  1. Well from what you say the work isn't that tricky do deal with, sounds like the sunroof might just need a replacement motor too. I'd say go on your instincts when you see the car. :) Drive it very critically - listen for clunks round corners, pulling in funny ways, steering drift, feel the weight of the steering - it should stay meaty and consistent, if it doesn't then you're looking at a rack.. At the end of the day, as long as it's not got a bent chassis or rusted bodywork, the rest can be repaired, but it could cost you a small fortune so be hyper-critical..! The fog lights aren't too much (well they are overpriced, but they're not so bad that it'll stop you eating for the next three months, unlike many of the other parts on the car!!).

    MOT

The MOT people won't have a problem with that, but you might have trouble with your insurance if you have an accident or the car is stolen in the meantime - the car isn't roadworthy without a valid MOT cert, and therefore your insurance won't cover it's use on the road... It's your call, but it's not a legal...
  3. Looks like it might need a fog light too.. RHS looks like it might be cracked. And when he says "fan" does he mean interior fan or the engine cooling fan?
  4. The leak-down test tells you whether the cylinder can *hold* pressure. If it's being maintained by the oil on the rings, it typically won't hold that pressure for any length of time, though it may show a high pressure over the very short term. Note that since the air leak (probably) can't go through the (closed) valves, chances are any loss of pressure over time is down to the bores or head gasket... Or at least that's how I've always understood it. I have no idea about the technicalities of doing the test or setting up for it...
  5. Doesn't that feel weird, cranking a car with your foot hard down on the throttle but no spark? In carburettor days (yes I'm that old) that was a bad idea! :) But yes, it sounds like you could do with a leak-down test doing.
  6. For the VR6: Pagid FR from GSF are £29 + VAT, VAG from VAG: £37.86 + VAT, VAG partsclub: £24.38 + VAT... But anyway, back on-topic... There's no chance on earth that VW Ridgeway Reading is going to see my car, even though they're only 5 minutes walk from my house....
  7. Does anyone in the Reading/Berkshire area wanna try getting me a pair of VR front disks from the stealers at parts club prices? Gotta be worth a pint..! :) VAG pad set from VW are £37.86 + VAT for the VR6, so can you get the VAG parts from GSF then?
  8. Nope, fuel regulator just maintains the pressure in the fuel line, the injectors release a known *quantity* of fuel when asked, don't think you can trick 'em by increasing the pressure in the line. To recap - you can't adjust the fuelling on a VR unless you do an ECU remap. You don't *need* to adjust the fuelling on a VR under normal circumastances - what makes you think you do?
  9. AMD sell 'em with fitting for £1500 + VAT, IIRC. That will include all necessary work to make it fit (yes cutting away part of the bonnet). Stealth can probably supply them still, too, but you wouldn't get the group buy discount, I'm sure. If you want a 2nd hand one, they do come up for sale occasionally, but it's rare... ** correction that's £1699 + VAT with a rechip thrown in (the rechip is £350+VAT)... http://www.auto-amd.com/corrado.asp

    ABS VAGCOM codes

You could always go to the dealer and buy a blanking plate for the dash.. pop out the ABS light module, pop in the blanking plate.. bingo, no more MOT failures due to poxy ABS problems.. ;) The light is SUPPOSED to be really bright to remind you that your wheels will lock up if you stamp on the brakes! :)

    ABS VAGCOM codes

Try to ignore the light, believe me, once it's been on for a few weeks you won't notice whether it's on or off... Anyway, if you clear the error, it'll just come back...
  12. And interestingly he's stuck with the VSR by the look of it. I did PM him, but haven't heard back, I guess he's busy/away/not as bored as we are...
  13. The "extra grunt" is open to debate too, I doubt anyone has VSR vs VGI power plots from the same engine to show us. There's no doubt that the VGI is probably slightly better, but how much is completely unknown.
  14. You know what I mean. "Corrosion" then. :-P
  15. FOUR slow punctures? Sounds more like rusty rims to me! My old speedlines lost air due to that, couldn't seal the tyres properly. The new ones are lovely.. Haven't even *checked* tyre pressures for weeks and I know they'll be exactly how they were last time I looked. :) Oil temp 118 doesn't sound too bad, if you're driving and not just idleing. As for a p/x...? No chance geeza! ;)
  16. Personally I think that's a bit low, but I have no actual evidence so it's just my opinion. I would have estimated more like 15-20% written off by now.
  17. From the VW UK FAQ: How do I contact the Recall Campaign Help-desk? The telephone number for the help desk is 01908 601243. Note the fan recall above (which my chassis number falls into) only applies to cars that had air-con prep done to them, or were fitted with air-con. Presumably at the factory.
  18. That sounds too weird to be rear disks/sensor problems. I'd go with the rain-ingress-into-the-electronics theory myself! Worrying!

    ABS Light Question

A keen-eyed MOT tester should be checking to make sure that your ABS light comes on briefly, then goes off again as expected. If it doesn't come on at all, or stays on, it's an automatic fail...
  20. This whole thread is rambling miles away from the entry point, and the person with the original question has yet to respond....
  21. He did, didn't he? He said "G60" and "fuel economy" in the same sentence!!! ;) (Speaks the VR6 owner.... :) )
  22. click here For the main Corrado search results page with better formatting.. ;) *mod edit - shortened your link - Henny*
  23. This information has now been moved to the Wiki - please make any amendments there. ================ For all those that haven't found it, here's the list of all known recalls affecting the Corrado in the UK.
