  1. the place is called gordon hazelwood I've bought tyres from him and I know some people who have bought wheels/ tyres at good prices. At £100 it could be worth trying out.
  2. My exhaust is starting to blow where the pipe meets the back box :( I've got it stuffed with some filler any idea when the group buy is going ahead maybe you could pm those interested to see if they are still interested
  3. found another tyre fitting joint in hillington industrial estate reckon they could do 4 wheels for £100 you have to take the wheels round to them, sounds too cheap for my liking. I haven't found anybody that has used or heard any reports of the standard of the finish from the place in Neilston Road in Paisley. Someone will just have to take the chance and find out.
  4. I'm on the look out for a wheel refurb as well possible a polished finish there is a car wash/tyre joint on Neilston road in paisley opposite the safeway garage I think it was about £40.00 a wheel for a shotblast and "new look" finish he showed me some landrover wheels that were "just back" they looked pretty good, he could garage your car when it was getting done or lone you a set of wheels he reckoned a 4-5 day turn around. Maybe he would cut us a deal if we went along together just to prove us Scots are tight arsed b astards when it comes to parting with some cash :D
  5. I need to replace my rear brake discs after just doing the front ( why can't the MOT tester bend the rules just this once :x , its only the brakes after all) I put on ate power discs on the front they have this groovy thing going on all over them. Anyway down to the point I have been searching this site and some VW magazines looking for discs for the rear the only ones that i can find are solid discs. I Know that most of the braking pressure is sent to the front brakes and the rear are not required to be of the same standard. I was looking to get some discs that would match the front (grooved) or even drilled. Any leads on suppliers who do mail order or suppliers in central Scotland would be helpful. :!:
  6. got the brake pipes replaced along with goodridge bradied hoses the braking is good but the rear discs are needing replaced along with the pads this could be the next job on the list along with the exhaust, suspension, paint job, refurbished wheels, I don't want to think about any more my pockets aren't deep enough.
  7. my car was in at the local vag dealers due to starting problems when it was in i got them to quote me for replacing the brake pipes and the two rear flexy hoses, they rekoned that it would cost £286.00 due to the amount of time involved in changing the pipes robbing bas  tards
  8. finally got my c back on the road had to resort to the local vag stealer. first the reckoned it was the immoboliser sending unit which they were going to charge me £83.00 for. The sent away for a new one. It didn't cure the problem, after replacing the original and with the help of the top technician it turned out to be the wiring loom was rubbing against the inner wing at the off side and had shorted out the cabling. they still managed to charged me £100 notes for the privilage( top technitian was called Dick Turpin by the way) anyway problem solved
  9. I 've just had the same thing happen to me i drove through a puddle of water a bit deeper than what i thought it would be, there was a puff of steam from under the bonnet, the car started a further twice the third time it cut out immediately. I've noticed that the abs light is not lighting on starting ( the engine is only turning over for a matter of seconds, possibly not long enough for the abs sensors to work). Has anyone had this problem and sorted it. I've got the car in my garage with a heater blowing into the engine bay to try and dry it off a bit as it hasn't started again yet.
  10. cheers for that, i will give them a call check out the prices
  11. are these the same hoses that joeM is talking about and are they straight replacements or is there any changes to be made on fitting them
  12. any help would be appreciated are all the brake lines the same size in diamater or would i have to get a specific size
  13. Just had the dreaded MOT done on the car, it passed (that's all I want to say on that subject), but there are a few items that require attention. firstly and in my opinion the most urgent The brake pipes both front and back are needing replaced due to severe corrosion. Is there anywhere out there that supplies the pipes in a ready made kit so that they can just be swapped over. Apart from the VAG dealers, I can get it done at bearsden autos but they would make them from scratch from a coil of piping. This sounds like hard work and a lot of hours of labour. I would like to compare prices with ready made piping that i can fit myself. us scots are tight as f uck you know :x
  14. christmas day in the rural village of beith ayrshire, McMillan crescent. Iam guessing that it was danger mouse but i could be wrong, especially the way the gears were getting crunched
  15. Computer problems couldn't get connected to the net  The £290 sounds worth waiting for if nobody is that desperate to get the magnex( existing one falling off, failed MOT ) I'm a definite  but I can wait to the new year if that is the feeling of the rest of the potential buyers
  16. my appologies to ess_three if it was his design on the modified air box, but it was Roddy who informed me of the changes and was kind enough to give me a lone of his airbox on Sunday to try for my own opinion on how it changed the performance of the car, anyway is that not what this forum all about passing on information on how to improve the the looks and the performance of the C!
  17. Cheers for the pictures Simon good shots, did you see the way Rodders had modified the air box, I've got mine about 90% complete but using it anyway there is a definite improvement the cars wants to pull much better at the lower rev range if you didn't manage to see what he done I could sort you out some pictures at the weekend deffinatley worth the time you would also be better getting the K&N filter panel, let me know if you need the pictures
  18. I have to fully recomend the magnex I bought one for a XR2i in 1997 its still going strong, Its definatley the system that i would use on my C. if we are going for a group buy would it include delivery on the price that you will quote? Its the 2.9 VR6 that i will require
  19. Enjoyed the day lets hope there is some more of the same soon, The results give me a starting point so i can see how much difference any future modifications will make to the output norm power 193.5 to din 70020 wheel output 146.5 torque 178 lbf-ft at 83mph or 4400 rpm
  20. have to agree with simon on the convoy was awesome, there was some strange looks as other drivers passed us on the way up. Thanks to biggrim for the race on the way up to help loosen up the car (passed him at 145mph ) just shows the vr6 has that bit extra when it comes to straight line speed. I was particulary happy with the result of my RR 193bhp and 145bhp at the wheels not bad for totally standard. Thanks to rodders for arranging the day and for the lone of his air box to try out , I'll attempt the modification on the air box asap. Look forward to seeing the photo's and any video footage. clark
  21. That will take up some serious cleaning time as it is lying about in the back of my garage somewhere, I'll just have to stay of the drink on friday and make an early start on Sat mornin'
  22. Cheers for the offer I will take you up on that It would be good to see how you modified the box, I don't really want to start destroying mine if it doesn't make that rip roaring growl under acceleration
  23. Got the disks and pads replaced today the disks look the dog's bollocks considering the price they are, I can certainly feel the difference in braking (that wouldn't be hard as my disks were fu**ed and the pads were just about down to the metal), I noted in the thread that you modified your air box and are using a K&N filter panel, I was using the K&N filter panel in the standard air box wasn't very impressed, I changed it to a cone filter just for comparison I don't know about performance wise but it certainly sounds immence under acceleration  .I was thinking of modifing the air box and running some ducting to the underside of the front bumper. Before i start to destroy the air box, does the modified air box amplify the V6 rumble under acceleration?
  24. cheers for the info that is about the same price as i've been quoted for oe disks, so i think i will go for the ate disks, I'll need to get them done before the rolling road day
  25. I hope we don't meet up very soon as my storm would look pitiful next to yours, anyway my MOT is due end of november I've had it checked over when i was getting new tyres, the front disks and pads are needing replaced, I was looking for some info on the disks that you put on your C,Where you got them and how much ?, I've been quoted for OE but I fancy something a bit different. Was it a local company that refurbished your alloys? how much did they charge?
