  1. I'm ok at the moment buddy. Fortunately Lucy's parent's are ok with it being there until I can get it sorted. I'm hoping to trailer it into work at some point next week. The guys at work have been brilliant letting me keep it there. That way I can work on it on a proper ramp which will be fabulous. When it's back and MOT'd I will keep it at my parent's house I think. Unless I can find a garage or something in Bury.
  2. Maybe it's the sun we're getting today coupled with the fact that I finally got around to filing my pointless ass tax return today and the thought of moving into my new flat on Friday but I peeled the cover off the Rado today and felt really good about it for the first time in a few weeks. It's still sat exactly where I left it. But even with no front end and on sh!tty steel wheels it's still a sexy car. :luvlove: Every time I hear a loud (nice) exhaust or engine or see a nice car on the road it just makes me pine for it all the more.
  3. Hello matey, cheers for the offer. :D I'm sorting out a place to live first (hopefully found somewhere today) and once I'm settled there I'm gonna think about the car. It's really depressing. It's just sat in the middle of the drive with a cover over it covered in snow. Can't bring myself to even look at it at the moment. :( My ex has just disappeared (gone to stay with her brother) and left me by myself with her parents. :?
  4. Will do mate. I expect I'll start work on it again in about a month's time. I'll give you a shout. 8) I have to say the offers of help have been blinding. And people wonder why I spend so much time on here?! no probs. I drink alot of tea though, so be prepared![/quote:3sz0bzxw] I don't drink tea so am rubbish at making it so you need to be prepared for that!
  5. I know that's most likely not the case buddy. :D Just illustrating how determined I am to put this thing right. 8)

  7. Thanks for all the kind words guys and offers of help. I may take some of you up on those! :D I need to concentrate on the more important issues like finding somewhere to live so the car is going to have to take a back seat for a while anyway. I'm going to steal a recovery truck from work and ditch it somewhere out of the way at our garage whilst I get myself back on my feet. I need a break from it. Thanks to everyone who has followed this thread but there probably won't be an update for a little while. But rest assured I WILL get this car back on the road. Even if I have to find another bloody engine for it.
  8. Caroline. I would like to put it in you. X  Dear lord. Bored of Horse and Hound this evening?
  9. You lot are right. I know that deep down I will get this car back on the road. I just don't have it in me right now so I'm gonna leave it for when I do. Going to look at a flat tomorrow hopefully that has a garage....
  10. Cheers for all the kind words guys. I really appreciate it. I just don't know what to do. If the intermediate shaft is gone the engine will have to come out again in order for me to replace it. Assuming I can find a replacement. Although that shouldn't be too hard given that the PG shares the same shaft with a lot of other VW engines. I need a replacement distributor, again shouldn't be too hard to source. But what else is gone? Why is the pump seizing up in the first place? At the moment the best I can hope for is that it's a dud pump. I can't bring myself to look at the damn thing. I'm not even thinking about the money, it's just all the time and effort and weekends I've given up to do this and it's gone to hell in a hand basket in the final stages. It would destroy me to break it. It's sounds sad but this car means so much more to me than just being a mode of transport. At a time when I have sooooo much else on my mind, like ending a four year relationship and having to find somewhere else to live, this is the last thing I needed. I should be able to store it at work in the short term. That's something at least. I need to sort out my other problems first. Think forgetting about it for a while is the best option. I don't want to do anything rash.
  11. It must have done really. The engine was turning over fine so something has gone. Either the cam belt was skipping teeth or the intermediate shaft was.
  12. Well, just been out with the car. It is the oil pump that's fecked after all. Tried turning it again and it turned but then got really difficult, now it won't turn at all. I've had a better look at the distributor and it's fecked too. Obviously were the oil pump has been seizing up it's wrecked the slot at the bottom of it. God knows what other damage has been done. I don't get it, it's a brand new pump and I can't see what would block it. I'm just about done now. It can't stay where it is, I've split up with my girlfriend and it's on her parent's property. The weather is so sh!te I can't work on it and there's no sign of that letting up any time soon. I rarely admit defeat but I'm struggling hard to find reasons not to break it. :( :( :(
  13. Hopefully Sunday mate. It's my last chance really. If it doesn't work by the end of Sunday I'm screwed. I'll probably end up having to trailer it to work. :(
  14. Right, we're back on track now. Just got in from removing the distributor (almost lost my finger tips in the process it's so cold!) and the shaft now turns as does the dizzy. Not sure what was going on there. Haven't replaced the dizzy yet but at least I know it's not a sump off job to get it sorted. :D
  15. Something seriously screwy is going on here. Just took the charger, alternator and water pump off and removed the cam belt. The intermediate shaft won't turn! I can only move it about an inch in either direction. Same if I try to move the rotor arm. It'll only turn a little bit in either direction. It was fine before as I turned the engine over by hand to get it to TDC in the first place. Really weird. I can't see that it's catching on anything. Surely I should just be able to spin it all the way round? Or am I missing something?
  16. You're not alone there buddy! It's not snowing here yet but I think it's coming. Just hope it's ok on Sunday as that is my last chance to get this car back on the road really. My life is falling apart around me at the moment and I need this car working ASAP as I don't think it's welcome where it is any more.
  17. Yeah, I timed the engine to TDC using the cam sprocket. It's defo out. I'm just gonna take the belt off and start again from scratch.
  18. That's ok mate, I knew what you meant. :D Think there are gonna be even tighter controls at airports etc after the attempted bombing on Christmas day. :(
  19. Why did you move?! I love it over there, hoping to go and work in Sanibel for a while in a year or so :) My parents separated when I was pretty young. My Dad is American and my Mother is English. I moved back with her. May go back there one day as I still have citizenship. It's pretty cool to think I can go back whenever I want if things go completely wrong here, which is a distinct possibility if recent events are anything to go by! My Dad lives in California now.
  20. I'm from Lakeland! But now live in England. :D Cool to have someone from my home state on the forum. Don't listen to those guys. Stick whatever you want on your car. Or go on their threads and pass judgment on their cars....
  21. Sweet, I'll give that a try. Probably not gonna get back on it until Sunday now though when I have another day off. Bit of a begger. Really just want to get it running right but it's sooooo fecking cold out there and meant to get worse this week. :(
  22. yup. the brake light has a push to brake switch. When the brake pedal is in the up position it turns off the light.Have a snoop under the dash. You'll work it out. Were you mucking around with the brake/servo setup during your trials and tribulations? Yep, had the entire brake system in bits. I'm starting to get the feeling there is going to be a few things I need to iron out over the coming weeks. :|
  23. Ok, some other strange problem with my car. The rear lights are now stuck on! As soon as I connect the battery they come on and won't come off. Any ideas?
