Unless anyone can suggest a good alternative, I'm after a coilover C spanner that I can borrow for a few days next week or if you have one lying around you don't need any more perhaps you could send my way? I know they aren't expensive to buy online but I really need it in my hands before the week is out but if I don't get a response here in a couple of hours I'll probably order one online somewhere as I'm running out of time. Cheers.

Interesting. I work in Woking just up the road from McLaren HQ, too far away to see anyone famous though, boo!

thats a nice post you have attached to that giant add!

I wondered when someone would suggest ad-blockers. I use one, but then I also subscribe so I don't feel so bad (not that I would ever click one anyway unless it was an accident). -
How do you know this?

So, inspired by Alex's member thread, I have decided to centralise all my 'to-do' lists so you lot can read it and I can keep on top of it. My Corrado has pretty much been off the road for two years now but in 2011 I AM going to get it sorted! I will do a second entry with the history of the car later in the week, and I will include some pictures. I am going to try and be organised by sorting my list into sections, I'm hoping I can group them together so that all the bits in each group will be completed at the same time. So here we go: Section 1 - Starts 7th March New front tyres New suspension top mounts Fit coilovers (need to source a C spanner!) Oil & filter Air filter Spark plugs Coolant change Charge battery Investigate exhaust leak (probably down pipes) Run VAG-COM diagnostics Free drivers side central locking (stuck locked) Section 2 Find & fix coolant leak Check CV joints Check wheel bearings Check all lights Check earth straps on bonnet, throttle body, and gearbox Check vacuum pipe to ECU box Check power steering fluid level Check clutch fluid level Clean the idle valve and throttle body Fit new window rollers Strip out factory alarm Install headlight switch fire prevention fuse kit Gear box oil change Section 3 Fix windscreen leak Reinstall interior Section 4 (Brakes) 288 front brake upgrade Mk4 rear brake upgrade Braided hoses New fluid Check handbrake operation Check brake lines for signs of damage or corrosion Check rear break compensator valve is operating correctly Section 5 Tint rear lights red Buy and fit rightclick keyless entry system Grease seat runner, door handles, door latch Section 6 (Stuff on the list with no time scale attached - misc items) New filler cap gasket - 535 862 287 New ignition switch New fuel pump, crank sensor and coil pack New rear tyres Fuel filter Lupo or TT wiper upgrade Get spare key cut Check Opertation of Spoiler and lubricate with a dry teflon based grease Check Window operation and grease guides if needed Check Sunroof operation and condition of seal, and drain holes Check Underseal (under car) Check plugs 1 and 6 periodically for oil fouling Slacken the serpentine belt and spin the tensioner pulley, checking for stiffness Check serpentine belt for cracking and splits Listen to the gearbox side of the head for chain slap noises Periodically check the lower half of the front engine mount for splitting Buy and fit audioscape door pods - General audio sort out I know that some of these jobs will take two minutes whilst others will take hours/days and the list will obviously evolve over time but it's a pretty good starting point. If anyone is wondering, a few items on this list came from the old servicing guide in the wiki. Thanks for reading.

Put your location in your avatar...might get some customers :D

Hey Alex, That's a long list, but imagine how lovely it will be once it's all done! I have a few lists lying about as well (scraps of paper/spreadsheets and so on) but I think getting a list here in a central location is a good idea! Glad you have decided not to sell it, fitting a dialysis machine is much better idea anyway! Ollie

This is the same for me. I'd rather pay £55 to someone I trust do check my car is safe. I'll happily get anything fixed that isn't safe but I HATE the idea that places like (but not limited to) kwik-fit will tell you that you need X amount of work done and even then you can't be sure that the car was correctly checked for safety anyway. I don't know if this kind of thing really happens, but for £20 extra I get piece of mind.

Something I have noticed a lot online (mainly at DW) is that everyone always asks about (and provides examples of) burning through paint; ie - going through to primer or even metal. I will agree it is hard, even with a rotary you would have to be really dumb to do that. But burning through clear coat is MUCH easier and the end result is just as bad. It looks dull, feels horrible and takes the protection off the paint as well as being incredibly difficult to repair. I myself once thought that only a fool would bust through the clear coat, but I managed it with a DA and I was being very careful. It only takes a thin patch you don't know about and you're through, so for anyone doing others peoples cars, perhaps just bear that in mind. :) (Especially when doing German cars as you are likely using much harsher pad/polish combo's). The main draw to a rotary for me is definitely the speed. It took me weeks to do the whole Corrado (one panel each time I washed it) but there are plenty of threads that show a whole car can be done in a day with a rotary. But until I get a PDG I'm not risking it.

16V Corrado on Pistonheads - Oettinger ?
OllieVR6 replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Ebay and Misc
Nope. It's an after market kit. Minging one too! EDIT - It's not even the full kit, that's just the grille (the worst bit!). -
I don't think anyone is suggesting Kev isn't smart but it really doesn't take much to burn through paint. I burnt through the clear coat on my VR twice with a DA (one was me being an idiot, the other was just plain unlucky patch of thin clear coat). Luckily it doesn't look to bad but it can happen. Also without knowing how thick the paint is, it's better to play it safe especially if you are doing other peoples cars. I want to upgrade to rotary but not until I have forked out £200 odd for a PDG.

Which one did you use? I want one for my car.
-
Haha yeah, if only that was my biggest Corrado issue!
-
Here is a 50/50 I achieved with my DA:
-
Kev, I don't want to sound patronising but have you considered a dual action polisher instead? Unless you have something to practise on I would recommend using a DA for a while first (I've had 2 in the last 2 years and still don't feel ready for a rotary). It simply allows a bit more room for human error and still provides very solid results. There are plenty of us on here that frequent detailing world so I'm sure someone will disagree with me anyway. I've done the whole Corrado once with the DA and it took a very long time, but I was happy with doing it that way rather than jumping right in with a rotary. Shame your not closer or I would offer to lend you my DA to have a go.

And this is exactly why I don't 'race'. I should probably just stick with the Clio daily :D

Hi all, I'm trying to sort out my alarm and related parts as I'm not happy with the current state of it all. With the car ('94 VR) I received, 1 key with a transponder (I opened the key to confirm), 1 alarm fob and 1 immobiliser 'token' labelled 'Autowatch'. From what I have managed to research it's all factory fitted kit and tbh past it's best and so it's time for a refresh. As I understand it, the car came with factory central locking and full closure. The alarm is the wired in to give remote keyless central locking, and an immobiliser was installed. I am going to strip out the alarm (I think it's a scorpion 918) because as far as I can tell, it can no longer be serviced, and I'll probably fit a rightclick kit to keep the remote central locking and full closure. I also need a new key (for a spare) but from what I can tell I have to go to a dealer and pay a lot of money to get it coded due to the transponder, is this right? What is the difference between the transponder and immobiliser? Is that not like having two immobilisers installed? The immobilizer fob looks like this and without it on my keyring, the car doesn't start.

I like this a LOT!

I thought the advertising campaign for the new Skoda Fabia VRS was brill. I liked how they took the advert for the normal Fabia and made it fit around the VRS.

Hi Andi, I did click that expecting it to return me to 'normal' but it just takes me back to the home page but still in mobile view. And as an extra test I tried this on Chrome, FF and IE9. -

Hi Andi, This just happened to me, in my thread in Drivetrain. I didn't notice the first couple of times, so there are probably three 'pending' posts (only one needs to be authorised). Cheers.
