excellent guys, thanks for confirming what I thought. It was a mechanic that told me that they are prone to air blocks, just as well I dont use that mechanic anymore. Right then, off to rescue my stricken G60 at the ide of the road after losing its water
-
Just to check, would bleeding the coolant system on my other halfs G60 be the same as any other watercooled dub. Run with expansion tank off until coolant level comes right to top, put cap on, run again until all up to temp, then cool down and recheck level? Ive been told tht a G60 is a bastard to bleed through and can lead to a lot of air locks! - I think its bollards, but thought Id ask

I do actually have a autobra bonnet bra in the garage, may have to try it on (the car, not me)

well, weve had quite a love affair wih the Corrrado over the last couple of years. It all started with this: My mint 77k valver, apart from a dent, was spotless and great fun to drive, but was sadly taken away from me after just a month of ownership, and couldve killed me in the process, ended up like this: was scraping ice from the back window outside my house, when an idiot on his phone (couldnt be proved) drove into the back of it, whilst I was standing there, you can in fact see where my legs were at time of impact. then got an early spec, non-sunroof tornado red valver for my other half, she loved it, but was costing a lot to run, as kept having niggly problems, you may have seen it for sale with pinking issues, and after ploughing so much cash into it, we decided enough was enough, and got rid 2 weeks ago. Looked like this though: so, the hut was on,long before the red one went up for sale, and after looking at a few ropey examples, I stumbled across an old advert on here from Shaung60. We werent after a g60 initially, but after looking into her insurance, found out it will only be another £80 a year, and being her daily driver, insurance was very important. Shaun ws a pleasure to deal with, letting me go and have a look round it without out him being at home, even leaving it un-alarmed and un-locked for us. We decided the car was a good'un, and was very very honestly described, so phoned Shaun that evening to ask if we can come back the following day and drive her. So we all jumped into the red valver, and went to take a drive in the G, the sound sold it for us, and despite a strange rattle on test drive (turned out to be one missing bolt on the alternator, so it was moving about), drove very very well. Here it how it looked when we first viewed it, Shaun wanted to keep the BBS splits though so we managed to source another set of wheels,a set of 16" Borbet C's which Shaun even fitted for us, and we went way very happy, the other half i in love with this car, more so than the red valver when she bought it. as soon as we got it home, booked it into the garage for a general check over, cambelt, alternator belt etc, and to sort the alternator rattle out. picked the car up, and was given a full bill of health, apart from the fact it had a boost leak from one of the boost pipes which wasnt on properly, so the drive home was fantastic, this thing absolutely flies, and the sound is something else. The plans are to not do a lot more really, get a area of rust on the rear arch sorted, and then maybe a chip and pulley and RSR outlet in the future, but apart from that, its such a nice and tight car to drive, so thanks Shaun, she is over the moon with the G She is virtually standard, apart from being lowered on a set of Bilstein Shocks and Apex springs, and a full Miltek stainless exhaust, which I really rate (yes Shaun, it is a Miltek, its faintly engraved on the tailpipe and underneath, found this ut when it was in the air) Heres how she stands after a good polish, sealant and wax:

How on earth can you remove the parcel shelf straps from the shelf? I thought they may just pull through, but no, is it possible to remove them without breaing them?
-
Its almost certainly a very simple answer, but how does the clutch pedal footrest fit? Just got a g60 with the foot rest not fitted, not a problem I thought, but just gone to fit it, and I dont know how. I can see that there is a screw into the top part, but then there is a metal plate at the bottom, does it screw into this?
-
Just got a g60, and looking into getting a bit more out of it in the future, obviously theres a chip and pulley upgrade, but I see lots of G60 owners have an RSR outlet, but what are the actual benefits, what does it do, and is it easy to fit?

I ned to change the front engine mount on my G60, which ones are best? I know they are fairly weak, so is it worth upgrading to a sold engine mount? What do you guys run as a front engine mount?
-
Has anyone got any pictures of Corrados on Borbet C's? Either 15" or 16" Thanks
-
Does anybody know if a set of Estorils off a late 16v will fit over a set of G60 brakes? I know Sebrings will also, but what about BBS RA's?

Has anyone used the bolster from a set of RS Turbo recaros on a set of Corrado recaros? I cant get hold of a any Corrado specific bolsters, but can find RS Turbo ones Failing that, does anone know where I can get Corrado Recaro bolsters?
-
Always keep your eyes peeled on ebay, I managed to get hold of a set of electric/heated leather recaros from a chap in London for £150! Thats complete with leather rear bench The drivers seat needs some repair work, but still useable and the passenger seat is mint!
-
I see, makes sense now! They arent being wired i because they ar oing inot my Jetta, and not our Corrado (she doesnt like them) Can they be wired up to a car battery and adjusted? I know that is crude, but its only to get them into position for me
-
got a set of leather electric recaros, now they are not going to be wired in, so I will need to adjust them manually to get them where I want. Underneath the seat, there is a lever just like the manual seats, that you pull to move the seat, is it normal for the recaros to have a manual movement function too? only backwards and forwards.
-
does anyone know if the foam bolsters are available for the Corrado recaros? If so, who from? Ive found mk2 golf ones from people like capital seating, but they dont list corrado ones. Cheers

when it rains hard, or I wash my other halfs Corrado, water collects around the fuel filler neck, it doesnt drain away, so Im assuming the drain hole is blocked. Is there anyway I can remove it to clear the drain hole?

This has been happening with my other halfs corrado 16v of lately, after getting it for her, we had a series of small annoying coolant leaks, which we put down to old age - thermostat housing, small pipe on the side of the engine, and then the waterpump leaked. it turns out the cooling system has too much pressure building up, and unfortunately, its because the headgaskethas gone! :( thus, this is why we kept having coolant leaks as the pressure was forcing coolant out of the weakest point! hope its not the same with yours, but get it checked out mate!

The bottom hose isnt as hard, and is hot, so Im assuming the stat is fine, the car hasnt overheated, and the oil temp remains at a good level, its just that the hose was harder than Id have thought, I will be checking again later when it has cooled down to see if the hose has returned to its natural shape, or in fact it was just me reading too much into things. the water pump makes no noises, and the rad seems to remain dry around it, I cant see any leaks/white staining! Ive also put a new blur expansion tank cap on in the last 6 months as a matter of course
-
My other halfs corrado 16v (kr) has had a couple of niggly coolant leaks, one was a hose with a slight split in it, the other being the thermostat housing. They came one after the other, and now it is losing water again, but I dont where from! Its had a new head gasket within he last 10k, at a reputable vw specialist, but we cant seem to stop the coolant leaks! today, the water temp light started flashing, so I pulled over, checked coolant to see it had lost a lot, so let it cool down, then filled it up, and drove on fine, no more light! I sat there with it running, and I could see that the top rad hose was bulging, and rock solid when I squeezed it, is this right? It had a new thermostat when the housing was replced, but could the water pump be dying, causing the cooling system to pressurize? I think the leak is also from the water pump!

Ive just had a phone call from my other half, she drove her car last night, and whilst she was driving, the gauges started to stop working, rev counter, fuel and temp gauges, and finally the speedo have all stopped working! The dash lights havnt stopped though! Now, that was bad enough, but I thought they must all be connected, so will have to pay someone to have a look, but now, the spoiler went up like it should do, but hasnt dropped, even using the button under the dash hasnt brought it back down! Any ideas guys, she wasnt very upset when I spoke to her, so any advice I could pass on may cheer her up a bit!

what is the compatibility of vr6 coilovers and a 16v corrado? Ive been offered a set of fk coilovers that have hardly been used, from a late vr corrado, but my other halfs C is a 1.8 16v! I know they will bolt on fine, but will the front spring rates be far too stiff, and thus give the car an awful ride? any ideas?
-
Are all Corrado radiator fans the same? Ive found some genuine fans, but all it says is that it is suitable for all corrados/golfs/jettas etc will one for a 1989 1.8 16v be the same as any other corrado? does anyone have a part number handy? and is it a pain in the arse job to change, as there doesnt appear to be much room?!
-
how easy is it to change the bonnet on the C? Is it a pain to get it re-alinged so that it sits properly, or does it all go back together fairly easy?
