  1. Boot switch? Like the light in the trunk?
  2. Thanks! School kind of got in the way of everything for a while and I sort of fell off the face of the earth. Im definitely gonna repaint it in red. I like the black enough for now, but I wouldn't want to look at it forever. I'm gonna pull the motor this summer so I'll probably get it done then and get the engine bay done as well.
  3. Thanks guys, I'll go check it as soon as I get a chance... Probably not until Friday though :(
  4. No, you guys were right. I got my volts and amps confused... Thanks for correcting me. I'll go out and check it when I get off work.
  5. Yes, it's just barely below average. I think it reads at about a 12.6 or something.
  6. Around 14v. I have no aftermarket alarm or anything like that. My trunk light has always been disconnected, and I also tried pulling relays. I'll check out that window module though, but could you be a little more specific about the location? Thanks for all of the help so far, everyone.
  7. Yes, which would imply something is draining it while the car is running. I tried a new alternator and battery though, so I doubt it would be either of those.
  8. I've had a battery drain in my '90 G60 for the last six months or so. I didn't change anything in the car before this began. I tried to search but couldn't find any results that helped. I've tested my alternator, swapped batteries, pulled every single relay/fuse out of the car that it didn't need, replaced both battery cables, unhooked the stereo and seatbelts, and nothing has helped it. The only things I haven't done are replace the ignition and the starter. As soon as a second car is hooked up to it, it'll fire right up without any wasted time (seriously, within 1-2min.). I've even tried unhooking the battery while the car is parked, but it didn't work either. I'm about at my wit's end. Both the ignition and starter are relatively expensive, so I'd like to hear what other people have to say before I dive into replacing them.
  9. Here's a few photos of the wheels I'm refinishing for my G60. They're Southern Ways Epsilons, 15x7". Before (left) and after (right)
  10. Hey everyone, I used to be a regular on these forums but have kind of dropped off the face of the earth as of late. I thought I would re-enter by making a post about my G60 project. First, I'll open with a quick introduction. My name is Brian, and I'm a university student from Ohio, U.S.A. I'm graduating in May with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations. Over the years I've owned an '87 Porsche 944, an '85 Saab 900 SPG, and I currently own a '90 Corrado G60 and daily my 2001 GTI. I bought my '90 G60 in the summer of 2007. I had to drive to the west side of Chicago (about 400 miles or so) to pick this gem up. It wasn't running and looked awful when I bought it. I spent the next few months/years polishing it up and keeping it running. Here's a photo taken in the Spring of 2008, after I painted the wheels and replaced the driver's side fender. FK coilovers installed in the summer of '08: I also put red LED lights in the instrument cluster and switches. Unfortunately, the car needed too much attention, so I bought a 2001 GTI and stored it in the winter of 2008. Briefly before I stored it, the car was keyed all down the passenger side to the bare metal. So, to prevent rust, I sanded it down and covered it with a coat of primer. It broke my heart, especially because I had put so much time into maintaining the paint. I did, however, use the time to take care of a lot of body work, remove the power steering, and replace the front ball joints. I also shaved the rear hatch. These photos were taken in the summer of 2009, when I took it out of storage. I put a set of InPro knockoff headlights on it to replace the e-codes I sold. And, finally, she lives again! Shortly after, in October of 2009, I got tired of looking at the primer all of the time. I parked it in my parent's garage and went to town on it with six cans of Krylon black spraypaint. Also installed 1.5" spacers on the rear and 1" on the front. As she sits now: Here's a video: http://www.flickr.com/photos/traverse40 ... 950045870/ Mod list: -American Racing 15" wheels, painted black -BBM ISV re-route -Borla 2.5" exhaust -Sonar E-codes -FK Streetline coilovers -K&N Air Filter -Neuspeed performance chip -Porsche fuel injectors -Tinted tail lights -65mm pulley -VDO gauges There's probably more, but I don't remember it all right now. Here's a photo of my MK4 as well.
  11. I'm picking mine up from my friend's tonight, then it's going into storage for 2+ years on Saturday :(
  12. Here's some more pics and stuff. it's such a different car than the Corrado. This is the newest car that I've ever owned, and I can't get my head around the idea of owning a car that has everything on it working (minus the key FOB, which neds a new batter ). It's honestly not quite as much fun to drive as the Corrado, but this has a bit more spunk to it. Plus the girlfriend loves it.. I changed the oil and spilled some and saw it dripping under the car after we washed it. I pointed it out and she said that she liked it too much for it to be breaking already
  13. I'm not sure if it's related to that or not, but that's basically the case.
  14. Things don't look too good right now. My motor mount bracket is bad, and I've been trying to keep it tightened on until I can get a new one. On Thursday it came loose again, so I drove to my friends house. On the way there the front end started acting weird and making funny noises (clunks, grinds, etc). So I checked it out, and both C/V joints are going bad. The ball joints are also bad, and the tie rods are starting to look a little rusty. Plus the rear motor mount is bad. I was going to put it together so I could get it out of my garage, but as I went to put the front wheel back on I noticed something pressing into my hand. I look down to see that my tire has the metal threads showing through it. So I spent all of yesterday procuring a new DD and a new tire.
  15. So, I've recently realized my 1990 G60 is in much worse shape than I thought. So, I set out to find a new DD. After searching for a while I found this 2001 VW GTI GLS. It's a 1.8T with 1224xx miles on it. It's in great shape mechanically, except needing new brake pads which I'm getting to today. It's got a FMIC (not sure which brand), exhaust (also not sure which brand), APR software, Bilstein suspension, and probably a few other things I'm overlooking. I'm on my girlfriends PC and she still uses IE and I don't know how to insert an image from Flickr with it (need the img address) and I don't feel like trying to figure it out, so here's a picture I posted elsewhere. Probably not the best move for a college kid, but anything is better than a G60. Plus it's going to sit in a parking lot for 5/7 days of the week. What do you guys think?
  16. My current wallpaper on my blackberry rotates between this and a picture of the girlfriend (depends on which one isn't pissing me off at the time )

    headlights poor.

I had e-codes on mine, but they were so freaking dull! It turns out the previous owner didn't put the relay in them so I couldn't see ten feet in front of my car. I put relays in them and upgraded to 6000K bulbs, and it was the best choice I've ever made! Basically all you have to do is between the switch and the headlights, put two relays, just basic 30amp (I think that's what I used) and you're golden.
  18. Damn, I wish I could get mine to say that instead of fearing for her life when I put it down
  19. Woes: -Broke a motor mount -Load reduction relay went bad the same day :( Pics for kicks: Two headlights are for squares!
  20. My girlfriend is afraid of it... Does that count for much?

    Motor mounts

One of my motor mounts went bad. I'm not exactly sure where its at, except that I'm pretty sure it's on the passenger side. Anyways, it went bad, and I left my repair manual at home, and I'm apparently not welcome home anymore, which also leaves me out of a garage. Is there a way to troubleshoot to determine exactly which one? Also, what am I going to have to do to fix it, approximately how long should it take, etc. etc.? Is it possible to do this in a parking lot?

    Batteries

I have a Duralast in mine. It's always been good, except when I've had power drains in my car.
  23. I haven't been around these forums much because I've been too busy working on my car! Big update! First I'll start with the 16V. I have the head on and everything! This is just a crappy cell phone picture. I still have to polish my manifold and bolt it on. I also wanted to have solid black tail lights, but I didn't have the money, so I got some spray on tint and went to town! Then I got tired of my front end looking so crappy, and three days before a show seemed a good time to paint it up  Finished product, the previous night: (^I'm not gonna lie... I kind of miss the stripes :() We were up bright and early the next morning to make the six hour drive to Chicago for CVO's Treffen and Corrado Rush show, which I will make a new topic about it. My friend took these pics on the way there and back. We covered it in painter's tape to try to protect the paint, but had too much fun... When we arrived at the show (my friend Kurtis, Me, and my other friend Chris) Tape off: The trip was fun, but of course something bad had to happen. As I was pulling into the hotel at night after running some errands, a foreign man in a Honda was sitting in the middle of the driveway and I didn't have enough space to get in. Unfortunately, by the time I realized this I was already in the driveway and had two options: Hit him and total my Corrado, possibly send us both to the hospital, or hit the curb. So I took the logical path... At the show: (My friend is on the right) I was pleasantly surprised to see how well it looked compared to some of the others: On the way home my friend took this incredible shot: And then when we got back I went and picked up a few feet of vinyl and I'm trying these on for kicks. I'm back at my university now, so it's going to be a bit before another update most likely... Darn lack of money!!!
  24. Thanks for the comments. It rides a TON better than the old springs. It still rides really smooth this low. It was on Neuspeed springs on stock towers more recently, but when I bought it it had stock towers in the front and Bilsteins in the rear with H&R springs on it. As for my plates, I think it's still legal because the front plate is "...clearly displayed on the front of the vehicle". If you're right in front of it looking at the car from a standing position you can't see it, but from another car driving at it it's clearly visible. No cop has ever said anything about it to me, though I do get some pretty nasty looks from them  I'm going to keep rocking it that way until I get stopped for it. :D
