Car looks great! a huge amount of work. Well done. I really like the wheels you have chosen (both sets) 😎.

You will be fine to use them, its only surface pitting. To fully remove the rust pitting, will take bit of work. I would be tempted to get new axles with the CV's. Save they haslte of trying to clean them up. As if you dont remove all the pitted rust, then it will just come back through the paint.

yep, as CF Nutter says - You need to use 360 degree fuel clamp. Jubiless are not allowed in motorsport for fuel systems, It will be the same for automotive.

Progress has been slow. Another area complete..... back to bare metal. With rust thats on the underside of the car, it takes about 8 applications of the DEOX Gel to remove it. As gravity ends up fighting you.

Car looks so good, thanks for Sharing Chris!

Looks great, you will have to show us more pictures .....

Hi all, Looking for some wisdom as to where I could possibly buy a new 16valve rear axle. As far as I know the rear axles are different on the VR6 and the 16valves. Someone with infite more knowledge may correct me..... I would rather buy a new one than recondition.

The big issue I have with the powder coating is the prep work - how well they blast the items. Back in the day. I grit blasted my own front subframe, it took a lot of work with the grit blaster to remove the pitted rust. This was a industrial grit blaster that was the size of a room. I then Zinga ( Zinc based paint) painted it, primed, then top coated. On a properly grit blasted surface, the Zinga adheres really well, recomend it. The powder coating will also be good, if the surface is prepped properly. I reckon a lot of places will only give rusty parts a light blasting.

A spot of spring cleaning down the sill, since I have access.

Slowly making progress ...... removing all the rust with the Deox Gel on the underside. Gravity is not in your favor so it takes about 7 goes with any steel that is pitted. If you want to remove all the rust.

thats great! such a good build thread.

I got the tank return lines replaced. Also removed all the rust and paint off the metal filler neck and painted with an enamel paint.

thanks Matt and Cressa, I think I will have spent more time on my back underneath a Corrado, than driving one!

Making some progress. I have been having sucess with the Deox-Gel to get back to the bare metal, I even managed to get some primer on in a couple of spots! slow progress....

thanks Chris! its good to get inspiration. Ah, almost neat.... my mixtures measures are getting stronger each time - seems to be better for getting the stuff off. Yours looks great, nice work, I bet it was a good feeling once it was done.

thanks ChrisL, if you have any other products/ recomendations - I am all ears! I am currently using a brass brush the size of a toothbrush and srubbing the underside with the Surfex HD, then wiping with sponge kitchen scrubers.

Hi all, Had the vehicle for 13 years this year... sitting in a storage for about 10 years, I hadn't started it in 6 years. Some fresh fuel... and it started first turn of the key - couldnt believe it. That decided the fate of the car - it had to be kept. I now have the space to work on it again. My plan is to get the whole underside sorted, fix all the rust and clean the underside ... it is proving to be a big job. These cars are very well undersealed from factory, but with the dirt and moisture in the UK and if its not cleaned, its inevitable.... rust The bits of rust that I am not cutting out, I am treating it with a rust remover. Really recomend the Bilt Hammer Products. Surfex HD for removing all the grime on the underside, you mix this with water as per your requirements. And the Deox-Gel for removing rust. I am putting the Deox-Gel on multiple times to remove the pitted rust. Its gonna be a long road to get this all cleaned up, and new metal put in.

Matt, I have found a source in Poland for this spring. Are you still looking for one? I could order you one, there are like £10 each. I have to send it to Germany, and then to the UK. They only deliver to Germany. I have a mate in Germany who could forward it on. If you want one let me know, and i will try and order an extra..... see how I get on, they say they are in stock..... Thanks Matt, I may have to use a spring website, and see if I can match the OEM spring geometry to another. If I find a replacement, I will post it up here, for others to use.
