If you're gonna use it with an iPod, I know a few people who've had serious problems with that slidey thing and the interface. I had Clarion DXZ838RMP for years and it was great, but the ribbon is shagged so its now collecting dust in my garage. I'm now using a Kenwood Mask unit that was in my Cordoba when I bought it. The ribbon's starting to go but they're only £8 on the 'Bay. I'm gonna keep that in my C as it looks classy with the mask on or off. When that packs up, I'll be looking at a highish end Alpine.

Headgasket on the way out - what should i be paying?
Tom B replied to PoorMansPorsche's topic in Engine Bay
I'd be asking for a breakdown of the costs, like how much the head skimming is, how much the parts will DEFINITELY be and what guesstimation of labour they're using, charged at what rate. -
In and out my garage. I have problems doing it now (front bumper catches the floor), so imagine what its gonna be like when I lower it!

Did all Corrados come with a space saver then? I opened my boot and found a G60 alloy in mine :) It's just a shame I don't have matching G60 alloys on the car :(

There's a set of 3 in my local scrappy on a MK2 Golf. They're definitely Ronals

I also have a Polo GT, which I use as my runabout while the C's VOR. I paid £350 for it, spent another £100 on a cambelt kit, front brakes, a full service, etc and its never let me down. When the C's running again, I'm keeping it, but SORNing it. If I need to use it, I'll stick £60 tax on it and away I go.

Multiple keys. Can i fix my door handles so i can have 1 key
Tom B replied to quicky1980's topic in Interior
A word of warning... I did my locks by filing the tumblers down, which does work very well. However, I tried the locks with a bunch of keys from old VWs I used to have, and my Polo key, and they all unlocked the car. Not all of them locked it. Now I'm sure you'll all agree that this makes your car vunerable to thefts as anyone can walk past and try their key in your lock, especially at shows and what have you. If you are doing this, I would recommend calling VW and getting your key number, then getting the combination to the key from their cutting manual along with their measurements, and do this with completely new tumblers. I'm not sure how you can work out what cutting machine number matches the VW tumbler number, but I'm sure there's a way. I'm going to contact VW tomorrow and attempt this. The dealer I use is cool and they know me from when I worked at the Renault Nissan garage across the road, so they should be able to help me out providing someone in there's got some knowledge of how to do it. I'm sure some locks can be done with the filing method, but my lock combination must be way too common, or I've filed them down way too much. I hope this helps, -
Multiple keys. Can i fix my door handles so i can have 1 key

Being bored on a Saturday evening, I thought I'd try and rebuild one of my door locks myself. I have to say, it's so so so so easy! As long as you have a small flat headed screwdriver, a metal file and some grease, you can have a side done in 15 minutes easy. That's 2 less keys for my Corrado. I'm now down to 9! -
I worked for a Renault dealer up until 2 weeks ago in the parts department and I was in charge of making sure parts were ordered in advance for warranty. The common things to go on a 172/182 are: Gearboxes Driveshafts (which on Phase 2 (triangle headlights, 5 spoke alloys) & 3 (182) are not service exchangeable) ECUs Exhausts Rain sensors Remote keys TDC sensors EGR valves I almost bought one. I too was hooked on the drive. However I started checking out the warranty history on the ones on Auto Trader, and found about 80% of them were imports, so had less warranty, and they'd all had a hell of a lot of warranty work. I was about to put a deposit down on a silver 51 plater but someone else got to it before I did. Two weeks later the supplying garage called me and needed a quote for a new gearbox as it had just blown up. Another garage fitted it but lost the immobiliser code by leaving hte battry disconnected. The car turned out to be imported from the UAE, and Renault couldn't get a code for it, so new decoder boxes and remotes had to be bought. The car left our workshop a month later. The day the garage rang for the gearbox quote was the day I realised I was being stupid for even considering a Renault.

VW, like other manufacturers, just send them to a locksmith to do the rebuild. I used to work for Nissan and they would send any locks to Bolton Lock Company to get done, but it was £25/lock. All I did was ring a locksmith and ask who did them in my area. They recommended someone else and I was astonished at how cheap it was and how quick a turnaround they had. It's commonly done, but its also astonishing to know how many people have odd locks considering how little it costs to get it changed. A lot of people think it can't be done! -
You put the same speaker in twice on the JBL side. The coax's in the front should fit any car with the right sized hole (ooh err missus!) Try turning the speaker round in the hole a few times and see if you can get all the screw holes to line up. I wouldn't even bother replacing the rears in all honestly, disconnect them and see how much sound you lose. I've never ran a car with rear speakers, even if they have them factory fitted.

Yeah they're cheap rubbish that Demon Tweeks sell, or used to sell.

Ring your local locksmiths and see who does them. There's only one firm on this side of Northants that does them, but it takes an hour and costs £12 a side. If I wasn't getting delocked handles, I'd get both my door locks done as they are both different. -
Wow, that's amazing! I want a Phaeton more than ever! :D

My best mate was paying £1800 a year fully comp on his MK3 Golf GTI 8v at 18. I called him a fool as I had a 1.4 Ibiza while I built up my no claims. He pays under £700 now he's 20. You need to ring around and see who'll insure you. Adding parents can sometimes reduce your premium (I add my mum as a named driver and save £100 a year!) and getting a good alarm and garaging it always helps. Some insurance companies give discounts to forum members, so check out which forums offer that and join them :) Oh and some offer discounts if you have other insurance or accounts with them, so find out who your parents bank with, insure everything with, etc and go from there. Hope to help!

And y'know what, we just scrapped a load of Micra doors at work! (It looks like a late Micra to me, apologies if its not!)
-
Yeah I've got it written down in the garage. He hasn't arrived with it yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed it goes that low!
-
Well I got it on by using a rubber mallet to knock the bolt holes to the right place. I'm just waiting for a mate to come round with a torque wrench. Once I've got that on and fixed a few leaks I'll change the filter and get it running. All SHOULD (but probably won't) be well very soon.
-
Well I'm that annoyed with it I'm putting off finishing it right now! :D Oh and I've just bought some sick wheels for the Polo, whilst trying to find some G60 BBS's.
-
Thats what I've been trying to do and its not working. That said, it's been a long day and I was very frustrated so there's a chance on a clear head tomorrow that I can fix it. The sump and gasket is a new ECP item.
-
Well I've given up for today. I might even give up full stop. The sump doesn't want to go on properly, all it wants to do is cross-thread bolts and not line up right. I really hate cars, especially this one. Despite kicking the thing repeatedly and having a cigarette, I'm still severly fucked off with it. Anyone want a G60? They can take it.

Nice one, thanks Darren! :D Right, whats the bet I get under the car and someone turns up in my driveway?
