Had a similar problem with my vr. Would buck under acceleration but not constantly and could never pin point an exact senario. Replaced loads (plugs, leads, maf, sensors etc. by chance replaced the throyyle postion sensor on the throttle body and reset the ecu. Problem solved. Not sure if thats your problem but may be worth checking and a cheap second hand fix.

Will be pricy though. i ran twin webers on an 8v mk1 and it aint cheap, inlet manifold not too bad if you can wait and find a second hand one, but if you want twin webers you need either 40 dcoes or 45's, they will need jetting and the chokes getting right, and too be honest the MPG is going to be poor, twin performance carbs chuck fuel in. I'd guess if you can get some good deals on second hand bits maybe cost you £400-600, you dont want to know what new prices would cost!!! But the the induction noise is so sweet you wont care you are only getting 19mpg!

Is your Corrado the most unreliable car you've ever owned?
muppetlab replied to Jay2's topic in General Car Chat
MY Vr has never let me down but its certainly testing our relationship at the moment. Trouble is its high milage and bits wearout especially as its my daily. But i am looking at it through different glasses now. "As a Classic" It needs love and attention. Okay bits need replacing and it annoys the hell out of me sometimes, but on those days when its all working fine its the best drive in the world. Stop at any traffic lights and watch the 9-5ers in their modern company executive faceless computer designed safety bubbles and be glad that you are driving automotive history in what is arguably the best handling car Vw has ever made. Sure any one of them could afford it, but have they got the balls to own and drive one. I am proud of my car. Okay its not the tidiest, and its a bit worn but thats classic car character for you. Just the smell when i open the door and get in makes me happy as i cross my fingers and turn the key praying that today wont be the day it decides not to start. The Corrado will achieve cult status in future just as the MK1 Golf has. Just be happy that they are under the radar at the moment and so therefore affordable. -
1st for me. I toyed with a plate but the original on the car ends FVW so thought thats pretty cool anyways. Best i saw was on a honda NSX when they were all the rage, read H1 0N HP

Are Febi Oem parts then??

I am not saying people dont do it but legally its the registered keeper and the new registered keeper who sign the V5. Anyone can write what they like on the V5, but if you sign as the registered keeper and you aren't then you are potentially comitting fraud. I dont really care as i have done similar in the past. Just playing devils advocate :norty:

Hi there i am no expert but on my vr the water light is a level light not a temp light. It indicates water level in the header is low, which i guess yours is as its pissed it all out the overflow. Cant see why this would happen unless it was overfilled it will expel the excess, but as you say it was over heating/steam i would guess its too hot or pressurised. Could be that the fans are not cooling as they should so check temp senders, fan control module, fan motor and all wiring and sender switch in the rad. Or its head gasket leaking and pressurising the cooling system? Just ideas as like i say i aint no expert. :)
-
Technically i think its the keeper that signs the V5, The owner and keeper can be differrent as in the case of a lease where you may be a registered keeper and responsible for fines etc but not the actual owner. Cars can be bought in other peoples names but i guess if you are signing as someone else that maybe fraudulent. Cant he just take his mom along once hes found one to buy??

Trouble is the dealer could not tell me what brand the sensor was, so it could be the same as the ebay one or maybe the eurocar parts ones for £60 odd, and you are just paying vw premium on top? Are the aftermarket ones that bad?
-
Yep fleabay here i come. Poor dealers must be feeling the pinch what with the recession and all. Have to make money somewhere i guess. I dare not even ask them how much fitting would be
-
Just been quoted £143 for a rear abs sensor from a vw dealer, they are having a laugh surely? Or is this the normal going rate at stealers these days? Was prepared for maybe £70 but not twice that. Looks like its a pattern part for me i can get 5 for that price and replace them every few months and still be quids in. Crazy :cuckoo:

Just replaced my rear discs, pads, bearings and mk4 caliper upgrade. Did each side a day apart as its my daily and had a bitch of a job stripping the old stuff off. Had a problem with a soft pedal and suspect there may be air in the system possibly of maybe thats how the MK4 calipers make it feel? Anyway its pulling slightly to the nearside through the rear brakes (not the front as its not felt through steering). Wondered if this is because one side has an extra day to bed in or wether its more likely that there is air on one side and not other? What do people think? should i swap the pads over? Have covered about 300 miles since fitting so would assume both side should be bedded in pretty well  thanks
-
I will stick with it. Did 200 miles in it today and the abs light comes on intermitently now so i reckon its a cheap sensor thats at fault. Buy cheap buy twice as they say. The brakes are okay apart from pulling to one side at the rear  They actually work quite well and stopping is good its just the pedal travels a lot more than it used to, and i am not sure if thats the mk4 calipers or if i have still got air somewhere in the lines. Will try and bled the :censored: again tomorrow. Going to try and get a copy of vag com for my laptop so i can plug in and see whats what. Buggered if i am paying Vw dealer to do that!! Have thought long and hard and i either sell it as is very cheap, break it or keep it. Selling it cheap is not an option as i have uprated suspension, big brakes and it has good spec leather etc so i want to keep it. One option might be to strip the interior and sell bits and just keep it as a track car but would rather use it every day. Might just bite the bullet and put it into the garage and get them to sort it. I know i would miss it if it was gone so it will stay in one form or other, just need a years mot ticket on it.

My Corrado is dying/preaching to the converted
muppetlab replied to Madjackal's topic in General Car Chat
Know the feeling i am having the same dilema. Break it and potentially get more for it or sell it whole or just bite the bullet and sink another grand into it and enjoy it. It is hard when bits keep going wrong but thats to be expected from a car approaching 19yrs old. A classic some might say. That being sadi i have owned old cars before mk1's, bmw e30's and to be honest they were no where as much of a drain on my wallet. But i just keep thinking that i keep replacing all these bits that went wrong, surely at some point it m ust work properly! Good luck what ever you decide. -
About 5 years ago i claimed for a buckled alloy, damaged tyre and suspension damage from a local council after hitting a crater on the entry to a layby. They paid the full amount including labour and the price of a new audi competition alloy from the dealer Probably harder these days as most of the roads are :censored:
-
What exactly gets knocked as i think this happened to me. I only set the tracking the other day but i did hit a pothole and now its worse again, does it bend track rods?
-
Right, well i spent best part of two days stripping the rear brakes and replaced faulty sensor. Fitted MK4 calipers, new pads, bearings, discs the lot. Bled all 4 corners, master cylinder and abs pump. My pedal is now rubbish, spongy as hell but can get the backs to lock up. Initially the abs light went off but when i got annoyed and did an emergency stop the abs kicked in then the bloody light came back on :censored: Restarting the car the light has gone off, is this normal?? Would air in the pump cause a fault to light the dash abs light? Are Mk4 calipers bigger pistons because i just dont see why the pedal is so crap. It was hard as rock before i changed the calipers. Wish i had not bothered now. Really pissed off with the car as i am shattered from working on it outside in the cold and snow only to find its worse than when i started. Almost had enough and would get rid of the damn thing if it had not cost me so much that i will never get back if i sell it whole. Dont want to break it but thats what i am thinking now/ :mad2: Any help someone please??? Just tell me the pads need to bed in and the brakes will be spot on and i can sleep happy. Tell me i need a new M/C or that my abs pump is buggered and there will be one more corrado in pieces before long. Typically the mot is next week and its my daily drive. If i have to get in the works van because it cant pass then i dont think i will have the motivation to sort it. Gutted as i really liked driving it and it was a teenage dream of mine to own one. Everyone told me VR's were money pits but i think i must have been deaf as it seems they were right. :pale:

vr6 plug lead removal tools for sale (metal type)
muppetlab replied to zerocool's topic in Suppliers Forum
Received mine yesterday. Quality item and fast delivery. Many Thanks. No more ruined leads for me!!! -
Bypass it. I used a nice shiny piece of silicone hose for extra bling. Its only there to "dampen" the noise from the intake has no performance effects at all i think except when they fail then they might leak and cause problems. I probably have one laying around if you really want to replace it. yours for the price of postage.

Pretty easy on my vr. Undo the three bolts under the front to reveal the bottom of the mount. undo the large nut securing the mount. Jack up engine slightly to take the weight making sure its on something solid (not the sump) undo the top mount bolt from the top of engine bay and remove old mount. fitting is the reverse of removal as they say. 30 min job if you have all tools to hand. good luck :D

If the mot man knows his stuff its a fail i am afraid. Light should be on and then light must go out when started etc. Some turn a blind eye if the lights disconnected depends how friendly you and the mot man are
-
As has been said before they are a bit dated but handle fairly well. I've had both 8 and 16v but prefer the torque of a 8v. Get another Rado man. They are way cheaper to buy than a decent golf mk2 and a lot more unique to those in the know  Performance wise i wont go back form a vr, but i could be tempted by a mk2 vr6 8)

Great just what i need. Can you pm me payment details. Cheers jez -
Thanks for the info, hopefully might have sorted mine, have traced faulty rear sensor and plugged new one in and light went off. Yet to see if it stays off once fitted properly and rolling. Fingers crossed as Mot next week. On the plus side i am fitting the mk4 calipers and new pads and discs to the back whilst i am there so hopefully nice new rear brakes. Cheers

Nice and tidy white Rado spotted parked up down norfolk street, kings lynn tonight. Caught in traffic so could not stop but took me be surprise to see another one in town. who ever you are. Possibly the same as the one spotted at cookes fakenham today????
