  1. Guys, I've just spoken to a supplier of Focal speakers, he can do the Focal 130 V2 speakers (replace 130V - now out of stock/production) for £165 and that includes shipping depending on the number, we need 6 but I guess if we can get more we may get more of a discount. They normally have them up for £200 which is cheap compared to other sites that have them up for £245. Here are some specs: [web]http://www.focal-jmlab.fr/gb/car/polyglass/130v2.htm[/web] They fit in the front door door pockets and include tweeters and crossover. These speakers are amazing, and have to be heard to be believed. You won't be dissapointed. Cheers Amit
  2. Since when did we start giving a sh!t about a stealer Seriously, the stealer is at loss of £4000. LEts hope he can recover it some how. My mate would not have standed a chance at all.
  3. Result guys. The police called my mate today and the cars turned up at a dealer!! The Romanian sold it to this dealer for £4000 and obviously wouldn't have come up with anything on any checks as the car was reported a few days after. A major sigh of relief when I heard I can tell you. I'll let you know when I hear more. Thansk for the interest again.
  4. Hey, No, this wasn't the Storm. This was another mate with a Passat. The colour is Silver and its Sport spec. The reg is something like W*** URD Thanks
  5. Guys, this is both a warning and after some advice. Unfortunatly this is what happened to my mate who's very smart but not too clued with cars. I wish he consulted me but all it takes is a small error in judgement, we've all been there. The story, its long but pls read... He sold his VW Passat 1.9TD PDi115 on Wednesday only to realise he had been ripped off. An eastern european guy, Romanian he said (I'm not being racist but I think a description may help) came to look at the car last week and was very interested. He agreed to buy the car for £7600 and took my mates bank details to transfer the money across. My mate told me how he never asked about the history of the car which began to ring bells in my head. I told him to be careful. So my mate checks his account online daily to see if the money has come across and doesn't for a few days. The guy also calls up my mate every day too to ask if its gone across and blames it on the bank. It takes about a week and my mate says he's got till tomorrow else he's selling the car to someone else (he didn't even leave a deposit which annoyed me and I gave my mate a bollocking) The money then appears when he checks it online the following day, Wednesday just gone. On the statement it said £7600 CR and the date. No mention of the other guys account or anything. But my mate's never done a bank transfer with another bank and took this to be the norm. Guy comes that day picks up the car and everything seems ok. Saturday morning my mate gets a letter in the post from his bank saying a CHEQUEfor £7600 had bounced and they enclosed the cheque too. WTF!! He checked the account online and sure enough it had '£7600 unpaid cheque' debited from his balance. Not anywhere in the statement did it say this was a cheque when it was credited, all it said was credit of £7600. As far as my mate was concerned it was a bank transfer, he would never have taken a personal cheque. The name on the cheque was different to the name the guy had given him, can't say if it was stolen or it was a BS accout. He called up his bank and they say that the figure appears on the statement even though the cheque doesn't clear but the money isn't physically there. This is where my mate f*** up big time, he should have confirmed with the bank first rather than taking what he saw on the screen for granted. The bank don't seem interested but they should since he has finance with them. The guys mobile is switched off and we went to the address yesterday in Kilburn NW London and there was noone there by that description. Suprise suprise. Its been reported to the police but I don't think his insurance company will pay up. So there you have it, £7600 out of pocket and he sold the car as he was going back to uni. Clearly this is my mates cock up (and he does know that), he's very niave (My mate even gave him £40 cash cos he never had a chance to MOT it!) but seems there is always some c*** to take advantage of your good nature. NEVER give anyone the benefit of the doubt. So question is what next, surely there is some sort of action he can take against the bank? I've told him to speak to his bank manager and possibly contact the Citizens Advice bureau. Thanks for reading and any help/comments appreciated. Amit edit: swearing....vr6storm
  6. Thanks Majik, very good point mate. I've edited the post.
  7. Oh feck u're right Bob, cheers buddy. Glad someone was paying attention :D
  8. Cheers Dav, next time I see you will say hi. Got anything planned for oyurs?
  9. Saw a red VR on a K plate today turning off the broadway at 7.15pm, was this yours by any chance? Looked clean. I wasn't in the C so you wouldn't have seen me.
  10. Easy fella's, I'm in Southall too. What colour is your C Dav? I'll keep eyes posted. PS don't bother with Park Royal this Sunday it'll be sh!t but try next Sunday 31st :)
  11. Hi, where in London are you? I can recommend Feltham tyres, which is in Feltham funnily enough near to GSF Heathrow: http://www.felthamtyre.co.uk/ HTH Amit
  12. been there done that. Scott, you'll find there is only one bulb in the centre knob and the other 2 feed of it (but not very well) Pull the knobs and you'll know exactly what I mean.
  13. Remove all 3 knobs by pulling out towards you and you will see the bulb sits in the middle. Yup there is only the one bulb and the illumination really is suppose to be that dim. The surround can be pulled off carefully with a flat blade screwdriver from the top (under stereo) and bottom (remove ashtray). HTH
  14. Thanks Glyn, that clears things up a bit. I'll need the clay bar. Say if I went for the Concorso kit I'd be looking at approx £150 compared to the £119.20 of Shield Wax. Is the extra £30 or so justified? Also, in the future what will be the cost of replacement Concorso wax and Shield Wax. TIA Amit

Glad to hear mate and thanks for keeping us posted.
  16. bumperdy bump. Hey, I'm desperate :(
  17. My alternator warning light no longer comes on when I turn the igniton. Also noticed last night the dash lights weren't as bright as usual but when I booted it they were ok, when the car returend to idle they went dim again. For all I know the battery warning light may have otherwise come on. I've just replaced the alternator and I'm going to exchange it on saturday for another and see if its any better. But how would I fix the battery warning light problem? Anyone know which is the wire from the alternator to check? TIA Amit
  18. Just read this topic and its similar to the problem I had I fixed yesterday. Fuse 14 controls the mirrors, reverse lights and heated washer jets. And although it doesn't say in the handbook, if this blows windows also won't work. First thing to check are the heated washer jets under the bonnet. Its very common for the wires to be corrode at the base of the jets and they just came away. Check these aren't shorting on the bonnet else give it a little tug and see if they just pop out, If so disconnect them or tape them up till you buy replacements. Unfortunately, these are quite pricey. Pop a fuse back in and see if it blows. Next I'd check the reverse light switch. On mine this was causing the problem. Disconnect the wiring from the switch and pop a fuse in. Also check condition of the wires around the switch and make sure they are clear of gear linkage. A replacement reverse light switch for mine, 2.0 16v, cost £10.06 from ECP, its an OE part too. If this fails, disconnect all the compnenets and connect each one up and see where fuse blows to corner off the problem. HTH and good luck. Amit
  19. Thought I'd keep you posted on this. The problem appears to be fixed, replacing the reverse light switch seems to have done it. Thanks for your help G60.

    Brake Calipers

Why am I not suprised? Its Euro Car Parts BTW. Its listed under mk4 golf section. Hang on I'll have a butchers. Here it is: GENUINE 133441955 N/S REAR CALIPER GOLF MK4 TO FIT MK2/3 L/H £68.89 GENUINE 133441965 O/S REAR CALIPER GOLF MK4 TO FIT MK2/3 R/H £68.89 *All prices shown exclude VAT. There's also a sucharge. As you can see from above these parts are listed for mk2/3 golfs but not C. But if you take a look at part numbers for the C and mk2/3 calipers they match so logic would dictate the will fit the C. Probably good idea to ask if it comes with the adaptor/fittings for mk4 banjo style but I doubt they would know without it being there. I heard the the adaptors were made by goodridge but I don't know how true this is. HTH

    Battery light

Guys, heres an update on this problem. Replaced the voltage regulator and jump started her. She fired up but alternator was not throwing out enough volts so put it down to duff alternator. Picked a Bosch refurb'ed one from GSF (65Amp £100 BTW) and fitted it Jump started it and it fired up, and the alternator seemed to do the trick. Took it for a spin and it seemed ok other than the battery light flickering , just put that down to new alternator needing bedding in. Drove to a mates about 15 miles away to look at the other probs (windows, mirrors, reverse lights and heated washer jets fuse blowing) and the whole way battery light still kept flickering. Once there, popped in a new fuse no. 14 and everything worked ok, bizarre. Checked the obvious things like washer jets wiring etc and visually seemed ok. Reversed the car out of the garage and sure enough fuse blew. Bollox!! Car then started to die just like before. Jump started it and it was ok. Tested the alternator and it was only putting out 11 to 12v. Can this alternator be duff by chance too or is something else causing this problem? By moving random wires in the engine bay we tried seeing if we could change the flickering of battery light. Mate found around the gear box linkage when he moves the wires the light went off or stayed constantly on. Interestingly when you put it in reverse the linkage push's down on these wires. Anyway, the car's still at his place as there was no way it was going anywhere, someone help before he strips it lol. Any suggestions or pointers on where to look from here? Is there a way the car is eating up alternators? Thanks again. Amit

    Brake Calipers

What year C do you have as late C's have the same rear calipers as mk3 Golfs. I'd check the part numbers first. They are slightly bettter design than the early C calipers but still prone to seizing. The mk4 calipers are the alloy ones. They do bolt straight on but the brake line fitting is different, its a 'banjo' style. ECP do a kit for mk4 calipers to fit mk2 and 4 golfs and it comes with an adaptor or you can get some made up. I'm not sure maybe original mk4 items will work??? HTH
