Hi Neal, Apologies for the late response, I forgot I asked this. Did the panel come off OK? Do you also have the plastic beading from the headlining? Cheers,
-
Cannot comment on whether this is a good idea, but Deox is an expensive way of buying citric acid, apparently the main active ingredient (the rumour is that it is citric acid and wallpaper paste!). You can buy citric acid powder very cheaply and make up your own de-rusting solution. A useful guide (MS Word format) is available to download HERE. I have mainly used vinegar but am shifting to citric acid.

Very scary! Well done Andi, especially having a backup. Which reminds me...

Looking for the internal sunroof headlining panel, with the surrounding plastic beading for the hole in the headlining itself, for re-trimming/painting. Thanks

Hi Paul, Many thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree on the encapsulated type as it seems that many of the windscreen fitting issues may be due to the trim and seal arrangements. FYI, the Broad Lane Company has gone (Auto Windscreens); now puts you through to a call centre in Leeds to a firm who bought the name but operate on a mobile basis only. Lots of redundancies and Simon was one of them. It seems that Simon *may* be working for a distribution company opposite the old Broad Lane site, but looks like he no longer does windscreens. From asking around, it seems that there are two possible alternatives in Sheffield for quality work: Marvin, who owns Yorkshire Windscreens on 07961 028 383/0114 286 9083, or Bee Windscreens (http://www.beewindscreens.co.uk). Have spoken to them both and they are both happy to do the work provided I bring the car to their works. They will not do a Corrado screen as a mobile fit (which I regard as a good thing). Marvin's problem is time: he does a lot of garage work (e.g. Gilders) and could do a Corrado if it could be left with him over a weekend, because of the time it takes. He has done a few before so is aware of their characteristics. He is also a national award winning fitter, apparently. Seems like a really sound bloke. The quote above was from Bee's. Well established family firm with a very good reputation in the trade. Unphased about doing a Corrado ("tricky but not an issue"). Going to see them next week to talk about having one screen re-fitted (to get rid of the whistling) and a new one in the other car after the glass-out respray. Will let you know how I get on. Cheers, Andrew

Just had a quote from a respected local family firm for fitting a new Sekurit screen. £250+ VAT for an encapsulated one, or £200 for separate trim. With the encapsulated one, the hard trims are pre-fastened like a goal post. From a fitting point of view, the firm has no preference. Can anybody shed any perspective on this? Is one type preferred, bearing in mind the car is in original condition and I want it to stay that way? Thanks.

Having a big clear-out of lots of bits on Ebay. Mainly Mk2 parts on Ebay, most of them in as new condition and a few desirable bits. Also have a telescope, Ukulele and a Humax PVR. Have not got a shop, so look at this example and then select "See other items" to list them all. Most items have 99p start, no reserve, no Buy-It-Now. Am happy to package up heavy items for your courier to collect. Example: Hella smoked rear lights - as new

Thanks for that on the discs. That clarifies something I thought I had read about offsets, hence the question in my original post. So if I keep the offset calipers and use Mk 4 288 discs, they will not foul on the Speedlines? I'll also need new wheel bolts as the Compomotives use spacers. The part-ex offer is very kind, but I am keeping the 312 carriers. This is just a temporary change and they will be going back on at some point. But I'll give you a shout if that changes. Cheers, Andrew

Many thanks. That's very helpful. From a quick look on Ebay, late Mk3 VR6 set-ups seem to go for about £50. Cheers, Andrew

I currently have a 312 front brake set-up using calipers etc. from a TT 225, all sat under some 16" Compomotive MO's. I am looking to put some 15" Speedlines back on and am not clear what I need to do to drop back to 288. I have done a bit of reading but am not clear. Is this just a case of the following, or something else: 1. New disks (Golf Mk3 VR6 or Mk4 228's)? 2. New carriers (again, off what)? 3. New pads (Golf Mk3 VR6)? Would I need to change the offset on the calipers by removing the washers which are on there now? As you can tell, I know nothing  Cheers, Andrew

I miss the old way too. I really liked three things. I found the exchanges educative; it helped me learn the right questions to ask. I learned about the sellers (and buyers) from the way they asked and answered questions, which helped build a sense of camaraderie. It also added to the 'club' feeling where, by and large, enthusiasts were selling to other enthusiasts. The new system lacks all of this. It just seems pretty sterile to me and if it means that people are no longer selling on here but using Ebay, I think we are all the poorer for that. "Bring back the old, bring back the old, bring back the old...."

I asked the Dealers a couple of weeks ago. £38 but obsolete anyway.

Thanks Tom. How much posted to Sheffield for them all? I might be able to pick them up at the weekend, though, if I end up going to pick some wheels up 'darn sarf'. Cheers, Andrew -

I like this idea. Some time ago I came across this guide but have yet to do anything about it [build your own ramps].
