  2. My insurance basically said they did not insure cars which were in any way modified. I'm not certain but I think that was Highway Insurance who are very "cost effective" (cheap). I belive I am quite a low risk living where I do and being an old-git. I will be paying the extra, moving to another insurer and certainly cannot recommend them.
  3. Think I've found the problem. One of the engine mounts was loose ! Thanks All
  4. Cheers, I am not convinced it is the ECU because "Jiggling" the wires at tha Airflow meter seems to cure this. Thanks for the reply though.
  5. Hi Guys anyone got any thoughts on this. Every now and again I lose power completely. Engine still running, after about a second it comes back with full on power. Quite a jar to the car. It will do this every ten or twenty minutes. If I stop and "jiggle" the wires on top of the airflow meter the engine will behave perfectly for a few days before it starts off again. Vag - Com gives the error "Wire to the Air Meter shorted intermittantly to earth" I have replaced the airflow meter (and the cam position sensor) and had the wiring loom to the air flow meter checked by an auto electritian. Im getting very p.....d off. Can anybody help. Please.
  6. I Just remembered the spring on the VR are (new)VW Original Equipment for a VR.
  7. The set cost £400 from memory but I couldn't get my insurance company to accept TA Koni's on HR springs. At the time I needed to get the car on the road ASAP so I had no choice. This is all from memory - It was a stressfull time. Cheers
  8. I tell you, I thought I was just driving faster with the VR but when I went back to the 1.8 I could take "sharp" corners 10mph faster without trying.
  9. I have replaced the suspension on the VR back to insurance frendly jap aftermarket gear. It now goes round corners like a boat not like the 16v which goes round like its on rails (Bilstien I think) I noticed the clearance round the rear wheels on the VR is much bigger although the front is about the same. I measure the following to top of strap loop which goes through the rear bumper to the road. The 1.8 measures 28 cm The VR6 measure 36 cm Scary! Would someone else do that measure for either car to confim that this could be the problem? Is it possible to fit the suspension incorrectly to create this height (36cm) What do you think?
  10. Hi all, Happy new year. Time to spend more beer tokens on the VR :) I have an intermitant problem with my "Cam Position Sensor (G40)" and have had two different sensors supplied so both being incorrect ! Has anyone got any idea what the correct part number for this is. Also its looking like I'm coming up on needing a MAF Sensor Thanks Anton
  11. Cheers, I got mine pretty much next day. Excellent Service. Thanks again. Anton

    RadWeld ?

I have a pin hole radiator leak (Stone Chip?) and it as been suggested that I put in radweld however I am nevouse what they would do to my VR6 engine. What do you think ?
  13. Slightly different problem, the boss that holds the centre cog broke, I fixed it with a bolt and lots of epoxy but now the white light reflector will not fit. Can I live without this, or should I make the effort and fab up a new one ? Cheers
  14. I noticed the RAC use 15 years as a minimum age for their classic car insurance, and lowering the mileage (to 2000) mades very little difference on my 14 year old. :(
