Hi all, It's been 10 years since my last VR6. I've just been offered a decent looking 1995 2.0 16V, it's just a bit underwhelming in the performance stakes. So I need to decide whether to wait for a VR6 or get the 16V and insert a more interesting lump. I've tinkered on cars in the past, but never done an engine swap. With an empty double garage I'm tempted to give it a go. Can anyone guide me on the following: * What engine would people recommend for a straight forward swap to give me around 200 bhp. * Do any of the differences between VR6 and valver (bonnet, subframe etc) affect engine swap? * What jobs are beyond enthusiastic DIY? * Roughly, what am I looking at time and cost? (Accepting how long is a piece of string) In advance, thanks for your thoughts. Regards, James

Anyone fed up of inflated eBay prices? Some of you may be familiar with the ‘Das große VW-Corrado-Buch’? I personally think one of the best books produced covering the Corrado (the pictures in the book make up for the text being in German). It was published in 1992 and sold out years ago. They have been selling on eBay for around £100 – if you can find one, which frankly is ridiculous. Anyhow, I thought you loyal fans of the best car in the world would like to know it is being reprinted (I think). It is currently available on pre-order from Amazon.de for the reasonable sum of 29.95 Euro + about 6 Euro shipping to UK. Bargain. http://www.amazon.de/Das-gro%C3%9Fe-VW-Corrado-Buch-Heinz-Horrmann/dp/3958431429/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1435494092&sr=1-1&keywords=das+grosse+buch+corrado I assume it is the same as the original book with a new dust jacket. I am hoping it might have additional material in it (it was printed in 1992, so limited stuff on VR6) – but I don’t know any further details. Either way, for 30ish Euro I’ve taken a chance and placed my order (estimated delivery date 6/7 August) before it hits eBay at an inflated price. I’m going to take this opportunity to thank forum members that keep me entertained with build threads etc. I used to have two VR6s back in 2007ish and hope to buy another Corrado project in the near future now that I’m nearly through 'having children and buying a house – no spare money' stage. Hope this helps? Regards, James (forum lurker in the Andover area) P.S. Apologies if I've submitted this post in the wrong forum topic or it's already been covered.

Just having a look at the forum for old times sake. Not sure if you still have my old Corrado? If you do, the missing knob on the driver's seat you asked about is not a lumbar support, I think it is where a rather annoying arm rest used to be. I took it off as it just got in the way. It went with the car with all the other spare parts to the bloke I sold it to. Hope that helps solve the mystery?

R36 - When a Corrado is not quite big enough for the family!!
vr6monkey replied to vr6monkey's topic in Members Gallery
Hi Wendy - you are not missing anything! When I was a teenager I dreamt about owning a Corrado, it was the car that I wanted more than any other. I think it is fair to say, not many people have dreamt about owning a Passat? HOWEVER - if you are going to own an estate car, it might as well be a little bonkers? I take your point regarding Audi, yes very nice however you pay a big premium for a bit of badge snobbery. Similar Audi (S4s) were at least another £10k - £15k to buy and they were not £10k - £15k nicer to drive. The other thing I would add is Audi S4s are fairly common? How many R36s have you seen? Yes, there is a reason for that, they were too expensive when new (sound familiar - Corrado when new?). I would add that I used to love people coming across to talk about my old Corrado. I have already had several neighbours come across to find out what an R36 is :-) It think it is fair to say that most forum members are car proud (even if they currently own a fat (not necessarily phat) estate like me)? Out of interest - has anyone in the UK shoe-horned an R36 lump into a Corrado yet? I would imagine it would be an awesome car, especially if you added the 4-Mo and got rid of the DSG. My wife would shoot me... Thanks for all the positive comments. I still love the Corrado and get a buzz seeing them out on the roads. Maybe one day when the kids are grown up? Finally, several comments about the seats - yes they are v. comfortable and they electronically adjust in 14 different directions :-) I would recommend trying to find a set and fitting them in your Corrado? Spoilers up. -
Having owned 2 Corrado VR6s and loved every moment, I have been looking to buy another. Difficulty is the Corrado does not have enough doors for the family. 2 kids and a dog later and I give up on the dream of another Corrado. My thoughts - if you are going to have a family-friendly car, you might as well get one that is fun to drive. Introducing the R36, 3.6L 24V 300bhp, 4-motion and only 10000miles on the clock!! Not to everyone's taste, I know. However, for such a big car it is pretty damm quick and I'm expecting the dog to be doing some serious nose art on the boot windows. Just need to decide what to do to the car, I think 19" wheels are going to be a start. Maybe adding a spoiler that raises at 140mph? Ideas anyone?

I'm sure you are aware of this, however just be careful you don't get hit with UK import tax. I have bought stuff in the US before at a reasonable price then customs add their bit, making things quite expensive. If you can, you're better finding stuff in the EU - no import tax. Hope this helps. P.S. Out of 25+ models in my collection, the Revell 1:18s are still my favourite :-)

Yeah sorry about that, but having sold only a couple of items I started getting withdrawal symptoms :-) Selling my last Corrado VR6 was heart breaking as it was my pride and joy, but I needed the money for a house deposit. Despite currently needing the money to buy a new motor, I don't want to make the same mistake with my collection of Corrado stuff (it would be impossible to replace!!). Whilst I don't have a C at the moment, there is a very good chance I'll end up with another one at some point Finally, I'll also look at starting a threat about models and merchandise (if there is not one already out there??)
-
Having started listing my Corrado collection, I have come to realize that I am actually quite addicted to all things Corrado and despite needing the money - selling the collection is a mistake, which I know I'll regret. What I will do though is look at OSV's suggestion. It may take a while, but I'll see if I can share stuff with the Forum. I may not own a C at the moment, but there is a reasonable chance I will again some day :-)

OSV, that was my original idea - to start a Corrado library. I collected articles, press stuff and models from literally around the world. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time and now need the money for my latest project.

No longer for sale. Thanks for interest.

Corrado models, brochures, manuals and more on Ebay
vr6monkey replied to vr6monkey's topic in Ebay and Misc
I have had two VR6s and they were great, but I've decided to raise some money for something 400+ bhp and rear wheel drive. I have loads of Corrado stuff to list on Ebay, including some pretty rare stuff (models, magazines, press stuff etc etc). I am hoping that it will all go to a good home as it took me years to collect it all. Anyhow, please keep checking my Ebay over the next couple of weeks. -
I've just started listing on Ebay my rather large collection of car stuff, which includes loads of Corrado related memorabilia. There are loads of models, brochures, press photos, books, manuals etc etc. If anyone is interested, please click on link below: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/jgs448/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 Or look for Ebay seller: jgs448 To hopefully comply with forum rules, all sales / negotiations are to be via Ebay. Thanks.

Nice one, thanks. I'll start looking into it.

The Scotts Mototune / Nothelle car that features in the VW Audi mag 1993 is currently for sale in Dublin for approx £4500. A really quite special car (215bhp) with under 50k miles on the clock and looks in good condition. Only down side is that it is an automatic!!

It's been a while since I played around with a dodgy sunroof, however I had a similar problem and discovered that it was a cracked cog in the motor that was the problem. It might be worth having a quick look inside the motor to see if that is what the problem is? I tried to repair the cog, but it kept breaking. I ended up taking a quick trip to the breakers yard in the end. Hope this helps.

I've spotted a low mileage VR6, but it's an auto box. Can anyone tell me what exactly I'll need to change an auto-vr6 to a manual box? What sort of money am I looking at? Thanks.

All, back in 2007 I sold my beloved VR6 (M265 MHV) to some fella from the Luton area. It was Classic Green, with Black Recaro Leather and BBS RXII wheels. I was wondering if anyone knows where the car is nowadays and what happened to it? Now that I have got the wedding, house purchase and baby sorted, buying another Corrado is back at the top of the list !!! So if anyone has a clean and unmodified VR6 for sale, try me.

Can anyone advise me on their experiences with the best tyre pressure for a set of Pirelli P-Zero Nero tyres 205 45 16 on a VR6 running 16"x7" rims for day to day driving? :D
-
Mine tilted ok, and opened fine, but every time you went to shut it, it would close a small amount then click and stop as the cog got stuck. I suspect you'll find the switch and motor are fine, and it is the rubbish plastic cog as described in my previous post? But you never know? Good luck anyway.
-
I had the same problem when I bought my new VR six months ago. If you take the sunroof motor out, and open up the metal plate of the motor part, you might find the angled cog (not sure of the technical term) running off the motor shaft has a crack in it which is the clicking noise some of you can here (I guess) :( . This allows it to open in one direction, but causes dramas when trying to spin the other way. I tried everything, from superglue to trying a clever little metal staple, but no joy. Once that cog is broken, it is knackered!!!! I have not found a repair kit, VW don't sell the individual cog and I don't think the part is repairable (long term anyway). Why they designed it with a plastic part I have no idea! However the good news is that if you look around long enough you can find a brand new motor on EBay for about £10 to £15 + p&p, or a scrap yard can provide you with an instant solution for about £40 to £50. Hope this helps? Regards James. :D

When I got my VR two months ago it used to regularly shoot upto 110, especially in traffic. This was particularly strange in that it would be fine for a while, then whack, straight up to 110, and the stage 2 would be going mental. :( Kind of embarassing at traffic lights as people used to stare at the car (for the wrong reasons!!) Any way, i changed the thermostat, problem solved. It now sits at 80 to 85 on long runs (helped by a fully vented front grill) and goes no higher than 95 when in traffic. In fact i hardly notice the fan at all now. The bonus is the engine is obviously running a lot cooler now. Not sure if this is the answer to your problem? but hope it helps. P.S. When i changed the thermostat I noticed the thermostat housing was knackered, being cracked on the inside lip of the plastic where the O ring sits!!! Could have been a real pain in the arse!!! So it is a good opportunity to check that as well. P.S.S. It's a pretty easy job, but if you're not too sure about how to do it, I'm think someone posted a link on how to change the thermostat.

Well I've listened to a Magnex cat-back on a standard car, and it sounded lovely, not too loud, just right. I also had a listen to a Milltek system (including de-cat pipe) on a supercharged VR6, sounded nice but probably a little too loud and burbly for my liking. Hard to say how much of that noise was the supercharger?? People seem to have various opinions on the Milltek, some thinking its quiet and others loud??? Then there is the quality and fitting issues that some people have mentioned??? Still waiting to hear an actual supersprint system, all I know is that they have the reputation for quality. Interesting that you find it loud. :? Another option i suppose is to look at another OEM exhaust???? Not sure how much they cost (I'm sure they are not cheap)??? The plus point is they definitely keep the noise down and they seem to LAST forever despite being mild steel. I think mine is still the original exhaust, 12 years on!!!?!?!?!? Down side I suppose is how restrictive are those massive silencers? Has anyone bought one recently? As for suspension, i'll just re-iterate what i said before, the KW setup seemed great. On advice from various people, I'll probably be going for the non-adjustable. Reasons being, i have faith that KW have a lot more experience than me at setting the dampening at the optimal setting. (remembering i no plans to thrash it around any tracks). As for the FK's, there have now been enough people posting negative comments about them to put me off.

For those I met at the Stoner VW rally, thanks for the friendly welcome and all the advice. Have been for a ride in Goldie's VR6 (+schrick!!!! lovely), set up with KW coilovers. I was very pleasantly suprised, not a harse ride at all, and he is running it lower than I am likely to. All I can say is that coilovers are becoming more and more likely. As for my motor at the moment a couple of photos for now, but hopefully by mid august it should be looking tip-top (i hope?!?!) 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfIMG_0903.jpg[/attachment:7283d] IMG_0909.jpg[/attachment:7283d]

Thanks for the advice so far Does seem to be running rich when warm, oil temp is about 104 on a long run (coolant about 80-85 on long run, 95 in traffic), I get about 27 mpg when putting my foot down, but managed 38.5 mpg (at 65 mph) on the way back from Stoner, so not bad there. Think I'll be trying the fuel pressure regulator. If not I'll looking at the fuel injectors.

All My beloved VR6 starts first time every time when cold, BUT it usually takes two or more attempts once the engine is warm, i.e. been on a longish run then stopped for a while??? Any ideas, and anything I can do about it? :? Cheers, James
