Ok I will take a look at the electrode at some point over the weekend also, Not sure about burning oil as the car uses very very little, the thing that I'm puzzled about is the fact that the car only ran for about 30min when the aa started her and then has never run since and the plugs were that black even though they were cleaned when the aa fired the car?? Should have the new fuel pressure reg next week so I can get that fitted and then I should know if I need to start looking at the coil pack also. Thanks for the help

Managed to take 5 min today to pull the plugs out as I'm waiting for a new fuel pressure regulator coming and they looked fairly black so I'm presuming this means it's rich? Would they be blackened from trying to start as t he aa man cleaned them when they were out when the starting issue first happened but it hasn't run since, pics below show plugs, all we're dry and not wet as I expected to see......... All 6 plugs. This was the worst of the lot. Gave them a good clean up and need to dig my feelers out to check the gap, I think the Bentley states 0.7mm. Cheers Rob

I'm also trying to think of an appropriate way to remember my dad on the car but it has to be discrete, was perhaps thinking his name on the bottom of my plates or something but not sure if it might look a bot cheap, any ideas let me know :-) Cheers Rob

Cheers southie, I think I will call down the dealer at the weekend as i think im going to replace the regulator anyhow due to the smell of fuel in the hose. I'm on nights at the moment so I'm in no real rush. Thanks for the offer though. Rob

Just read all this properly, I say over fuelling but of course it could be flooding as a cause of not starting and been constantly turned over...... Going to try and source some hose and go from there replacing the regulator then the coil pack. Think this could be the right hose? Vagcat says the hose is 3.5mm x 2mm, I'm presuming the 2mm relates to the wall thickness but this shouldn't be too important? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Black-cotton-Overbraid-Vacuum-Hose-3-5mm-VH009-/321027452991?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4abeba303f

Ok thanks very much for all the info you have provided!! I will get some hose tomorrow and give it a go. Would I be correct in thinking if the hose is damaged there won't be a strong enough vacuum for the pressure emulator to function correctly? I'm almost convinced its flooding that is my issue....
-
Cheers dude, don't suppose you know the spec of the vac hose for the regulator do you? Think that sounds like a good course of action, I will change the vac line and if I have no joy change the regulator itself, I tried to remove the regulator today to take a look at it but I couldn't get it out, I'm sure with a bit more time it will free up though. Thanks for all the info mate it's a real help, I'm back to work tomorrow but on nights so if I can source some vac hose I will give it a go. Cheers

So I've tried to make a little more progress today with regards to the non running issue however my father passed away on Friday and this has caused me too loose it a bit, fill my van with unleaded and then fall down the flat stairs so all in all it's been a bad few days! Today I managed to put weight on my ancle so I made the effort to get down to the garage and have a look at the fuel pressure regulator vac pipe as recommended by a few people. It's been a lcouple of days since I attempted to run the car so I didn't know what to expect, now there is no actuall wet fuel in the vac line however there is a strong smell of fuel when I sniff the line so I presume fuel has been present..... Also the vac line looks fairly badly perished so I presume this could also cause me an issue?? Below are a couple of pics, one of the regulator and one of the vac line to make sure I'm looking at the correct thing..... Any more info on this issue anyone may have would be great. cheers.

Si Thanks for all the info above, I managed to fall down the flat stairs yesterday so I'm not particularly mobile at the moment but I did manage to drive down the garage and take a look at the vac pipe for the fuel pressure regulator. It's been a lcouple of days since I attempted to run the car so I didn't know what to expect, now there is no actuall wet fuel in the vac line however there is a strong smell of fuel when I sniff the line so I presume fuel has been present..... I have a very strong smell of fuel after cranking the car over, before this started to happen the car used to pop from the exhaust quite a lot and always smelt like it was running rich..... I have not tried all of the plugs for smart just cylinder one and it was good and strong, it's sounding to me from what you have said that it could well be the fuel pressure regulator, when I removed the plugs they were wet with fuel so I'm presuming in this case I'm getting too much fuel?? I will check the vac pipe next time I'm looking at the car. Cheers ---------- Post added at 8:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:42 PM ---------- Also,it won't start with full throttle, it sometimes tries to fire but it dies with a pop from the exhaust.

Thanks for the info. How do I check the rotor arm and distributor??
-
Well I think I may have answered my own question about the non starting corrado, I only checked one cylinder for a spark and presumed the rest to be ok but after taking a look at the coil pack it is cracked so I'm presuming I have no spark on some of the cylinders. This would explain why it tries to fire then fails in a sort of rythmick order....

Well I'm clutching at straws now with the vr6 starting issue so I need to source a fuel pressure regulator to try on the car to try prevent it flooding when trying to start up..... Does anyone have a regulator going spare before I head to the dealer and get bent over?? Cheers
-
Had another go at getting the car to start today but to no avail. Its turning over well and I pulled one of the plugs out to check I had a strong spark and it was strong enough to give me a good belt, pulled all the plugs out and they were soaked in fuel so it would appear the car is over fuelling and flooding when trying to start up..... After giving up for the day on the starting issue I decided to take a couple of brave pills and have a go at machine polishing the bonnet to see if I could delete some of the swirls and other marks and here are the results. If anyone has a clue as to what is causing my starting issue I would appreciate and advice....is it possible I have done damage to any pipe work or anything when I put the engine back together??
-
I need to check the rest of the plugs but the one I checked had a strong spark. We managed to get it fired a few weeks ago by turning it over constantly, at the moment it feels like it wants to fire up and catches now and again but just can't hold it

Im having an ongoing issue with my vr6 It tries to start and turns over strong but won't fire up, the aa guy managed to start it a few weeks ago by turning it over for ages after cleaning the plugs and said he thought it was the blue temp sender causing flooding. I changed it today and cleaned the plugs etc and tried again with no joy. It appears that it's flooding so I'm not sure what to look at now. Any ideas? Cheers Rob

Well today I decided to show the corado some more love as I had a free day so I snapped a few more pics to document my progress. First up it was time to sort out the shoddy looking door handles. First up a pic of the handle before I started. Then a good rub down with 1200 wet and dry. Now time for a few thick coats of poorboys natural look (I lay it on thick and allow it to be absorbed between coats and I love the results) I did both sides with this method and the aerial base. And now onto today's main event, the irritating rust bubble on the arch. A quick pic of my amazing paint booth. A pic of the arch before I started the work. The fan heater was used to keep the paint area warm duruing painting but was turned off when actually painting. Then get rid of the rust with the dremmel and some wet and dry (pic was taken before I was finished rubbing down) Get the area well masked up. 3 coats of primer were then applied and rubbed down with 800 wet and dry between coats. I then applied several coats of paint to the area rubbing down with 1200 wet and dry between coats. All of the masking was then removed after the paint had had plenty time to cure and the area was rubbed down and polished to blend in the old and new paint as well as possible, it's not perfect but it's good enough for a short term repair. To finish off the day I got all of the satin black parts out and gave them a good polish now the paint had been given a few days to cure properly and this was the result. Thanks for looking and as always all comments good or bad are welcome Rob

Yeah it's great on everything the poorboys

I considered doing that but I had issues painting a few parts that have been treated in the past so decided to do this, the results are spot on so I'm happy.

Got a little more work done today, I say little as its such a small change most wouldn't notice....... I decided to sort the black roof strips out as they were no longer black. Before pic, looking pretty shabby and in need of some love, you can see how badly damaged the outer surface is in the first image. So gave the strips a good rub down with 800 then 1200 wet and dry lighty lubricated with water and this is how they looked. Still some minor pitting but much improved. Next up it was time to treat and protect the strips, I used chemical guys natural look applied liberally and allowed it to soak in, this was done 3 times until the strips could not absorb any more and then they were buffed up with a clean cloth. I'm pretty happy with the results although I might have another go with the 1200 to try lift a bit more of the damage out. Obligatory pic of what I regard as the best plastic, tyre and interior product I've used.
