  1. Dial/LED blocking by the steering wheel obviously also depends a) how tall you are, b) where you put your seat, c) where you set your steering column .. Too many variables to say for sure XYZ wheel does/doesn't block anything.

    rmn's G60

Agreed - was going to comment on the wheels myself. What are they then?
  3. Club membership primarily means club events.. But the savings make it even more attractive.. ;)
  4. I saved around £55 on my last purchase of bits from a VW dealer by waving my VW CCGB card at them... Definitely worth the £15 subs!! :)
  5. It seems consistent with other people's tests that we've seen the results for on the forum, certainly. But the main issue is it's internally consistent - if there was a particular problem you'd likely see one cylinder much higher/lower than the others - 170 compared to 190 isn't a night and day comparison, IMHO.
  6. How can it be too HIGH??? They look fine to me! The only reason you should remove all 6 plugs is to relieve the load on the starter while you're turning the engine over.
  7. So should you  Despite the international monetary fund not having enough cash to pay for the upkeep of my VR6, I'm still glad I got this and not a calibra... :-P
  8. Off. If you wanted a Calibra you should have bought one! ;)
  9. I'm keeping my eyes open...
  10. So, it's a 94k engine, that has lived with the extra boost from a supercharger for part of it's life..? I'd guess low compression due to worn components could be the primary cause. Glad you're ignoring the headline "power at crank" figure by the way.. :)
  11. Erm, wot? There's something missing I think... :)
  12. I strongly suspect that all but the most ridiculously pedantic MOT tester will pass an In-Pro rear light without quibble. As long as it reflects, it has amber indicators and working brake lights, it'll do the job! :)
  13. The basic rule is - you get what you pay for...
  14. Thats a bit harsh... I heard he managed to extract an extra 0.5 Bhp out of his old Cavalier by removing the air filter... The cavalier only got faster when bits fell off... :) Nope, I'm not a car tuner. I'm waiting to be proved wrong tho.. The only actual physics I saw about lightening flywheels proved around a 0.5 bhp improvement in first gear. In other gears the difference was even less significant... :) There may be OTHER reasons why lightened flywheels are good, but the performance gains seem to me to be often overstated.
  15. Agreed - IF the 245 at the crank figure was correct. But then you actually saw 177bhp at the wheels, so are you saying the wide wheels and worn box cost you the other 33 bhp? You'll excuse me for being sceptical, but that's a hell of a lot of energy. What about the current generation Golf R32 with 18 inch wheels as standard? Does it only put 177 bhp to the wheels too, despite it's 245bhp *factory* engine output? I'd expect not - I'd expect nearer 210bhp, like you've shown above. I understand it's not so easy to carry round a spare set of wheels just in case you have to prove something to a pedantic sod someday, don't worry.. :) It *would* be interesting to hear from someone who *has* tried this tho - with an otherwise unchanged car. Anyone? Anyone got at-the-wheel RR figures for an R32-based car then? * edit - doh, just remembered the R32 is 4x4, so we'd expect much higher transmission loss anyway...
  16. That Merc puts down a lot of torque!!
  17. Sadly no aircon, just open the windows and roof on the few days it's hot enough to worry about it! The arty shot was taken with the camera on a tripod and about 5 inches from the side of the car, I mean really close up. Of course I had to lie in the grass to do that.. People were looking at me like I was some kind of idiot..! The paint always looks good in pictures, it's not quite so impressive in person - it's got 120k miles on it, mostly motorway so the front end looks more like a pimply teenager than I'd like.. That said, it's not too bad, considering!
  18. You might release another 2 bhp in 1st gear with a heavily lightened flywheel, but you get less benefit in 5th... The benefit of a lightened flywheel seems to be more about responsiveness of the engine than actual power output. The pulleys are a better trick - underdriving the aux belt can save you 3-4 bhp from what I've read. What this does to your power steering, battery charging and water pump I don't know....!

    BO**OCKS!!!!

Sorry, that's beyond me, I'd guess your best bet is to try tracing it from the MAF itself. I've not looked! One idea - get the engine running, and start moving all the wires. If the engine stalls when you're just fiddling with the cables, chances are the MAF itself is ok.

    BO**OCKS!!!!

Sounds like you either have a wiring loom problem, or the MAF is genuinely dying! The trick is to be able to decide which it is!
  21. Reason I ask is I have heard recently that someone got one for £60 + VAT, which is less than HALF what we were expecting to hear, so it'll be interesting to hear from you.
  22. My VR6!! :) Let me introduce you guys. Meet "git" the Black VR6. It's black, it's got black leather, it's pretty much completely standard apart from a great big shiny Schrick manifold and some exterior detailing (the red rear lights, the clear side repeaters, and a black rear VW badge). Currently sitting at 120k miles with a recent timing chain job to show for it! The photos aren't completely current, and aren't great, but there you go.. The first pic, for example, was taken before the new wheels went on (more standard speedlines but NO CORROSION any more!), plus the rear VW badge is now black and shiny too.. :) The second pic is a bit more "arty"...
  23. No worries, no offence taken. :) Maybe I'll dig out a coupla pics and warm up the scanner...
  24. There's lots of this going on, it can't be the same person(s). Take the contact details to the police, that's all you can do, but I doubt the email addresses will be traceable (no doubt they are @hotmail freebie addresses), and I'm sure the mobiles will be pay as you go unregistered too...
