Hi Kev hows the Corrado going? Do you still believe that you can attain the 320 bhp mark that you hoped for at the start of installing this engine? Or are there limitations that you've reached that you think that can't be passed? Cheers Alan
-
Quite right and don't forget the Granny Tax and the drop in tax that the top earners pay. This as been a total shambles from the start aided and abetted by the Government to distract the press away from last weeks budget.

Wow I thought this build thread had died ages ago. Nice to see it back on track. Keep up the good work this is one of my favorite build threads. Alan

Went out for a family meal yesterday and parked on the pub car park was a 16v in sherry pearl (I think). The pub was the General Elliot in Croft just outside of Warrington. The first spot in ages.

Hi James I cant help with your search for knowledge regarding DAB radio but I have to agree with you comments about Manchester Rock Radio changing hands. I feel there as been a huge mistake by the radio station in question and that a massive opportunity has been missed regarding the playlist. And Planetrock as made the same error. Its too limited and if you have listened for any length of time (and I'm sure you have) you get the same tracks being played over and over again. Even the shows presenters must be fed up listening to the same tracks by now. When it first came on air I couldn't get enough but now I only listen in when my Ipod's battery as died on me. Rant over sorry to hi jack your thread. Cheers Alan

Priority is to get a fridge in there fully stocked up with your favourite ales LOL. -
Hope you get it sorted mate and its something simple. Problem is though it will be in the back of your mind all the time you go out in it. Can you trust it never to do this again? Good luck Alan

Hi Diarmaid I went upto Dumfries last September to buy a MK4 R32 and on the way home on the A75 I spotted a Corrado and gave a flash might of been you if there aint many about that neck of the woods. Anyway back on topic your not mad. My Corrado was written of last March and I still miss it everyday. Enjoy it while you've got it mate. Cheers Alan

Ouch my head hurts trying to take in them tables and graphs. Top marks though for not only having the mechanical nouse but also being able to use the software to get the engine running! What goes on in the background is amazing when you think about it. Alls I'm bothrered about is putting my right hoof down and getting going lol. How are you finding fuel consumption now you've got a few miles under your belt? Cheers Alan

Can't you speak to the parents and get them to pay your access? Don't forget that your next insurance quote wil be higher maybe they could compensate that as well. At least you wont be worse off financially. Gutted for you BTW.

It'll buff out LOL

Totally agree with Jim regarding the tyres. From a personal point I,m nearly in tears looking at that turn around as my Twilight Violet was very close to that finish and mine is no more. Brought back some happy memories though.

Another fan of the Rocco. It looks amazing. Bet you feel real cool driving around in that. Alan

I'm sure you'll hit your target you know what your doing. I just love the attention to detail thats gone right the way through your build. The engine bay looks superb after the loom clean up. I do like the way in which the R32 delivers its power at the bottom end theres so much grunt compared to the 12v but theres nothing there at the top end!! Its like setting off a rocket with no explosion at the end. It does dissapoint on that front TBH. I guess its down to having a relativley flat torgue curve? I do miss that surge the 12v gives at 4000 rpm and the engine noise that comes with it. Maybe your tweeks will resolve some of this? Fuel comsumption isn't that bad really. I managed an impressive 34 mpg on a recent motorway trip doing between 60/70 mph I wasn't in any rush and I can achieve around 27/29 on the 7 mile trip to work. The Golf is a heavy car around 1500kg IIRC compared to the Corrado's 1300kg again IIRC. Hope you get it going soon looking forward to seeing this finished Alan

Wow I've missed this I dont normally go on the owners thread. Just read from page 28 and I'm amazed at your skills. Gutted your engine blew up but its a nice opertunity for you to get that R32 lump in. Have you in mind of what numbers your going to achieve for HP and torque with the cams etc? I went to a rolling road day at Awesome GTI over the weekend with the R32 owners club and some members managed to get 280 bhp at the flywheel and around 310 ft/pds torque with mods such as yours + miltech exhausts. Here are some results. Mk IV R32 Scaniadub 280bhp ! and 283lb/ft SieB 252bhp and 310lb/ft Craggle 260 bhp and 293lb/ft FrankieR32 253bhp and 289lb/ft Wilkymk4 253bhp and 291lb/ft Cheers Alan

I used to take mine to a small place called "Just VW" in Piele La, Haydock. Ths guys name Is John give him a ring on 01942 722 022. He's a cracking mechanic and knows his VRs inside out. Might be a bit far out for you though. Cheers Alan

I hope it's something easy to fathom out. When my car went down on power it sounded the same as normal but was more show than go even Mr Ford Focus would keep up with me. Do the easy stuff first then think about getting a compression test done. cheers Alan
-
The lack of power could be loss of compression in one of the cylinders. I had the same symptoms as you describe. Hope its not though and its something that is cheaper to solve. The engines are prone to bore wear in cylinders 1 and 6.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. It makes me feel better knowing that there are people out there who appreciate a nice car. I've not even joined the R32 owners web site as of this date lol.

^^ Thanks wy906. It does attract quite a bit of attention on the road even from other R32 owners I might add. ---------- Post added at 09:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 AM ---------- ^^ Thanks wy906 it does attract alot of attention on the road even from other R32 owners I might add.

Your spot on with both observations Dan. They only produced 44 in Tornado Red. As for the seats they really are most uncomfortable. I can't get my head anywere near the headrest due to the shape of the seat. Theres a lump in the seat were my shoulder blades rest so I just put up with it. ---------- Post added at 11:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 AM ---------- Thanks Andy I will take you up on that offer sometime just be prepared for a little tear in my eye! ---------- Post added at 11:04 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:01 AM ---------- Thanks mate. Even getting hold of safety parts is a nightmare such as the brake position sensor for the ABS. Although I think someone on this forum does a repair job. ---------- Post added at 11:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:04 AM ---------- Cheers Digger. Really put in a lot of effort this week on the paintwork and it looks even better now. ---------- Post added at 11:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:06 AM ---------- Thanks Jim. Been out and bought some front brake discs and pads for the R. Just a small matter of 450 quid. That hurt alot. Alan

The thing which is grating on me right now is that normal "maintenance" parts are becoming obsolete for the Corrado which just takes the pi$$. I asked about the VR6 rad at my local TPS... "sorry, no longer available". I know you can get aftermarket rads, but seriously.. its a RAD... and its Corrado specific ffs!!! arghhgh (okay, rant over) lol That was one of the reasons why I dedcided to move on. Parts a getting more difficult to get hold of with the only option available now being from cars that are being broken up. I like driving the R and its a real head turner but I'd rather be behind the wheel of a Corrado but I decided to move on to something a little more modern with much better safety features as my partner broke two ribs in the accident with the VR. One major negative with the R is the lack of engine noise I miss the sound of the 12V under the bonnet. I real shame. Alan

Hi Andy think I saw you yesterday driving up Kingsway around 1500 ish. The C looked very nice indeed. Alan
