2CC, the switches just plugged in- no soldering. I didn't replace them myself- the local garage ordered them and put them in, and if I remember rightly, they used to work when the door was shut (all be it intermittently!). The fuse blows only when the switches are operated, not when the door is opened. The passenger window can be operated only when the driver's door is open. The alarm still shuts the windows when the doors are shut. Starting to look like a damaged wire isn't it?

2CC, the switches were dodgy when I bought the car so don't know how long it's had the problem for. The fuse is fine with the reverse lights, but blows when you play with the windows. Also you can open and close the doors over and over and the same thing happens every time. :? Could it be something to do with the alarm which is total closure? Cheers

cheers matey, I'll give it a go.

Ooh, the joys of owning a Corrado.... Replaced my knackered switches today, but the windows only work when the driver's door is open! Could this be something to do with the interior light ? :? Also the reverse light fuse has blown for the second time in as many weeks.... I'm stumped, my local garage is stumped and the local alarm place said it almost certainly wasn't an alarm problem. Any ideas? Thanks

Done a few things to the car in the last couple of months: Magnex exhaust Passat handles K & N/removed snorkel/drilled airbox removed the 16v badges Swapped the colour coded Corrado badge for a new silver one Changed the chrome VW badges to black ones Gotta say, I'm pleased with all of them. The Passat handles are a real must- really easy to do (cheers Ant!), cheap and more secure. They look better too. Airbox is a must too (Jim!). Bit of a bugger getting it out, but all in all pretty easy- the car feels more responsive and the sound is phenominal! V. impressed with the exhaust too. Hopefully the lights will be tinted this week, and I'm gonna colour code the grill when I've got time.

Pity you don't live near the seaside- I've heard the old breadcrumbs on the car trick works a treat! Pecked/scratched to bits and covered in seagull sh*te!

Corrado spotting (old one from 2003 - dont use!)

Roofracks usually spoil the looks of a car, but the one I keep seeing actually looks quite good! You can imagine it driving around with skis or something similar on top 8) -
Iceman, Try looking on the Corrado Club of America website- there's a detailed description of how to tint the tails. Also try a search in the Corrado forum on VW Vortex. I think the spray in America is called Nightshades or something similar. Hope this helps.

No worries, mate. Looking forward to it whenever it is- you'll be able to have a good listen to the airbox as well 8)

 Te he- sorry my avatar is so confusing! Seriously though Ant, thanks for the help with the handles- much appreciated!

 Just cut a little bit off the rubber edge. Talking of events Jim, any news of the CCGB rolling road day at AMD?

Been seeing loads of C's around Canterbury lately. Overtook a black VR6 last week along the dual carriageway (he just couldn't keep up  ) Black VR6 with nice red brake callipers parked around the corner from my house. Red C parked around the corner this morning. Also keep seeing a black VR with a roofrack. Is this any of you guys?

Got my filter in the post today. Fitted it after work- what a b**ch to fit! It's almost a cm longer than the stock paper filter, and there was no way of getting it in, so I had to cut one of the edges off. Thankfully it's in ok now. Gonna drill the airbox at the weekend  Nothing's simple with a C!

Check the intercooler for oil. You should be able to reach the intercooler from behind the front passenger wheel, if your hand is covered in oil there's a problem. You may find a tiny amount of oil in the charger inlet- this is normal. If there is a lot it may mean the seals have gone in the charger. Having the charger rebuilt is a must and should give you at least another 50-60K, before needing to be done again (Stage 4 rebuild would need it sooner). However, you are still buying an old car, which is producing a lot of power so things may still go wrong. The charger on my old G60 was fantastic, it was everything else that gave me the problems! Don't let me put you off though 'cos they're brilliant cars and worth the odd problem. I'm sure there's a lot of people running G60's who get very few probs.

Munkay, welcome to the forum. Sounds good value, but as it hasn't got complete history I'd get it checked out by a VW specialist first before parting with your well earned dosh, failing that the AA or RAC. If you decide to buy, I'd get the charger done ASAP, as strictly speeking it should have been done 20-30K ago! Check the door handles, sunroof, spoiler, all electrics, shocks. Check for oil leaks in the engine etc and check for stained carpets/mats/seats that could indicate a water leak. If you're in any doubt, don't be scared to walk away. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Cheers for the advice everyone! Corradog60s, thanks for the number- mechanisms are on the way for about £30. Ordered 2 new handles from VW for £40 (less vw parts club discount- should be 10%). Is it pretty much a straight swap? Do I just take off the old mechanism and bolt on the Passat one? Any fabrication required? I'm fine taking the door cards off, but will be a bit lost after that! Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Cheers guys- Passat handles it is then!

Jim, was hoping to get a VR in the summer, but am probably gonna buy a house instead (hopefully prices will drop soon :? ). It's a case of priorities....sod the house, VR6 it is then!

Just checked out Euro Car Parts and they have a 'lock pin' available for £3.00. Couldn't I just change this?
-
Crap! Thought as much!
-
My handle broke last night- something (the pin?) went when I tried to open it. It's still intact and looks OK, and still opens from the inside. Do I need to replace the whole thing :? , or can I just replace the inside parts? Cheers
-
Hopefully getting it checked this week. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse, but I want it checked for piece of mind!

Here's mine: Nissan Sunny 1.6 16v (quite nippy!) Mini City (was my Grandad's- I later wrote it off  ) Pug 306 2.0 ST Sedan (faster than you'd think!) VW Corrado G60, chip and pulley  8) Honda Civic VTI, powerflow twin exhaust  a bit boy racerish though VW Corrado 2.0 16v, Magnex, K & N soon 8) :) Dunno what I'll go for next. Guess it will have to be a VR6 so I can get it out of my system! Other than that an S3 or an Impreza would be nice

Did the eyebrow spoiler on my G60 with Halfords plastic primer. Rubbed the plastic down with wet and dry paper (800 I think) first, then several coats of primer. Rubbed that down with more wet and dry, before applying several thin coats of VW paint. First coat was sprayed horizontally, second vertically etc. Then VW clear coat to finish. Did the job and looked thoroughly proffessional if I do say so myself! Hope this helps!
