Hi mate sorry you have problems. Basically if the crank sensor is duff you wont get any sparks so as you had sparks this morning perhaps rule that out. If yours is a dizzy engine, the coil should have 3 wires to it, one is the trigger from the ecu think its white. This won't pulse if the crank sensor is broken as the ecu won't be getting a signal to know when to fire. Pull the fuel pipe off the injector rail, turn on the ignition and check you get fuel out. It will be under pressure so be careful it does not spray in your face, least then you will know its not the pump. Pull the lead from the coil to dizzy and check for sparks. There are ways to check the coil but i can't remember the figures for resistance across the terminals. I would check the trigger wire for the coil first, if thats not working its probably either the crank sensor or ecu. Also check the ECU relay, and fuel pump relay, on the fuse box as they are a common fault and fairly cheap and easy to change. You should be able to hear/feel if they are switching when the ignition is switched on. The crank sensor can apparently sometimes collect metal particles which can mess the readings up but when i pull mine out it was okay, and even though it looked pretty knackered worked fine so i left it. I had running problems for a while including random cutting out which i think were signs of the coil on the way out. Good luck, if you have any other questions just ask and i will try and help.

Spotted one dark rado on the A29 northbound today around midday. No sure what flavour as just caught a glimpse out the corner of me eye. Seen more since mines been off the road than in the time i drove it all the time.
-
Drove my rado daily for about 18 months and then once its off the road being stripped out i spot a black one less than a mile down the road in ingoldisthorpe. Very shiny, looked like it had been treated to a sunday pampering. Not sure if youre on here but might stick a flyer on it if i see it again. :D

Thanks will have a look. As there are no takers for my car i will begin to strip it out shortly for a track day in december hopefully. Be good to see how it performs compared to the likes of the saxo's and mk1 golfs that are about. Cheers Jez

Disastrous Clatter From VR6 - tensioner bolt causes rebuild!
muppetlab replied to MikLSP's topic in Engine Bay
Jeez mate thats some bad luck. Was it the same Garage that did the clutch etc first time round? If they have rebuilt an engine to that extent i would say its down to them to make sure its thorughly checked over before starting work. If they forgot to check something the blame can only be all theirs. Hope they are going to sort it out for you as i would be going mental at this point :bad-words: -
Hmmm really. Makes me wonder why no one has shown any interest in my car then. Might be a Black leather interior for sale soon then or maybe someone will buy my car with a view to swapping the interior. I am beginning to like the sound of a stripped out vr6. Dont supose anyone has any idea how muh weight i could lose by scrapping all the interior and sunroof and other bits i dont really need?
-
Considering selling my VR but dont want to give it away so am thinking if i strip it out of some bits i might be able to keep it in storage for a while until i can use it as a track day car. Can anyone tell me what sort of money i could expect for a black leather interior with all panels cards etc? I could probably get rid of a few bits such as the posh wheels and coilovers and sunroof and other bits i dont need and nearly get the rest of the car for free and still get to keep it which would be nice! Any advice welcome. cheers

Thanks i have liners which i bought when i discovered mine were missing. Then i discovered the reason why they were missing was that they wont fit as the suspension/wheel combo i have means there just aint the room plus with the rolled arches i can really see how to stop the damn things flappin about. The price you pay for being low i guess. Nevermind will just have to save my money for mods that are outside the box, nitromethanol injection anyone
-
Hmmm so no liners equals wet filter, not good. Will have to look into other solutions.
-
I am looking at supercharging my Vr at the moment but the thing that stopped me was during the recent rain storms i thought about where the filter might be. Turns out its right down the front near the wheel with the vf vortech kit. I dont have arch liners due to wheel coilover set up and am very concerned that the filter is doing to get a good drowning if i drive through more than a small puddle. Do people have problems with this, is there a solution? Does anyone have any pics of the filter in situ, i guess its pretty much where the charcoal filter is from what i have been told. Thanks for any replies. I will search this thread but its a bit of a monster to get through.

After the tap with a spanner it seems fine, idles perfect now. So will leave well alone for now and try and get a spare isv for when it packs up for good. thanks for the advice.
-
Having got rid of the crappy plastic damper a while ago, my isv is playing up. I figure its stuck open cus its idling way high and pulsing but if i squeeze the pipe from the intake shut it idles fine. I did give it a knock with a spanner which seems to have helped but its probably going to give up soon. My question is what difference will it make without it? My other idea is to run the oil breather to the inlet where the isv would have gone to stop the throttle body getting oily? Can anyone comment on these ideas, and wether it wont run without the isv as i have squeezed the pipe shut and it still seemed to idle okay probably the best it has for ages? Cheers

Silver rado just outside brancaster norfolk today. No one around but looked in fair condition. After not seeing any for months i see two in two days..... :D

Green Vr in Wroxham today, would have waved but in my mates ford :? looks like it needed a clean :norty:
-
Green, rado, well planted standard and tidy looking in gaywood this morning. Not sure what flavour but bad some sort of number in the rear window, maybe you have been on a strip :D

You can try a touch up pen and then machine polish after a week or so when its dry to get it nice and flat.

Get a 2nd hand engine with a known history. Might be cheaper than spending on chains and head/valve work -

Sticking valve?? Had my car off the road for a few weeks and when restarted it sounded like a cross between flying to bits and a diesel engine. Soon went quiet though, but to be honest my engine is not the best so i dont really worry about it. As you say the noise was rythmical i would guess valve gear rather than chains which would i think be more constant. Good luck hope its not too expensive. -
I bet its awesome quick  Wait let me see, i wonder if he will take a vr6 Rado in exchange. If it is quick it will be because all the plastic and switch gear has broken and fallen off and is in his garage thus saving weight, and what with a ecu remap the power to weight ratio must be equal to the likes of a Ferrari or Porsche!!

Tis all dat text speak int it, wos rong wiv propah english or int dat tawt in da school know mor? Are people really too lazy to spell properly these days or do they want someone else to do that for them as well :cuckoo:

Knocking when pulling away or stopping ...
muppetlab replied to UseOnceDestroy's topic in Drivetrain
Might be brake pads moving slightly in the calipers causing a knock. They move forwards against the caliper when you brake and then get pushed back again when you pull away. I second the engine mounts although thats more noticable when pulling away i found. Also loose cv joint can make a similar noise. Mine made a terrible noise when it threw a couple of the bolts into the gearbox and tried to seperate itself from the car! Good luck. -
White rado opposite qe hospital this evening, kings lynn. nice and low and crystal rear lights, not close enough to wave but glad theres finally another about.
-
Steering column obviously trying to get to ignition wiring to hot wire or bypass alarm/imobiliser. No idea on the seat belt, bit odd that. Was it dismantled or broken from force. Maybe used the seatbelt, to force the steering column some how??? Hope its fixed soon

After all the replies i think i am going the traditional route, i just cant make the figures work, and with the extra expense of mapping and potential rebuild the supercharger just isnt worth it on my car. If the engine was good and the gearbox maybe but i can see it doing to much damage to an already frail old girl. Not to mention the insurance hike. I have other projects that demand my time and money so will have to put it on hold for now. Once the VR is my 2nd car i think a complete strip and rebuild is in order including maybe sc or turbo, but thats a few years off. Thanks for all the help but i have been scared off now. and am saving my pennies. :D
