  1. No mate it's the actual sensor end that has snapped.
  2. Ok cheers, where is the inspection hole bud??
  3. There is nothing left to solder to mate. Just a tiny corroded stump... Will take another look tomorrow and see if I could make soulder work
  4. Vr6 bud...... Inner gasket http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/engine-parts/engine-parts1/car-gasket-seals/?372440110&1&dfa4e47d95bf90ab45fecc2ee1f6bce6eb2aaca3&000462 Outer gasket http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Corrado_2.9_1993/p/car-parts/engine-parts/engine-parts1/car-gasket-seals/?372440120&1&4fd71e2f6d726ac2a53b20b849ba4f2049e4fe69&000462 I'm pretty sure it's the inner I need........
  5. Looking on euro for the exhaust gasket from the head. Euro list inner and outer, am I correct in thinking its the inner that I need??
  6. I'm busy doing the head gasket on the VR......when I removed the fuel rail there was three wires going to what I think is the oil filter housing, two came off great but on the other the connector has snapped off.... Question 1, what are the wires? Question 2, are the connectors that thread into the filter still available? (it's the green and black wire that goes to it off that's any help) Cheers Rob ---------- Post added at 3:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:31 PM ---------- Is it am oil pressure switch I need? ---------- Post added at 3:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 3:42 PM ---------- Google tels me it's the oil temp sensor for the MFA, anyone know if they are still available?
  7. Im about to refit the cylinder head to the VR but I'm a bit concerned that I don't have cylinder 1 at TDC, it looks like it is with the head off so I'm presuming it's where it should be but is there any other way I can tell?? I don't have the box off so can't look at the fly wheel and my crank pully hasn't got the mark on.....I set it to TDC when removing the head with the locking tool but worried that when if been charting about removing the aux belt I might have moved it. The piston is at the very top of the bore as is the bottom right cylinder if looking from the front of the car, it's prob perfectly alright but I just want to make sure......I marked the sprockets and chain so I know where it needs to be when refitted.... Cheers Rob
  8. iPhone spell check.... Well if the chains need to be done I have a problem as I doubt I have the skill or confidence to strip the transmission off, the head is proving a big enough challenge! I have no chain noise so fingers crossed its ok, so from what you have said I need to have the section of chain at the front of the engine tight and then the tensioner is at the back to pull in the slack? I presume if I'm not removing the intermediate sprocket that I need to remove one if the cam sprockets to get the chain off? I must sound thick here but I'm regretting starting this job.
  9. What tool do I need to remove my head bolts and refit? Cheers
  10. Cheers bud, I presume I can get to the intermediate sprocket with just the top chain cover off? The part I'm confused about is once the chains are off (I will have the locking tool in place) how do I know they are correct once back on? Of course the cams are locked and the block is at TDC but how do you know that the chains are at the right point on the sprockets? Is it just best to mark the chain on the sprockets at both intermediate and on the cams? I'm sure the questions sound stupid but I don't want to get this wrong.....
  11. Lol cheers Chris but the joy has been short lived!! Today wielded very bad news, I started the car up and ran it to temp and I could hear a hissing noise, I had a look under the bonnet and found this...... I'm sure you will agree my head gasket has given up on life.....I have to admit I was a bit annoyed about this at first but then decided it was a nice way to learn a bit more about the engine so I decided to strip the thing and change it, I made a start today and I have got as far as removing everything but the timing chain ready to lift the head off and I have the engine set to TDC, I'm now waiting for the cam locking tool to arrive before I can go any further however I have a baby due on Friday so progress is going to slow down big style!! pic of how far I got today. Thanks for reading Rob
  12. Ok so today I think I got the engine at TDC, the notches on the end of the cam shafts line up with the smaller area to the top and I'm now waiting for the tool to arrive to lock the cams, the next question is what next?? I understand I have to remove the big tensioner bolt and then the timing chain cover, after this do I remove the sprockets from the cams?
  13. I have the Bentley but haven't seen much in it about the head gasket, how do I get the engine to TDC if I'm not removing the transmission? Do I lock the cams in place once I have the engine at TDC, then undo the camshaft sprockets and remove them, then undo the head bolts and lift the head off? Are the head bolts removed in the order they are numbered or in reverse and also do they have to be removed in sequence but also a turn at a time etc?? Should the head lift straight off or will it be hard to lift off? Sorry for all of the questions but I want to be funny informed before I do this job, I'm hugged I have the whole car back together to now have to take it all apart again...... Cheers Rob
  14. Ok mate think I'm going to go for it, I read somewhere that I need to set the timing before I take the head off?? Is this true? Obviously I'm going to do the chains whilst I'm in there so is there any point? Cheers
  15. So today I ran the car up to temp and could hear a fizzing from the engine, I had a look and could see a little steam and some residue around the head so I'm pretty confident my head gasket has given up, my question is this....how big a job is the head gasket and also if I decide not to do the work how much will I pay at a garage? Cheers
  16. eBay bud, perfect fit and it's heated yes, just put corrado mirror glass into an eBay search, there are plenty heated ones on there, you have to cut the backing plate a bit as the terminals are spaced differently but other than that it's a perfect fit.
  17. Ah ok bud I follow you now :-) Well today I got a bit more work done on the car. First up was fit the new mirror glass, massive improvement it has to be said. Finally after finding a parts department that didn't automatically tell me everything is obsolete I got my splitter reinforcement bar and got the splitter fitted. After much battling with the wires I got the head unit fitted (it was never fitted properly in the past) I'm not sure that I like the look of it so it may have to come back out. I then set about an interior detail, it's not 100% finished but looking a lot less sorry for itself. Still need to remove the old tax disc holders sticky stuff from the front screen, paint the wiper arms again and also get them fitted, paint the rear plate plinth then give the wheels a detail and I think I'm as good as done for this year..... Cheers Rob
  18. I just out a set of dubpower leads on mine and the appear to be good so far and the cheapest about :-)
  19. Yeah I know of the thread on vag cars, get a few part numbers off the guy but its fairly far away for me :-) I have asked for a response from VW so I will see what they come back with, I can't comment about the scotswood branch other than today's experience and they were very helpful to the point where my phone dropped service and they called me back as soon as I had service to sort my order for me. I may talk to the sales manager tomorrow and let him know if the lost sale also as I'm pretty unhappy with the branch....Mercedes or BMW will be getting my money this year Rob
  20. Well I have emailed the head office today so I will see what the response is, needless to say that today lost them the sale of a spanking new passat CC to replace the mrs 120 cabby....time to look at BMW or Mercedes again
  21. The dealer in question was benfield VW silverlink, stupid thing is that 4 miles away at benfield vw Newcastle they could get me the parts.....complete joke it has to be said!
  22. Think I will, seems out of order that they are so unprepared to help customers......they have lost my business for sure and I but as much genuine as I can
  23. Today I went to my local vw parts department to get my splitter reinforcement bar and bolts, I gave the parts guy the numbers etc, he looked at them and said he couldn't get them, no checking or anything, I asked him if he could check the system so he walked away and was back in under 30 sec saying his manager said they couldn't get it. Not believing him I called the next closest parts department and gave them the numbers, they checked the numbers, ordered me my parts and hey presto tomorrow I get the parts I needed......why could the other dealer not have helped me out and taken a look? Has anyone else had this issue with parts departments? The first dealer has been "unable" to get me a fair few bits in the past and I'm now left wondering if they have just been taking the p and can't be bothered..... Rob
  24. Lol indeed, can't beat having a bench and sink in the garage along with a fridge full of beer.....unfortunately the house is going up for sale soon so I loose the use of it soon :-(
