  1. Tell us more! (Ya git! ;) ) BTW - the problem with mine was not just the rattly tilt adjust, there was rotational play in the universal joint in the top of the column.

    worrying

SVA only really governs emmissions and simple stuff like: does it have indicators that flash the right colour, is the speedo accurate and marked with mph .. that sort of stuff. Given that the modification would be based on a production car, it would simply be up to you to show that the modification didn't breach the SVA approval granted to the original car. Admitted, it would create a whole lot of red tape, but I suspect they're just trying to stop 17 year olds in Saxos putting all-red taillights on their cars, they're not trying to stop engine modifications (they don't care, as long as it still passes MOT emmissions test!).
  3. Well. Yes, it was the steering column. Now I have a younger, spritelier column attached to my VR, the steering feels incredible. The play has all gone, the car feels more informative, more alive, more stable in a straight line, more *classy* .. Wish I'd done this years ago. My column now has ~50k miles on it, instead of 126k, and the whole car feels so much better it's just not true. Recommendation to everyone with a high mileage car: do it - no amount of tweakage and tightening will fix what is basically a shagged column (didn't I just know it would be the stupid and pointless tilt-adjustment?!).

    Electrical madness

Same with VR6's and crank sensor intermittent faults ...! If you make the mistake of turning the ignition off, it's lost ..
  5. Note that everyone who's complained about Milltek exhausts drives a late car. The above testamonial for a G60 is for a completely different exhaust ...
  6. That is not the point of the definitive exhaust thread. The point is to present facts and allow you to make your own mind up! If you cannot make your own mind up, perhaps you should flip a coin!? ;)
  7. Early ones look stoopid in a late dash .. :-p
  8. So, you read the definitive exhausts thread and you still need to ask another question? Use the definitive exhausts thread! :-P
  9. So the implication is that the jabba sport chip was rubbish, right?
  10. http://www.gpcvwaudi.com are the best source for stuff like this.
  11. Well to be honest, it sounds like they've been pretty reasonable about this. Of course, the original cock up should never have happened, but at least they're doing the right thing by putting everything right for you. Now *that* is customer service - putting things right when they go wrong.
  12. I can see more point in removing the side strips on a car that *isn't* black, to be honest. It is a shame they start to look a bit tired and everything, but at least they're black on black. (One of the reasons why black is the best colour for a C, IMHO.. ;) )

    Car swap!

Sounds really nice... It's funny isn't it, how even based on a description that only contains 4 words, a colour, an age and a mileage, you automatically assume that it's a nice car. I did the same.. The default instinct is to assume it's a minter or something.. Weird..
  14. The point of alarm installation is that yes, the control box could be placed anywhere! But it's often behind the dash ..
  15. Now THIS was a good drive to work ... :) Yes, that's steam!
  16. I know nothing about rap music... Just saying what you're all thinking!
  17. The Corrado was always a drug dealer's car ...
  18. Yeah, 350d, and it's very very cool! But I didn't expect them to swap it. I thought they can map that pixel out in firmware? Should just interpolate it's value from the ones around. Ok it means my 8.0 Mpix camera becomes a 7.99999 Mpix camera.... Does anyone have a UK instruction book, maybe in PDF form too? I got a euro version without english instructions .. :(
  19. (Aside) - anyone know if Canon will map out a single hot pixel on a digi SLR?
  20. Sounds like that car will be destroyed, I would doubt that it would be legal to recovery any parts from it anyway!
  21. Gearbox mount is full of sticky black oil - if the near side subframe is covered in it, chances are that engine mount is kaput. Catch it quick, cos it'll soon cost you the rear head-to-heater-matrix hose, and if you're really unlucky, the exhaust downpipe too ...! (The hose is ~£50 but the exhaust downpipe is nearer £300+VAT!)
  22. Yes, VR has a throttle sensor. Most likely you have one or other engine sensor out. Might be worth giving the ECU a probe with a friendly VAG-COM setup, see what the ECU thinks the problem is..
  23. I took a tv back once because the shadow mask was screwed up in the top right corner (anything green went red up there). The guy in the shop swore blind I was talking bollocks and it took a good thirty minutes of "discussion" before he agreed it was faulty and swapped it.. He insisted I must have had a magnet by the set or something... So what I'm trying to say is - if you aren't happy, take it back. You bought it new, so it should be perfect.
  24. Holy cow! That's a big 'un! At least those crumple zones and air bags did their thing. Thank god you weren't in the Corrado for that accident, mate, seriously, that would have been bad news.
  25. Anything in the "50" ratio ranges is more expensive than you'd expect. And as for VR owners.. tyre manufactuers seem to be dropping 205/50/15 in droves!
