  1. Wasnt to sure on the surname, so that was a guess from memory...poor old memory! My mate was looking at that engine, not to sure on its general health as the turbo looked very oiled up. As far as finding one just got to trawl though all the breakers, the bargins are to be had at small breakers that dont know what a 20vt or 24v vr is worth. All pot luck really! I'd budget on £2500 all in to change to a 20vt or 24v vr if you are fitting it yourself. I'm no expect but that seems to be a reasonable estimate from what my mate has investicated so far. Its all the small things that add up and bit you in the ar5e. I guess you'll be changing the gearbox to, to a manual?
  2. Was this Jason Sanders car from west sussex?? Did you get it for a good price? He offered it to me for 3k but I had just put down the deposit on my VR. Sounds like a great project car. I would go 20vt with it or maybe 24v VR. Good luck with the new project.
  3. I knew I should have studied more in my physics lessons!
  4. Good to see you Asim by the way, didnt spot you again in the show, but hope to catch up with you again soon, The ones Nigel's sending are the all red ones I did around 4 years ago......indicators flash red, but hey the cops never pulled me in the 2 years I had them on the car. Have you masked them in a strippy way to get over the all red flash???
  5. Must say that I prefer the full black light and grill on the light C, colour coding works well with the dark C, but not as well on light ones. Afraid I will be copying you on the rear light front. Nigel Brookes is sending me my old all red lights from my old G60. Cant wait to pop them on to clean up the rear end.
  6. Your C looked great at inters OSV, paintwork it minty fresh. Well done. Gives me something to aim for with my satin silver VR.
  7. no worries beavis. Just thinking about this oil / water heatup thang. Would I be right in saying that the higher density the fluid the longer it takes to heat up. Hence why the water in the engine is heating up quicker than the oil. I realise the oil is in direct contact with the underside of the pistons etc so will see higher temps than the water, so offsetting the rates of heating up. So if all the above is correct, it is better to keep the original oil/water heat exchanger to help warm the oil up, with the additional oil to air cooler to keep the top end down.
  8. Thanks for the info beavis, but mines a VR, i think its a bit different. I ran a quick check on oil verses water temp last night and the water does get hot quicker than the oil...well that the water and oil gauges read anyway.
  9. I would pefer to keep the standard cooler as i'm lead to believe it actually helps to warm the oil from a cold start. Getting the oil up to operating temp as soon as has got to be good.
  10. Hi All, Another question for today, can someone with a Mocal oil cooler kit describe or even better provide pics of how the sandwich plate is fitted?? The reason I ask is that I have the VR up on axel stands at the mo and had a look underneath, the standard oilcooler is mounted seperately to the filter housing, which looks all very odd compared to 4 cyl vw's. Also interested in suggestions on where to get one from.
  11. Hi All, Decided I need some new leads and feel that the Magnecor KV85 are the ones to go for after doing a bit of reading here and there. Best price I have so far is £108.39 inc VAT from motorsport world. Can't find any details about delivery charges on the website. I didnt see any stands selling them at inters.... Has anyone seen them cheaper anywhere else???
  12. Best way is to hoover over the seat (as if you were using a french toilet for number 2's!) and lift the base back and up. It should just pop out.
  13. Got to agree with Phat there, the Clifford intellistart monitors engine rpm to determine when the car has started and kills the starter motor. It also has a safety feature to stop the car being started in gear. I'd be very careful with using an extra output to start your car, could end in disaster!!!!
  14. At first glance I thought it was yours phat....it was the orange in the pic that did it
  15. Sure are headlamp washers, huge 7 litre washer fluid tank to go with them. I've only seen them on a few VR's. I havent checked what options mine has as yet. Will check etka when I have a chance. Got a big list of new bits required at inters, nothing to big on the mods side, just lots of little touches and new lights here and there. Had a good drive out this evening to go and look at a car for my girlfriends dad, VR was lovely, i'm liking the K&N induction roar a lot!!!
  16. [OSV quote] So what do I do with the show set. Sell them to me for a Tenner!!!!!
  17. yep just 2 leather fronts, and the rest stock. Looked a bit crap.
  18. The colour of them is fine Nigel, they just seem a little fussy to me. Thanks for all the other comments chaps.
  19. Hi All, Been looking for a while, was lucky enough to have put onto this car by James Renshaw, thanks again James. Picked it yesterday morning. Satin Silver as you can see with late cloth interior (did have leather front seats, see my other post, as they are for sale on ebay), Koni coilovers, Team Dynamics Race 1 17"'s (Still not sure if they are to my taste, so if anyone has anything interesting to swap......), Engine was rebuilt 15k ago including new honing the bores, new rings, chain and tensioners and a new clutch, so should be ok for a while (touch wood!) Work done so far....... Fitted original front seats. Removed grill spoiler (dont like them, see other 'for sale' post). Remove rear windscreen wiper and mech, lovely clean rear end. Trimmed up the scabie roof trims. Fixed the darn heater controls, what a mess! I'll post up some pics of the repair as its worked really well. Fitted my momo gear knob (cant fit my steering wheel yet as a friend has my boss, bugger!) Nice big shopping list sorted for next weekend at GTI I. I'll be camping friday and sat night at wanstead so hope to meet a few of you. Cheers Andy
  20. Always try to use VW supplied glass, i've heard of many people having leaking problems with pattern windscreens.
  21. I used to have G6 OGO, now on a golf G60.
  22. Elephant are the daddies at the mo, giving me full no claims on both cars. 394 for a VR, full n/c's, 33, no accidents or convictions, 27 year old girlfriend with 2 accidents in the last three years (bloody women drivers!!!) lowered syspension 17's and k&n.234 for the seat 1.9D. Need to speak to Brentacre, Chris Knott and Greenlight tomorrow. Adrian Flux gave up before they even started when I told them what the Elephant quotes were.
  23. Hi All, I'm currently getting quotes to insure a Corrado and my daily shitbox Ibiza. Most insurance companies seem to only allow you to use your no claims on one car. But Elephant have said that if I insure both with them I can have the discount on both polices. Is anyone else in the same situation? Can you give me any advise on companies to ring. I'm wondering if any do a combined policy. If this has been asked before please point me in the direction of the thread. Cheers Andy
  24. Thought that may have been the changeover to OB2, what does that mean as far as what vag-com cannot monitor? Thanks for the reply Matt
  25. Hi All, Been to see a K reg VR6 tonight, as its early one it has a dizzy instead of coilpacks. Seems an advantage to begin with as no need to worry about those dodgy coilpacks going up the spout!! But does anyone know what other differences this engine has apart for the dizzy and if its worth holding out for a later car with the later spec engine??
