1. Hi Tim, yeah they're obsolete mate. Mine is off a different model but it fits great. I'll dig out the part numbers and pm them to you
2. Some more progress... This was the under bonnet when I got the car Not too bad, but a few broken/missing clips and frayed wire on show - nothing stood out being really nice. Slowly been sourcing and replacing anything I could to tidy it up a bit. This first picture is after the broken engine plastic was removed, revealing more frayed cable covering Next is after wrapping in self amalgamating tape Then the others are showing the new plastics fitted, the new battery cover fitted, and the bay cleaned of all the dust and polishing compound left from the re-spray Looks much better now on close inspection - just a couple more things to do in due time...
3. I'll be parked up with the Club GTi Manchester lot but I'll come over to see you all. See you there
4. Sorry it's taken me so long - I was working Friday night and had a wedding to go to yesterday which I'm still recovering from. Gareth, they built it all back up for me so all I've got to do is give the inside a good clean. Here it is when I picked it up (phone camera so apologies for poor lighting) Took it home and gave it a quick wash and wax Here are a few close ups of specific things Ive changed Glass sunroof New roof strips Colour coded handles and new door scrapers (and side mouldings removed) Colour coded grille And lastly, all red rears and goss black number plate panel Overall I'm very happy with the work they've done. They did have the car for well over a month but I can't complain as they have done such a good job. It was well worth the wait! They even masked off everything underneath so there is no overspray anywhere. Let me know if you like or dislike the changes Cheers, Kev
5. Picked my car up earlier today - had the body shop fit the moonroof for me and it looks great. It was the Passat B3 Estate version. Here's a couple of pics of it...
6. Been waiting ages but fianlly had the phone call today to say the car is ready  Gonna pick it up tomorrow afternoon. I'll get some pics up soon as i can. Kev
7. Lol this would be the only thing I'd change on this, so glad you mentioned it. It looks superb mate, like it really means business!
8. Well I was looking at the GT TDi's but they seem to be going for silly money - because of the cheaper running costs. But I decided I'd go for the 4Motion because what I save on purchase I can spend at the pumps and have a more enjoyable daily drive. I don't do enough miles to make enough of a saving to own a diesel so this was actually the sensible option lol
9. I gave £2800 for it off a guy I know who owns a service station called Volksmaster. They know everything about VWs so I didn't mind paying slightly more than the average asking price for similar age ones for sale. He'd just done a load of work on it to make it near mint so I've picked up a bit of a bargain I think. I knocked him down from £3k but only cause he knows he'll still make on the car when I get it serviced etc.
10. Thanks Jim! It drives great. Took it for the test drive in the rain and I couldn't believe the grip it had. I like the subtle looks too - it's been de-badged so it doesn't look anything special but it has left a few chancers in their Corsa's and Saxo's eating its dust lol
11. Got myself a MK 4 Golf 4 Motion to replace the Focus as my daily. It's Black, 3 door, and overall is in very good condition - every panel is super straight and I can tell it's been well looked after. It's a 2001 model and is all standard for now - no big plans to change much really as its a huge upgrade as it is. Here are some pics after a wash and a wax... The wheel caps are the only let down really, suffering from the usual corrosion, but soon to be replaced... Let me know what you think. Cheers, Kev
12. Deal! Cheers Kip I'll send the docs over when I get them. I'll get working on an article for you soon as. Hopefully I'll have the car back soon to get some up to date pics included :D
13. Spent best part of a week on the phone to various insurance companies and filling out countless online quotes, but I've managed to get the Golf insured with Admiral, whom I was already with. At the start of the week they wanted £2700 off me so you can imagine the response they got, but after a load of hastle, eventually getting to speak to the right person, I've got that down to £1600 - still excessively dear but it means I can now have the Golf as a very nice daily and the Corrado as a summer / show car thanks to the classic policy offered by Peter James. Just goes to show, if you persevere with these people, and insist on speaking to somebody higher up, who isn't just capable of reading what's on screen in front of them then you can get them round to your way if thinking.
14. Interesting stuff Yan. No need at all for one to be £200 and another to be £1000 for the same cover. Still it gives me hope that I can find a cheaper quote than £1400 for this Golf I'm after. Cheers for the info. On a side note, how do people come up with a figure to get the insurance company to agree to? I ask because I have just guesstimated the value of mine to be around 6k, I've not had it valued or anything but I know it doesn't go off what you've spent on it or I'd be insuring it for double that lol ---------- Post added at 09:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 AM ---------- Kip you little beauty I just rang Peter D James and they'll do the Corrado for £350, £6k agreed value, mods declared! I owe you a pint mate
15. Haha nice one Paul. Wow £260 for 10k agreed value. Sounds like the opposite of my quotes lol. Same score for my dad though - same address etc. he's only paying half the price for 4 vehicles than I'll be paying for 2. Cheers for the advice though I'll definitely give them a try.
16. Great stuff cheers Paul, that seems really low. I'll give them a try in a bit and report back
17. Looks like I've finally sorted getting the Corrado onto a Classic policy thanks to Footman James. Almost gave up trying after a load of agro with some of the others...Chris Knott (my postcode), Flux (the type of car), Brentacre (my age), Lynbrook (my age) etc. I'm currently on an Admiral Multicar policy, which has had it's ups and downs. Wasn't prepared to pay the renewal price this time, but thought I was stuck as I needed either a multicar for both cars or classic for the C. Footman James have very nicely done an agreed value of £6k pending photos to prove for a very reasonable £570. Might sound high to some of you but consider this: I'm 26 live in Manchester 5yr NCB Protected 1 fault claim in last 5 yr 1 non-fault claim in last 12 months Non-homeowner Admiral wanted over 2k to insure both cars (up by over £300 from last yr), and they will only pay out current market value - not an agreed value, mods are not covered etc. I am going to view a Golf V6 4Motion on Friday that is hopefully going to replace the Focus 1.8 zetec, but Admiral have quoted me £1400 for that. Tried Footman James for it but they can't cover me on non-classic cars  Anybody any ideas who else might be worth trying - I really want this Golf but I'm not paying £1400 to insure it... Been on Go Compare but not much use - cheapest was £1280 but some unknown company. Not too keen on that idea. Thanks, Kev
18. Slight saving if you get some from here... http://www.veedubmachine.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=101_103&products_id=251 it's where I got mine from. £112 + VAT - £141 total. Gone up a bit since I bought mine though...
19. All sorted thanks to Dragon Green They're obsolete but still available here... http://www.vwheritage.com/ Thanks mate
20. Got 'Em! Thanks for showing me the way mate. Really good tip - I've saved those sites to my favourites. I just did a general search for 'corrado' and only 13 items showed up but these werent there. Would have been so much easier with the part number. I really must get hold of ETKA.
21. Cheers Kip, I thought about taking a hairdryer and a wallpaper scraper with me and having a go myself rather than let them use a heat gun on it. Might stand a better chance of survival that way.
22. Thanks mate. That's the great thing about this forum - there's always people willing to help you out I've learnt so much over the last year because of all the problems I've had to overcome with the car. But I'd sooner do without the knowledge and own a trouble free corrado, if such a thing exists lol
23. Lol nice one Matt sounds crazy but as long as it works thats all that matters I guess.Cheers for the tip
24. Thanks Kad that's the best option I think.Cheers for the link mate. Bit pricey but they do look ace and hopefully my original ones will survive.
25. Hi guys, The bodyshop have informed me they are likely to break the plastic trim if they attempt to remove it for the respray and have asked me to supply replacements. Rang the dealers to check availability and wouldn't you know it, they're obsolete.Couple of people have said they've had success removing their own but they changed from early to late - late ones being much thinner and more awkward to remove. Just wondering what people think I should do - have them masked off and sprayed up to the trim or have a go at removing them at the (apparent high) risk of damaging without being able to replace any time soon? Has this been a common problem for people having resprays before? Thanks
