What's the best launch event of the last few years that people can remember/attended? I'm doing a bit of research for a project and am looking for those launch events which stood out in peoples' minds, the ones that were a bit different from the norm or had a particularly creative aspect. PS they don't necessarily need to be for an exciting/brand new model!

Cheers mate. The whole ceiling basically moves on hydraulics so yeah they adjust the lighting slightly for every shot

Just bought Golf+ today and opened up the mag to find a small write up of the car and some of the above pics. Well chuffed to say the least, especially considering they never said anything about it getting in the mag when I first sent the pics through. Nice one Golf+! :D

Lovely cars imo, could be sorely tempted with this Wortec one if I had the money:

Mmm its still for sale. Wonder how big the boot is and I can get a towbar on it? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1968027.htm or this maybe instead of the Golf http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1910854.htm Haha I've been looking at the same 2, great minds and all that! Almost contacted the guy with the red one because he wants to px for a 'Corrado Storm' and I saw his motor down at Retro Show, looked pretty good. Wants top money though and it's got a cloth interior and is an estate. Like you I'd prefer a silver one and a coupe if possible, so had also been looking at the other one in your link. Interstellar mileage though!
-
Overlooked, not half! Ben had all sorts of trouble trying to insure the damn thing, because the girl on the phones didn't know what one was and couldn't find it on the system! 'Is that the S3?' 'No, it's an S2.' 'You sure it's not an S3?' 'Uh, yeah!' :brickwall: Mind you not as bad as an industry professional - VAG specialist - who thought it was an S-line A2!!! :epicfail: Haha quality, I had pretty much the same conversation with someone the other day: 'So you're getting an S3' 'No an S2' 'Like an S4?' 'No, an older one with the original quattro engine' 'Oh you want one of those 80s ones' :epicfail:
-
Hey! Hubby has an S2, but in volcanic black, or volcano black or something... Yeah they're a bit of an overlooked classic, a lot of people don't even know Audi made S2s, all they've heard of is the RS2. They were like a proto-Impreza/Evo in my mind, 2.2l Turbo, 4wd etc. I'm not sure who owns that silver one in my pic (it was at GTI Spring Fest Santa Pod when I took that photo) but I know I've seen it in a photo in one of the mags parked outside DG Autotech. Great looking motor...

They take about 20 shots of the car from exactly the same angle but with different lighting for each shot, then shop the best lit elements together. They don't airbrush anything out though so it's still a 'genuine' photo in those terms, so any imperfections can still show up. I did detail the car for 8/9 hours the day before too so that makes some difference

http://www.flowimages.com/, Im guessing mate  Thanks for the comments all. Yep that's the guys, can't recommend them enough if people fancy getting some shots done of their own car. They really looked after us and were very enthusiastic about the rado despite the fact that they shoot so many exotic cars (they had a C Type Jag in last week worth a couple of million!)

I was lucky enough to be bought a studio session for my birthday earlier in the year, went down there on Monday and, well, I'll let the photos do the talking!

Am I right in thinking that dubmeister are now the only people selling new ZW1s in the UK? Because according to their site a set of 4 17x8 ZW1s is now £2744!! :gag:
-
Ah apologies
-
Anyone got a link to a place that sells engine/cam covers like the one below? Was gonna post this in the 'VR6 engine bay tidy up' thread but then it got locked
-
Ha, rubbing is enough of an issue as it is! Tbh you can't really do any more than 8" without arch mods at that height...
-
Current drop, okay for motorway driving but rubs like a :censored: on B roads
-
ZW1s are 8" wide, you can run them without arch modifications and imo they look pretty 'stanced' on mine:
-
I know it's not a rado but does anyone know the model of these rims? Had a quick look and pretty sure they're ACT wheels (that's what seemed to be stamped on them) but not sure which ones...
-
shiny pic from GTI International last weekend:

Was good to meet you as well, I still can't get over your wheels and all the work you have put into them!! You have inspired me, so last night i went and bought all my sand papers to start polishing things to your standard :D Haha thanks. Good luck with it though, as I said to you, you'll only ever want to do it once in your life!! :D
-
Hi Vicky, good to meet you on Saturday and well done on 1st prize. Did you win on Sunday too? Your car looked mint and it was nice to at least have one other rado in the show n shine!

KW has built up a massive fanbase within VW circles but personally I would never have them again. I run KW V1s and to be honest I wish I'd gone for V2s or V3s for further adjustability or had gone for another make altogether. The roads around me aren't great and imo the KWs aren't set up well from the factory - they seem to have decided that hard springs with soft rebound rates would give the best of both worlds but in reality what you get on bumpy roads is a still relatively hard ride with lots of bounce. Couple this with the fact that my units have been sent back TWICE due to leaking dampers (and in both cases they had to be flown to Germany for 'testing' before I was refunded under warranty - a turn around of about 6 weeks with me having to put a deposit down on new dampers in the meantime) and in my experience KW isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be. At the very least I'd probably go for a UK company if possible to avoid these kinds of warranty issues. Anyway, that's just my opinion and as I said there seem to be endless KW fanboys but whatever make you go for I would suggest you go for fully bump/rebound adjustable coilovers as your personal take on what is a comfortable or a hard ride is doubtless different to an engineer in Germany who drives on smooth roads everyday...

thanks Jack, they arent new and didnt come with the standard adaptors. I did just buy some rh spacer, unfortunately now after reading your info I think i may have the wrong spec. have ordered 20mm and 30mm spacer making et 40 and et 30. will just suck it and see when they turn up. My arches are rolled so may help. plus im still on 16v rear cross member which is narrower than the vr6 version so may have some slight differences to you. Must say your wheels look great against the blue. I have decided after stripping the paint off one ready for polishing to go colour coded with maybe some gold plated bolts. keeping the polished rims obv what tyre width are you using? I wouldn't worry too much, just have to see when you get the spacers as you say. With rolled arches et30 should be ok and even et40 might work, but that all depends on the coilovers you're using. As Coullstar recommended though, I'd probably just put a 5mm spacer on there. My tyres are 205/40s, but I'd be interested to see if 215/35s would result in you having more/less tyre rub

Did your ZW1s come with the factory spacers? If so you should end up with et35. All ZW1s come from the factory as et60, RH just send the right adapter for the car, so if the previous owner specced them for a rado they'll be spacers which give et-25. So you end up with et35 once the adapetrs are on (et60 - 25) if that makes sense. Any more positive et than 35 and you'll start having issues with the car fouling suspension components, any more negative and the wheels will stick out of the arches quite a bit (I run et35 and the wheel face sticks out a few mm more than the arch but the car is ok legality-wise as the tyre is stretched and therefore the tread sits behind the arch line. Standard width is 8" and at this width regarding ride height you can run them pretty much fine on the back even slammed but the fronts will rub if your arches are standard and you go low. Be sensible and they'll be fine, run them like I did at Stonor and GTI Fest (see pic) and they'll rub over all bumps and even when you corner...! Hope that helps

Cheers mate, same to you, was good to finally put a face to the name... and to finally see your motor in the flesh after having pored over pictures of it for so long!
