  1. My first car was a '72 Hillman Imp at the tender age of 18 back in '86, Cost me a pint - 68 pence!!!!! After that had an Astra Estate (cheap), an XR2  Got myself a brand spanking new 16v Corrado at 22. Sold it to get married at 26, Mk 2 Golf GTI 8v (nicked! ), then Golf Cab Advantgarde, Pug 306 GTI-6, Fiat Barchetta, (with a Mk 1 Golf GTI at the same time). Saxo VTS  Now 36 and back with a G60 C :D   And they are still brilliant handling!
  2. Check this site out. It has got some good gen and reviews on it http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/frames.htm
  3. In that case probably 7 mm. Same as on the Golf. (Also not in a 'cheap' set of allen keys normally!!!)
  4. Thanks for the time estimate though. Got to get loads of jubilee clips and a few new pieces of pipe too. Even noticed that brake reservoir pipe was slightly worn - god the engine must have been rocking some to do that!! Good job I had the front engine mount replaced. Put in a trimsport uprated wiring loom in instead this afternoon - I can see!!
  5. Yeah thought it was going to be a bit of a pain. Not the half hour job like on my old 8 valve golf. :( Noticed a few hoses are a bit worn, which was one of the reasons I didn't start the job! How do you clean out the ISV?
  6. Hi folks, What is the best way to change the cam cover gasket on a G60? Had a look today and there is so much stuff connected to the cover. What needs to come off etc? Most of the jubilee clips are the factory style Thanks
  7. Supersprint exhaust is a nice quiet uprated exhaust but if you take the intake cone out of the air filter box you get a seriously meaty noise! The cone is designed to slide out just a bit stiff Bonus about the mod is if it gets too much just put the cone back in!

    eibach springs!!!!!!

The guys at Stealth recommended Konis with H&R springs
  9. Hi, I'm trying to decide if I've got a dodgy fuel gauge. MFA on average reads 30 MPG on my normal run to work. 30 miles all but about 3 on fast dual carriageway/motorway. Average speed 80-90 Costs about £30 to fill up from the red zone - 12 gallon tank. After about a 100 miles gauge reads half a tank!! Get about 50 miles in the red and still do over 300 miles to a tank. Car has recently been serviced, complete with plugs and Charger refurbed to stage 4 but figures/gauge reading haven't changed. So is this normal? :?: Sure it wasn't like that on my old 16v but that was nearly 10 years ago now!
  10. I'm gonna go. Not too far from my folks and another excuse for a free feed!
  11. $1600 Ouch! Almost £1000! sounds like you got a good deal. Stuff from europe must be a tadge more expensive over there then.
  12. Oh well, obviously got duff gen when I rang about prices but bit about de-cat is pukka
  13. Go on then, upset us all and tell us how much they cost in the States.
  14. I rang Awesome the other day ref exhausts. I tried AMD first as they were nearer but they didn't know which model would fit. The Miltech catalogue lists G60s from '92 on. So they gave me Milltechs phone number to check. Milltech weren't sure and gave me Awesomes number! The Milltech one is only cat back and that was approx £360. If you wanted to do a de-cat then it was approx another £50 and the de-cat pipe would be a Supersprint part. If I remember correctly total price was around £410. As the de-cat was Supersprint I plumped for the whole Supersprint system, which is approx £50 dearer. Stealth are fitting it on Monday for me, provided it arrives tomorrow!
  15. I used this company http://www.caralarmuk.com/ Came to my place of work and fitted it. Look at the special offers too!
  16. Whatever you do, DON'T spray your disks with WD40. All you will do is knacker your brake pads!!!!!! You will only get a light coating of surface rust on the disks, which will come off the first time you use your brakes.
  17. Volkspeed bought out/took over a lot of the parts Autocavan used to make/sell. When Volkspeed stopped trading from the Garage in Bentley, Neil started to do a limited amount of work from home. Neil recently serviced my car, replaced the cam belt and sent the charger off to Jabbasport for refurb. At the same time he also fitted one of the indestructable Volksport front engine mounts. They aren't cheap though!! About a £100. If you are interested in one I'll PM Neils phone number.

    Please help :(

Get the Bentley manual off the Amazon.com website not Amazon.co.uk! Cost $101 inc P&P and takes about 1-2 weeks to get to you. Costs approx £70 then instead of £90+ Thats what I did

    Bonnets

Bally, I was in the RAF in Germany in '91 and bought a new RHD Corrado from a German dealer. It still had the pre-face lift bonnet on them. As some of the others mentioned, the bonnet has probably been swapped at some point. Incidentley, if you had bought a Corrado from a German dealer, just about everything was an option. You could get an uprated alternator, uprated battery etc. Heated washer jets, aktiv speaker system, full size spare etc etc etc. Even the first aid kit and warning triangel were extras! The standard car had a sunroof and windy up windows but still had electric mirrors!? The dealer helped us out by telling us how to up-spec them to UK standard. Oh, and just to make you lot green with envy we used to get them VAT free. Cost just over £12k for a 16Ver when they were over £17k in the UK!! Ahhhh... those were the days!!
  20. Hi folks, whats the difference between the pre and post face lift bumpers? Can I fit a post face lift one to my pre face lift C? If so what extra bits would I need to get. My front bumpers got a bit of a dink in it (nothing major) but still looking at replacing it. Any info is greatly received.
  21. If you're thinking of uprating your engine why not drop one of the later 20 valve engines in. Volkspeed did a few - complete with a dizzy. Saw their 20v G60 Golf Rallye. Looked sweet. Supposed to be cheaper than a rebore etc as well. As I mentioned on the forum yesterday, Neil from Volkspeed is still working albiet from home. He was thinking of dropping one in a C.
  22. Thanks for the info folks, will try the stealers first when I get back from the Munich Beerfest next weekend! eine prosit, eine prosit........hic!
  23. Hi folks, for info Neil (ex-Volkspeed) is still servicing VWs but now from home in Camberley. :!: He is also setting up a mail order business for parts etc. To contact him use the old Volkspeed telephone number and it will re-direct to his mobile. He's sorting mine car out at the mo :D
  24. Hi, looking for some decent car mats. :?: Tried a few in Halfords but they don't fit. :? Looked at the justmatz website and seen the postings here. Are they worth the money or does anyone know of a decent alternative. I have none at the mo (not long had the car) and the carpet is getting into a bit of a state. Thanks Tattie
  25. I think the sliders are the same as in a golf. If so and IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY you can just replace a bulb. The sliders will just come out with a bit of a tug, prise off the fan speed knob and then that bit of the facia will come off with a little persuasion. Remember to disconnect the wires to the fan before you remove it completely. You should see a little black bulb holder, just give it a twist and it will come off. Bulb cost a couple of quid max.
