  1. A V8 Gallardo? That's odd that they should bring one out with a smaller engine. They normally get bigger. If they're the same money think I'd still go for the Lambo. As nice as the Audi appears to be it doesn't have the X-factor of the Bull.
  2. You're a lucky man. I'm still waiting to drive something with more than 160 bhp. My (probably slightly under powered) G60 is the most powerful car I've ever driven. 8) Are they planning to make an R8 with a bigger engine?
  3. Well, what a weekend. Offered to give my (completely clueless) mate a hand with the suspension on his mk4 GTI that he bought last week. Basically all four shocks were blown to pieces. The car was on standard shocks and springs and was sitting very, very low so alarm bells were ringing as soon as I took one look at it. First of all I got the car jacked up at the front and went to remove the wheels. I find that the first wheel I look at only has four nuts when there should be five. Checked the next wheel and same story. The goit who sold it has only nabbed the locking wheel nuts! My mate at this point was just starting to simmer gently. With the wheels off I found this little number !!!!!!!!!! The spring has been cut with everything still on the car and that coil was stuck in there. Unbelievable. Anyway got on with the task at hand and fitted the new shock and spring on the passenger side. Then found that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the new shock to fit on the other side. I've been working on it all today and got nowhere. I just don't know what has happened. I'm worried that something has been damaged or bent while there's been no damping but everything that I can see looks straight. It's really annoying because I'm used to muddling through things as invariably something always goes wrong when you're working on a car but the vast majority of the time I get the job done. This is the first time in goodness knows how long where I've just had to hold my hands up and admit defeat. We're now going to get someone out to have a look. If there's one thing I hate it's people who bodge things! My mate has obviously boiled over now. I'm just finding things wrong left right and center. Too many things to list. And because of all this I've got nothing done to the valver this weekend at all.   :censored: :censored: :censored:
  4. That's a load of BS! :mad2: If there was an accident your company surely would have to get in contact with you to discuss liability before any claim is made against you. I can't believe your insurers would pay out without getting your side of the story. The fact that there is no accident makes it 100 times worse. Refuse to pay a penny and as has already been suggested take everything you have been told and what you know to the financial ombudsman. Those two words strike fear into insurance companies. I don't know what's going on mate but I hope it gets resolved soon.
  5. Yeah, I've had a mk2 and a couple of mk3s over the years. IMO the mk3 cabin is a much nicer place to be and the ABF engine is a gem I think. Can't wait to drive my 9A so I can compare the two. Don't know if you've ever seen this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/VW-Golf-Five-Ge ... 331&sr=8-1 It's pretty good and has some pictures of all mks lined up.
  6. Yeah, that's what I was expecting to find. Oh well, hopefully a new gasket will fix the problems. I really need to get this car sorted now as now my grandma is sadly no longer with us :( the house is on the market and I kinda need to get it off the front garden....
  7. Cool, thanks for that guys. Already got a VAG gasket and should be ready to go. The spark plugs were brand new ones I put in there and obviously I have been running the engine hardly at all. Only starting her up to see if anything had improved (which it did but still wasn't right). Definitely need to look into that I think. Looking back now it was obviously the head gasket but I had so many other things to rule out first with leaking fuel lines and blocked air filters and dodgey ignition leads. Plus it had only blown right round the back of the engine so it wasn't until I got right under the car that I noticed all the sh*t dribbling from it and got my mate round to test the compression. Compression test will be first on my list next time I think....
  8. Hey guys, just after a few hints. Having got the cylinder head off and had a good look around at things it appears to be in pretty healthy shape (same can't be said of the gasket). The only thing that bothers me slightly is the piston crowns and the valves and spark plugs are covered in a sooty deposit. Is that an indication of the fuel/air mixture being too rich or could it be an indication of another problem. Also with regards to fitting a new gasket should I use a sealant? There are no cracks or obvious signs of damage to the mating surfaces thank goodness, but I will get it checked by a pro for any signs of warping. If it turns out to be ok would a sealant be necessary? And one last thing, what's the best way to get everything clean? It is quite messy. Cheers, Joe :D
  9. Glad to see it coming along mate! :D Can't wait to see it finished.
  10. Nice, well we had the mother of all admin errors at my place. Basically when a person dies and they leave their house to the executors of their estate, we have to change the name of the policy to "the executors of" whoever it happens to be until probate is completed. Unfortunately somebody, either deliberately or not, put a policy into the name of "the EXECUTIONERS of" and then the name of the person who had just died. Not good! One very unhappy family! And then there was a lady whose first name was Virginia and the person who sold her the policy spelt her name (and I kid you not) V-A-G-I-N-A. Nice one! :thumbleft:
  11. Sure you may have thought of this already but best thing to do mate is use a contact number off their website or your other insurance documents so you can be sure it's definitely them you are talking to.
  12. That's messed up. I used to work in motor insurance and still work for an insurance company. Very sadly. :( That is a very strange letter. You really need to get in touch with them asap. Someone may have reported an accident involving a car with cloned plates, it may just be an admin mistake or something more sinister. The fact that it's taken three weeks for you to get the letter might mean there's been some searching for your details. Searching the MID can be a real pain. I don't know but the strangest thing I find is that it says they're going to charge you for every day you don't respond. Someone else may be able to shed light on that but I've never heard that one before.
  13. Well, here's the head gasket. :D After finally getting the cylinder head off. My arms hurt.... Not that it's especially interesting but I think it might be a little on the fecked side. What do you reckon? Also just examining the valves and pistons, they have a black sooty coating over them. Am I right in thinking the fuel mixture is a bit rich or is this another problem?
  14. Oh dear never mind. An office job would kill me or make me kill myself one or the other. So let me get this straight you got the nut off of your exhaust and thought now I can get on with the rest of my life. :D Working in insurance. :( Well I got the nut off and now I can get on with the rest of my life fixing the valver and then selling and putting the money towards doing up the G60. :D I like to pretend the insurance part doesn't exist. Office jobs are the worst.
  15. Thinking about it I think it was on ebay a little while ago with those exact pictures. Guessing it didn't sell.... Yeah, 19s are just taking it way too far. He obviously doesn't care much for how the car drives, just how it looks.
  16. There are a couple of people around here that have driven their G60s with the charger taken off. As you'd expect I don't think it's a very exciting ride....
  17. I've done a fair bit of tinkering over the years but I wouldn't call myself experienced in any way. Just work things out as I go along and plod my way through problems as they crop up. Although I've done work for other people and they paid me real money for doing it and their cars are still on the road so I can't be completely hopeless.... I think the G60 engine is a very basic one (certainly by todays standards at least) when the charger is taken off. Which is good because it makes it easy to work with. Well I hope you get on well with your course and good to have you on board.
  18. Welcome to the forum! How are you finding the course? I'm seriously considering going back to college and doing automotive engineering of something similar.
  19. Yes, apparently it's only done 100 miles in 3 years! If that's true that should be enough to put you off. Jeez, that is one ugly rear end. I've seen that car somewhere before but not sure where....
  20. Your job sounds more fulfilling than mine does. I'm still stuck in the insurance industry. :(
  21. Haven't done any mods to mine yet mate. Am actually thinking of leaving it standard for the time being at least. It's not in the greatest condition. Cosmetic things really but once the valver is fixed and sold on I'm gonna lavish loads of money and TLC on it. Gonna get it resprayed and just generally give it a huge overhaul. Get it really nice for next summer. It's definitely a keeper though. Baring any mishaps. It was my first Corrado and I just can't imagine being without it. I'm glad you weren't hurt in that accident buddy. That looks real nasty in the pics.
  22. Love that Imp. That looks like fun! :D I had a nasty smash in one of my golfs about a year and a half ago. Nothing on the scale of that last pic though . Did you walk away from it? Don't know about G-werks then. Depending on who you are pming they might be at the scorcher this weekend.
  23. That is one smart rado! :thumbleft: You defo wanna get that charger sorted though mate. If you've not got in touch with anyone yet or found any sites here's G-werks: http://www.g-werks.com/Home/1/Default.aspx How are you finding the G60? I have one as my daily and I love it to pieces. What other dubs have you had?
  24. Irwin Bolt grippers are amazing things, I can't believe some of the bolts I've taken out with them. Not cheap but in my case they paid for themselves the first time I used them. The thing with tools is as long as you buy quality and you look after them you normally only have to pay for them once. I still use some of my grandpa's socket set that he had from before I was born and it's still going strong. I know what you mean Tom. There's always those few seconds after you clout/cut/gouge yourself when you're just waiting for the pain/blood/swelling to start. Thank goodness it was only a bit of skin mate.
