just a quickie: im currently fitting my new brakes to my VR6. iv brought ap racing 4 pot calipers with 304x28 discs. they told me they fitted fine. the prob is the discs are touching the ball joints. im not sure why?iv been in touch with the suppliers but now i got to wait for a response. is anyone else running the same set up? if so am i missing something thanks
-
cheers toad heres the prob the hole in the black plastic bit is smaller then the cable.(i cant pull it off either) can i heat that up so it expands or did u mean just cut/melt the end of the old cable off? i dont trust myself with a blowtorch lol
-
i am in the process of changing my brakes all round so i thought i might as well change the handbrake cables as well. heres the prob: hw do you remove them? i have unbolted them inside the car from the handbrake but i cant pull them through the tube they run in. what am i doing wrong? its prob something simple but i cant see it. there is a black stopper on the end of the golden tube that comes out of the car(sorry for crap explanation and no pics)but i cant seem to move it.is that whats stopping me. someone on here must of changed there cables, hw did you do it? thanks

depends what bushes your talking about but it requires supporting the engine and removing(or lowering at least) the front supframe. not a nice job im afraid. prob worth changing all bushes if your gonna do it
-
are you sure its not the speaker itself? try swaping them over left to right and then see what its like

iv just checked on the thread as im about to start my pod builds so where are the finished pictures rich?

the wonders of ABS :D thanks for the replies. i didnt realize the kits could be so expensive. pay for quality i suppose. it says the kit is for a G60.i suppose it will fit a VR6. i will give him a call tomorrow has anybody used bigbrakes4u.com?

hi i ordered some 4 pot ApRacing calipers and a rear disc conversion from 'Godspeed Motorsport' in december last year. well they haven't turned up and im now getting a refund leaving me 4 months behind on my project Heres the question: Where can i buy 4 pot ApRacing calipers from? Can someone recommend a place that is reliable and that will deliver the goods. i dont want to this order to go wrong again also does anybody know a place to get the rear conversion kits as well? i was going for 300mm disks instead of the normal 288(overkill i know but i wanted it to look even) thanks

car looks good Kris. love the location of the shoot as well. is it your front garden? did she reverse into it deliberately? i would of shot her just in case she had :) the c has got some tasty mods. i particularly like the door handles, i might look into that myself i look forward to seeing it with the new wheels

are you really 16!?! you got a bigger set of balls than me to take on a project like this. the tread is amazing and im loving your work. i wish i had the space or courage to take on something like this. i bet the feeling after working on it is amazing good luck n keep it up are you picking it up as you go or are you a mechanic in training?

hi Mawrick i used hammerite Kurust on the rust spots.(its meant to convert rust to metal or something like that,it worked anyway) i then sprayed it with Hammerite Anti rust primer and finished it with a couple of coats of Black metal spray paint got it all from halfords and it wasnt to expensive just a bit time consuming hope that helps

Iv been a little busy lately and my beloved VR6 hasnt had much attention. poor girl. that is all about to change(hopefully) I finished off the sub frame. i got arms like Arnie now after all that sanding  minimal spots of surface rust needed to be treated then i resprayed it this is the finished result n im pretty pleased how it turned out i got new engine mounts(ouch!! VW really stings your wallet) then re fitted the subframe. not the easiest job in the world but i got there eventually. also fitted new ARB and wishbones with powerflex bushes but i will talk more about that when i take some pics more to come
-
what about rear passengers? i think i might just try them and see what its like. i will run the front components off an amp and the rear 13cm components off the head unit it should sound just right then and it will be a nice evening project :) other than the hours spent on the car at the moment  i brought some second hand supports for a tenner so if it doesnt work i can put the old ones back
-
so you all think its a bad idea  sourcecars have made some amazing cars junkie(not practical but still good) you are all saying rear speakers are not needed. does that include 6x9's? or would you regard them as just supplying bass? im confused, i always though of music being staged throughout the whole car. i obviously have got a lot to learn :(
-
im getting some AP racing pot calipers with 308mm discs the wheels are 16x7 they would clear the calipers but it would be tight at the bottom(3mm) the wheel offset was changed slightly to compensate. wheel offset is et30
-
im thinking of doing a different speaker build aswell. if you think it will be a good/worthwhile idea then i will try it and post up a build thread the idea is to fit a set of 13cm components on the rear parcel shelf supports it would require a fair bit of work and some slight adjustments to the rear shelf but it should still look pretty standard when its finished. What do you think?
-
thanks or the concern Go-Rado but yep i am supporting the engine. calipers were already off so that wasnt a problem thanks for the advice james i got the subframe off no probs im just waiting for some warmer weather so i can spray it
-
at last some progress: 5 bolts needed grinding off but i eventually removed the front subframe in one piece  i was so happy last night when i had finished it. now im going to cover it in gunk and see if it needs any rust treatment i have painted the rear calipers but need to get some pics of them to post wheels have now def been order(only needed to move them out 5mm to clear the calipers) 14- 21 days turn around is a long time to wait though :(
-
i might start my door pods this weekend. i think i might add the tweeters and crossovers to the build as well. i was taking the interior trim out of the c today and noticed that there are tons of storage spaces.. spaces that can be filled with hidden ice  make sure you post up pics of when they are fitted rich
-
cheers james. you make it sound easy i know the 4 13mm bolts your talking about.once i undo them will the steering rack just stay where it is or will it need to be supported? are the engine mounts easy to get to?
-
im in the process of removing the front subframe on my VR6 and need help. its turning out more complicated than i expected :( i have removed bolts on both sides(the engine is supported by a brace atm) i still need to remove engine mounts but not sure how to do this. how do i disconnect the engine from the subframe? also if i want to completely remove the subframe what else do i need to undo? it looks like the steering is attached :confused4: i have searched the forum but cant seem to find anything on this. i dont think theres anything in the knowledge base and i cant find anything in my manuals help please :?

Smart idea rich. love the stealth aspect and it takes up minimal space. top job do they get hot at all? what are the amps running?

£250 for audioscape door pods seems well expensive(but also worth it in a funny way) is there many places that sell them??
