  1. Those prices are all in, from what I recall.
  2. S'funny I'd always assumed GPC stood for German Parts Company ...

    Mats

It's a well-known scam, buying Corrado mats at the dealers and flogging them on ebay for a small profit. There's quite a few parts that so many people assume are no longer available and wind up paying silly money for off ebay...
  4. (2 hp is within the normal variance of a rolling road and an engine anyway. "Gained" is therefore the word that deserves the response "b*ll*cks"...)
  5. I might consider the remap up at Stealth myself, but I guess I'll wait for Kev to report back first.. ;)
  6. I'm sure it's not possible to *see* the difference between a quality and a nasty oil filter. The porosity of the paper filter isn't comparable by eye... Plus, GSF have a tendency to switch suppliers and grades of products, at least VAG stick with the same manufacturer and exact same spec (mostly!).
  7. My guess is your local dealer has only consulted local stock, or "group" stock. It seems a little surprising that they'd all disappear. Maybe all Corrado owners are *n*l about their badges looking tip-top, but I doubt it...
  8. A new down-pipe is £198+VAT from VW, IIRC.
  9. Handbrake cable adjustment is at the handbrake end. It's a bit of a pain, you have to dismantle most of the plastics around the centre tunnel to get to it, but once there there's a couple of nuts to adjust the cable position against the handle mechanism.. It should be fairly obvious, it's just a pain to get to.
  10. The most common problem is a sudden lack of fuel consumption resulting in people aimlessly hanging around in petrol stations looking at the pumps, wondering when they'll actually have to USE one of them again!
  11. You'll also need to get the 4x4 installed before getting a 3.0T in there, otherwise it'll be plain insane!
  12. So.. is your .sig going to have to be overhauled (again)...? :) Is there a world record for "number of different engines fitted to car in shortest time"? ;)
  13. Now *that* is an insurance quote!!! You can't lose, I mean, no-one else is going to be able to give you a WORSE quote, surely?! :)
  14. I suppose it's possible. I'll try another tank of optimax next time and see if there's a difference! Maybe I'll give it some nasty 95 octane at some point too, and see how bad it can get...

    Hydraulic Tappets

This may seem like a stupid question, but what does a hydraulic tappet actually *look* like?? I've seen the top of them in-situ in a cylinder head, but I've never seen a good diagram or picture of what's between the point that touches the camshaft and the valve itself.. :)
  16. My '95 VR doesn't do 1-touch up on EITHER side, so ... Whether that's due to a fault or due to a design decision I don't know.
  17. Damn, bit poor if we're all seeing pinking even those with rechips. I agree mine is worse particularly after sitting in traffic, so I think it's temp related. I always use BP Ultimate these days though, so it's a nice stable 97 Octane, very little variance cos it doesn't rely on volatile octane boosters. I can't see how I can get better fuel for it! I wonder if the chip that originally shipped with the VWM VSR was any better in this respect?
  18. Yeah I've been noticing this from time to time recently too. I've been thinking about getting the rechip done.. The pinking is more of a problem in 2nd, which leads me to think it's the rapid build in air flow and the ECU failing to respond to it. In higher gears the build up takes place more gradually, and in 1st gear there's not enough time at those revs for the Schrick to really start doing it's resonance trick.. You will notice that after an incident of pinking once or twice, the car doesn't feel as powerful - at least then you'll know that the knock sensors are doing their thing...
  19. Ah but please bear in mind that 10-month no claims won't be valid as a "year" for any other insurer... Still a bit cheeky of them to ask you to pay what is effectively the excess up-front for another policy when you've already paid for the 12 months on the old policy...
  20. As usual, they didn't make their best offer first time round. Makes me mad, that. I renewed (today actually), and the original renewal quote was ~£40 less than last year (pathetic for an extra years no claims). I ring around, get a few better quotes, ring them back, and they knock another £100 off it, AND add protected no claims too! A mate of mine made a point of ringing his current insurer last to tell them he'd had a better offer. They said "tell us what it was and we'll see if we can match it". He just said "no - if your renewal quote wasn't your best offer, then you've missed your chance"... :)
  21. I've also been told that something like the goodridge braided hose set can improve pedal feel a good amount. The standard flexi lines, particularly when they get a bit old, can cause a bit a sponginess. And that's a £60 modification.. Not many are that cheap! Your brake fluid should be no longer than two years old anyway. If it's older than that, swap it now, before you wind up piling into a roundabout cos the brakes fail... Also, make sure your handbrake is pulling up right - if the handbrake has been munged about with and it's too loose (I know the rear brakes auto-adjust, but bear with me - try it) it'll make the pedal feel spongier.. And I've got a new set of disks and pads (all genuine VW) to go on the front very shortly, should see a good improvement based on that alone!! :)

    Gas mileage

I've seen 34mpg, but only when cruising at 55mph.. Climb to 75 and the mpg drops to 31/32. Get to 90mph and it's down to 28!
  23. Exactly what I was gonna say - it lived a fairly long time. ISTR the Calibra having production continued for many years above and beyond even the Cavalier model that it was based on by around 3 years simply because of demand from the UK market, so in theory VW could have continued selling the Corrado for many years to come. But VW/Karman's costs for Corrado building were SO much higher than that of Vauxhall with the Calibra that every car VW would sell would have cost them many thousands of pounds, despite the £23k asking price. As if they didn't lose enough money on the car already!

    55k service!

They might refuse to stamp the book, if you don't get them to do the service "according to manufacturers specifications". That doesn't mean you should let them do anything other than the annual inspection and oil change service at 55k though (there's no specified service at this mileage, so I have to assume it's just the annual service). Anything else they spot that may be wrong you should very much get done elsewhere!!
  25. Cam Position Sensor: Don't have a part number (though I'm sure there's a thread kicking about here with it in), but ISTR it's about £40 from the dealer. If the CPS has gone, it'll show up in VAGCOM. DEL_VR6's figures are definitely @crank - no way anyone can report 194bhp@wheels without serious mods on a VR6! :)
