that in my beemer touring! I haven't seen yours around yet, I'll keep an eye out.
  19. He reckons it's the valve....but the boiler is OLD and probably could do with replacing, it takes over an hour to heat up the closest radiator. I was considering buying one for £6-700 and fitting it myself but I can't be ar#ed with the hassle. We did look at burseries but apparently we aren't spending enough and the house isn't old enough...Time to talk to the bank methinks!
  20.   Our bloody central heating boilers just gone and the Corgi' fitter has 'kindly' said that he can just replace the boiler for £1200! The lovely new Dragon Green VR6 that I've just bought [and stuck new rear shocks, front tyres, couple of pipes and kissed alot] may have to go! It is an awesome car, why why why why why :( :( By the way James I've taken some pics of her now [she looks the same as when you owned her] I just haven't had time to post them - they're on their way. Sorry to hear about yours going - to anyone in the market for James' car, his old one has been abused for the last 1.5 years and still feels quality - a testamet to the mans work!
  21. My rear Billies Sportline shocks are shot, does anyone know if I can replace them with OE Billies and retain the springs? How much will the ride height be affected? :? Much appreciated
  22. MK3 all the way 16v all the way, then open up the head and stick in a KR inlet cam  , the Mk3's cam is much more mild.
  23. :D :D Just picked it up! It's not too bad - paintwork is still nice, someones taken a black marker pen to the DOHC indent part of the engine cover!?????? :? One of the vacuum pipes had split - now fixed and there's a small amount of oil weaping from what looks like a sensor/sender unit situated in the front of the sump [there's 2 and it's the one on the offside - anyone know what it's called?]. Ahh yes and the heater is stuck on hot - bowden cables??? With a bit of luck I shouldn't have to do much more than a full service and a few repairs! The plan is to treat it to regular inspection and kiss it regularlyxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx! Thanks to everyone for their advice- especially James [are you interested in photos of it now?]
  24. Now I know it was Corrasovr6-nos' car I must admit to being a whole lot more comfortable about buying it, fingers crossed it doesn't blow up :) I'll let you all know how it goes!.
