Have you tried looking at the simple things on a 2.0 16v if the car is slightly off song? I'd take off the distributor cap and take a look at the state of the contacts and the rotor arm. Chances are that this has never been changed and that it will be in a bit of a sorry state. When was the last time that the car was serviced? An oil/filter/plugs/air filter change will definately make a difference as will a tank or two of optimax. neil 94 Flash Red 16v

My 16v had a similar handling change recently 'light' on long sweeping bends. Turned out to be play in the rear wheel bearings (they weren't noisy). Changed both of them and it cured the light handling. Worth checking as a fairly easy fix neil 94 Flash Red 16v

I think that it does cover trim, bodywork etc. (my copy does). I would say that £55 is a fair price for a set of all 3 workshop manuals, bodywork/trim, gearbox and electrical diagrams but not for just one of them. Mind you given the rarity of them then it depends how much the buyer is willing to pay. neil 94 Flash Red 16v

Start with the distributor cap, my 16v showed a similar problem in the winter. I also changed the battery for a bosch silver (cheap from German and Swedish) and the HT leads as it was still on the originals. neil Flash Red 16v (may have seen you on 1198?)

195/50 R15 make sure you get the GSD3's and not the older GSD2's. The newer tyres have a stiffer sidewall. neil 94 Flash Red 16v

Make sure you get the tensioner changed at the same time as the belt. Plenty of people have had the tensioner seize despite changing the belt. neil Flash Red 16v

Depends how you're driving it and what sort of journeys you're talking about. Mine does 30ish mpg pottering around and 35-36 on a run. Driving hard on a run takes it down to 30-32mpg. Short journeys are around 25mpg on the mfa. It has recently got cooler so the warmup cycle is taking longer and my fuel consumption has dropped by ~3mpg on short journeys. I never really fill the tank, only put £30 in when needed but a 15 gallon tankful would give you a range of around 400 miles at 30mpg without running it down to the fumes. What mpg do you get on a longish run? neil 94 Flash Red 16v

The 2.0 16v doesn't have the surge at the top end like the 1.8 16v as you can feel the cat holding it back a bit above 6k rpm so it doesn't feel as quick. In the real world there is nothing between the two cars. I run my 2.0 16v on optimax and it makes a big difference on responsiveness. My engine is standard but has been set up by a specialist so it's running well. Both engines don't really loosen up until they've got about 70k miles on them. Put 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's on a 2.0 16v and it goes round corners like you wouldn't believe :D That's what the car is really about. neil 94 Flash Red 16v

There was an optional extra of extra dials for oil pressure and voltage in the cubbyhole for the late spec interior, unfortunately these have been discontinued and are pretty difficult to get hold of these days. The unit fitted in the cubbyhole and the dials matched those on the dashboard in design, the hole at the back is for cable routing for these dials. neil 94 Flash Red 16v no extra dials :(
