You anywhere near Lakeland buddy? :D
-
Happens to me all the bloody time!
-
Nah it's really not that bad mate. Just an annoyance because I'm going to have to go back and take stuff off and redo things I've already done once. It's nothing too taxing though.
-
Not checked the intermediate shaft timing mark yet as the lower belt cover is still on. It can't have moved though surely. The timing marks on all the sprockets were perfect and it was belted up. But then the rotor arm was timed too. But now it isn't????????!!!! I haven't got a timing light but I don't need one to see it's out! I probably should blag one though. I was hoping it would just run vaguely right so I could fine tune it later by turning the dizzy. Think it's a bit far to turn it though really....
-
Well, I had hoped to tell you all that it's running but it's not.... Somehow, and I have no idea how, the ignition timing is way off. When I had the engine out I timed it all up and it was fine. I tried to start the engine this afternoon and it wouldn't go so first thing I did was set the engine to TDC and took the dizzy cap off. The rotor arm is way off. A little over 90 degrees out I'd say. I have no idea how that could have happened. Oh well, I don't have much luck with ignition timing so I'm taking it on the chin. At least it's a problem I can sort out. But not today because it is dark and cold now. :camp:

Nice one mate, really appreciate that. Let me know when you require the monies. :D
-
 You're keeping your car in a church?! I've booked the MOT for 14th Jan. What can I say. I'm a pretty optimistic person. The house I'm moving to has a garage too but nowhere near as nice as the one here. It would really just do for storing the car in. I won't be able to work on it in the garage as there isn't enough room.
-
It's great isn't it. As you can see from this thread I don't take it for granted. I've only got it for another two weeks. We're moving into our own place.
-
It's so close now I can feel it! Should have a good update for you all on Sunday weather permitting. :D
-
Was it black?
-
 It's disgusting out there! Bloody winter! I hate it. Role on summer!
-
Oh well, looks like I've been rained off today anyway. It's really cold and although the car is in a car port the wind is blowing the rain inside. I'm getting drenched. :(
-
so how was it capped off then ? The oil feed had just been screwed straight into the head. The way it should be from what I can work out there is a union that screws into the head with the pressure sender around it and the oil feed screws into the end of the union. The union and sender were both missing.
-
The one that goes into the side of the head just before the oil feed for the charger. It'll be different to a VR one I'm sure but thanks for the offer Mic.

Right, last few bits to go back on are soaking in buckets/in the dishwasher being cleaned up. I've got another cam cover that has been partly polished that I just need to finish off that will top the engine off nicely. :D I have finally managed to source a driver's side wing with no rust on it. It is grey but since I'm planning a paint overhaul that won't be a problem. The oil return thingumy dealey bob arrived from Shaung60 yesterday (cheers for that buddy :salute: ) and I have a power steering pump coming from CTWG60 soon. That just leaves a new rad that I will order when I get around to it. It's all good!!!     Oh yeah, one last thing I keep forgetting. My engine never had an oil pressure sender. Anyone got one kicking about?
-
Awesome, it's a date. :norty: Weather permitting my car may even be running tomorrow. We'll see.... Obviously I still need to sort this bumper bracket out but I may have thought of a way to repair the one I have.
-
Cheers matey! :D I'll have to plan a road trip to the Corrado farm when it's done. Nice long journey to run the engine in. :D
-
Well, the mot runs out 9th Feb. Psychologically more than anything else I want it back before then. How many hours have I spent on it? Couldn't even hazard a guess! Lots! Thing is I've had to learn/teach myself a hell of a lot along the way. If i was gonna do another one I'd get it done a lot quicker. I know a Corrado G60 inside out and back to front now. There's not a single nut, bolt, gasket, seal or screw that I haven't had apart on a G60 at some point. But not only that I've put it all back together again too. :D
-
Not yet mate, still need to track down a driver's side wing then I'm gonna get the whole car sprayed. So it'll all be the same colour for the first time in many years no doubt! I just can't wait to drive the damn thing. :D It'll all be worth it then, I was having to dig deep for motivation today. I really tired myself out with all the lifting and getting on my back under the car. Think most of the crappy jobs are behind me now though.
-
Don't ask about the girl's names. Love the way you decide to join in anyway! Well, the timing is as spot on as it's gonna be. I've turned it over by hand and when I did the head I squeezed out the tappets. Theoretically it should fire up first time.... But I doubt it will.
-
No, there's a certain six cylinder engine that goes into a certain VW coupe that does quite the opposite.... Right, another days graft. Today I have fitted the driveshafts properly, connected the exhaust manifold to the downpipe and the car is now on the floor again. Got work tomorrow but off again on Wednesday so I will fit the charger, alternator and oil cooler and then start assembling the pipework. Should be running very soon indeed!
-
I can't quite believe what I've just done really. All because I noticed a slight coolant leak when I changed the suspension....  Gonna spend tomorrow on it too. Now the engine is back in situ I'm gonna find a way of securing the front sub frame without the bumper attached (on one side I can use the good bracket and just put the bolts in) so the car can go down on its wheels. No real need for it to be jacked up any more once the drive shafts are bolted back on. Then I just need to connect everything up and press play! 8)

Wouldn't worry too much about it. You should have seen the amount of cr*p that came out of my block. It was like sand and mud. I had it on a stand and flushed it out with a pressure washer and it took ages to run clear. Even still I expect mine will go muddy after that length of time. Should be getting a new rad though so hopefully that will help.
-
Cheers guys. Won't be too much longer now. Hopefully only a couple of weeks. :D Next things to hunt down are some front bumper brackets. My passenger side one is fecked. The bolt was cross threaded. :(

I'm shattered. This home mechanic thing is going a bit mental. If Haynes did a G60 manual how many spanners do you reckon this little lot would be? Sleep now.
