  1. Are you using a genuine VW belt? No, If you read the thread you will see im using a Dayco belt!, This is where the problem lies, although saying that ive run non OEM belts on lots of cars and never had a problem, seems the pulley set up on the VR is very very sensitive to belts.... No amount of cleaning, talc'ing and belt dressing will cure it.
  2. Yes the king thing is still squeaking on start up on mine, Ive tried everything, its done around 1000 miles now and its still making noise for the first few minutes when cold, i even used a load of Wurth belt dressing on it a couple of nights back and if anything it was worse!
  3. Mine get brighter when they are depressed
  4. Not gonna help me matey!, Mine is a double sided belt, ie ribs on both sides for the aircon compressor!!. I just think its something in the composition of the rubber that makes them squeal like bugery before they settle down. Before i fitted the aircon i fitted a new single sided Dayco belt and it did exactly the same thing, ie squealed like a pig, ended up reverting back to the old belt. I put it down as a one off, but obviously ive fitted two Dayco belts now and they both squeal!
  5. Think mine is beginning to shut up now. I ran a file over the water pump pulley while the engine was running to clean up the polished finish. Its still a bit noisy but not as bad, Hopefully the bloody thing wil shut up soon!, Cant be sprinkling talc over the bay at 5.30am!!
  6. Good luck with it, Hopefully light at the end of the tunnel!
  7. Ive got exactly the same problem on mine, Got the belt from GSF too, Drayco make. I had a shorter single sided belt before i fitted my air con and that squealed to, now i fitted the new longer double sided belt from GSF again and the ****ing thing is still squeaking, ive done everything, talc, cleaned the belt, cleaned the water pump pulley up, Ive resigned myself to the fact its a crap belt and im going to get a new one from VW....
  8. Matt black the Vette Rims Vick!
  9. Personally i dont believe in all that old gear, All your ding is prolonging the inevitable anyhow. if you really want to try and get a bit more mileage out of a tired head then go up a grade on the viscosity of your oil but bare in mind winters approaching
  10. I found lowish rpm in 5th down a long hill highlighted mine to its worst effect, high rpm in a low gear was not as bad for the smokescreen. Whatever way its defo sounds like stem oil seals. I just did a head rebuild on a spare head i had,my palms are still sore from lapping 12 valves in!
  11. Basically that is exactly the same as a Mk3 Golf heater dial, i believe the Passat is the same Dont know about super rare! I have one exactly the same in the car i broke to rob the air con out of, same set up but it didnt have air con written on it, As you say the switches you got are for LHD air con cars, if you look at the back of a stock cig lighter you will see the moulding ready for the switches. £140 for the switches - you must be mad, or rich!! No RHD cars ever came with aircon from the factory, it was only a dealership option - ie retrofit Divia kit.
  12. maybe you have an aftermarket aircon All RHD cars were aftermarket Diavia systems
  13. But your old engine was blowing all sorts of sh1t out of the exhaust wasnt it? All that carbon and oil could still be sitting in the exhaust. You yourself metioned the new lambda you fitted was filthy with carbon etc,it wouldnt surprise me if the thing is just burning off all the crap and oil that accumulated in your exhaust over the last couple of months of poor running. If it feels like its runnng and pulling ok and has no faults on VAGCOM go and take it for a hard drive for an hour and see what its like when you return.
  14. Looks Phat Jim!!! Just watch your sump matey!! At least youve got the 90mm spoiler to warn you if your going to hit!. Bet youve noticed a slight difference in acceleration!!!!
  15. Steve, the early Corrado's had the sliders for direction ala Mk2 Golf which is what Arnau has in his Corrado. So Arnau there is no way of turning the fan off? 1 is the lowest?
  16. One wire will be permanent live, the other two are temp related for the 2 speed fan, ie one is lover temp switch and one is the high temp switch. Cant remember which one is which but it is not difficult to find out, multimeter is your friend.
  17. Well just as an example, when i fitted a 2.9 into my Corrado (it originally came with a 2.8!), the valve stem oil seals were shot to pieces, I refurbed the 2.8 head - exactly the same as you had happened to it - two bent valves etc,all new stem oil seals, all valves relapped in etc. Swapped the head over this weekend and when i started the car, no smoke at all, after about 5 mins when i blipped it there was bluey blackish smoke, on tickover it was hazing faint blue. I knew it would clear eventually as it was obviously oil etc burning off from where i decoked all the pistons etc and it did. Took it for a drive for 20-30 minutes and it was good as gold. If yours is gradually clearing id continue to drive it for a while and see if it improves...
  18. The aircon should only kick in if the interior fan is actually on , ie if the fan is on '0' the compressor will not kick in, Move the slider with the fan in the zero position, then turn the fan on again once youve got past the aircon selection.
  19. I take it youve checked the temp sender in the thermo housing for the ecu?
  20. you plugged it in and checked the fault codes Zak?
  21. Whilst the air con will keep your coolant temps stable believe me if your driving hard it will not help your oil temps one little bit. Bottom line is the oil cooler/heat exchanger is just not efficient enough to cope with sustained hard driving.
  22. I wouldnt worry about it at all. Mine does it like yours and i can start it immediately afterwards as in i flick the key again straightaway and it starts on the button.
  23. Mine does this very occasionally, I reckon its the transponder loop that goes round the ignition barrel not registering the transponder in the key first time, It always restarts immediately...
