1. Thanks Stewart, did you ever get the dragster running?
2. I have a fish tank for sale which is 18 months old. Its located in Essex. I had planned to put it on Ebay but If theres any interest I can post an add on here. Please let me know
3. Here we go at last the car is ready to start. The last few bits are fitted (see below). I have had the car running with the OMEX startup map and its drivable. Tuning and proper map next. 4. A bit of an update.... This is my cut down distributor. As the Omex system uses a coil that does not require a distributor the old one has been cut down and capped to fill the hole and drive the oil pressure pump. This picture shows the boost pressure sensor and part of the new wiring loom More of the same... New air temperature sensor. This comes from Omex as a threaded unit. An alloy converter was made for the sensor to screw into that had the same outer dimensions as the old VW sensor. For those of you who are electrically minded here are the wiring schematics:- Omex Install Electrical.pdf You may notice that the ISV is controlled by a solid state relay driven by an output from the ECU. This is because the OMEX ECU cannot drive this directly. This has been tested by OMEX prior to this install and works ok. More later.....
5. I was aware of the TPS fitted to the auto model but I thought it would be hard finding one. That bits done now so no worrys. I would say that mechanically the hardest bit is the crank sensor but I have a plan and will post the outcome soon as this is underway now.
6. For info here is a picture from the Bentley manual showing the ecu piping connected to the throttle body Page186.pdf I do also have 2 spare ECU's which I plan to sell at some point if you are interested.
7. Have you had any of the vacuum hoses off at the back of the throttle body? There are 2 at the back of the body, if you get them the wrong way around it cause the car to smoke.
8. I have a similar setup to you but not a big valve head and was fed up with the difficulty in getting the car mapped as it was a case of writing a chip, doing a power run, writing a new chip etc. I was never happy with the results so now at least with a modern system it can be tuned more easily.
9. I have started to install my OMEX ECU system and thought I would post my progress so far. I have started the wiring and the ECU has been mounted in the glove box. I have also started to mount the sensors. So far the brackets have been made for the TPS sensor and I have just started the bracket for the crank position sensor. I will update this thread as I go along The wiring has started Throttle position sensor Throttle Position Sensor Throttle Position Sensor Crank Position Wheel Omex Info.zip
10. I will take a red one as someone has already asked for the silver one.
11. I will take a G60 one if there are any left.
12. Great to see there is an active VW scene in New Zealand. Each time I have visited my family there the roads have been littered with Jap crap!
13. Look forward to seeing the progress of this build. Good luck
14. I have got a spare brand new one as I ordered 2 by mistake. Let me know if you are interested.
15. Yes its really simple. Just mount the intercooler and the hoses fill the gaps and support the new pipe. I ordered black hoses as well and they still sent me the blue ones so this may be worth checking.
16. I have the same setup and use a alloy pipe and silcone hoses from Bar-Tek Germany http://www.bar-tek-tuning.com/lshop,showdetail,16717,en,1344959129-17022,schlauchkits,2160040,16,Tshowrub--schlauchkits,.htm Here it is in the car:-
17. Yes I have found that in the past but had developed an "understanding" with the parts guy. Sadly hes moved on and I don't know the new guy very well. My Scirocco is in for service tomorrow so they are going to add them to the service bill so I should have them when they drop off the car
18. Still available from VW at 37p each. The really annoying thing is the parts department will not order them unless I visit and pay for them first!
19. that looks very good, where did you get it from?
20. I have been trying to purchase some black stud mounted cable ties. These are the ones that screw onto a threaded stud and secure the wiring loom to the bulkhead. I am having no luck finding an online supplier. Anyone got any ideas??
21. I am just about to start the install of an OMEX ECU on my G60. The wiring, connectors and that sort of stuff is not an issue for me but I have a couple of mechanical questions. 1. I have to fit a TPS (throttle position sensor) to my throttle body to replace the two switches that are currently used by the standard ECU. Has anyone got any advice on where and how to mount it? 2. I have to fit a 140mm slotted wheel to my crank pulley for the crank position sensor to work with. Has anyone got any ideas on how this can be acheived easliy. The part supplied only has a 20mm hole in the centre. TPS picture attached.
22. I had the same problem and ended up changing the subframe. I must have spent the 40 pounds the subframe cost on gas drill bits and other tools! 2 new bolts from VW and all sorted. Plenty of copper ease when reassembling. The trouble was my car had been kept in a muddy field by the previous owner so I think this did not help.
