Good luck :) -
Does anyone else feel like rebooting their life?
Portent replied to Portent's topic in Off-topic Chat
I promised a reply so thank you for everyones comments. To answer a few questions and points, I am cerrtainly not too proud to make a change. Many years ago I found I wasn't happy doing something so took a much less stressful but more enjoyable job and got myself out of management. But over the years I've crept back up to a responsible managerial role again and a similar decision is harder because of the family and mortgage commitments I now have. What do I do now? I run an IT support area looking after some of the trading applications for a large bank. The money is reasonable (no I don't get massive bonuses like the media say!) but the hours are ridiculous. For example many of us were working 15+ hours a day during the New York hurricane (we had to provide assistance from London as they were pretty much unavailable). Last Friday we had a big issue to fix and I was up at 6am, in the office for 8am as usualy but then ended up stuck there until 6am on Saturday... finally arriving home at 7:30am and ruining the weekend for everyone incljuding my family. This week has also seen frequent 12 to 14 hour days to fix issues. The pressure is constant - when someone makes a mistake costing hundreds of thousands of pounds then I've found myself having "interesting" conversations with people (one previous senior manager often called me up demanding someones kneck for a mistake - I'm pleased to say I didn't give their name out and that senior manager has now gone). I'm extremely lucky though; a nice comfy office job and reasonable pay and I do understand the point that some professions work even longer and the consequencies can be fatal if they make a mistake. Like I said, I count my blessings, appreciate how lucky I am, and the opportunities I have both in and out of work. I also mentioned I was ill last year and this is probably the catalyst for me looking at my kids and wanting to spend more time with them. It's all fixed now but I had a cancerous tumour removed last year, along with radiotherapy, and will have follow up consultaions for several years before being given the all clear (all looking good so far though). So now to the future... I've decided I have to change things. I don't know exactly how yet and it certainly can't be overnight. But in a few years I will have downsized and change my job. Life is too short (and I've already had a life threatening scare). I'm not at home enough for my kids and they are growing up without seeing me, or me seeing them. I will change things. -
I hate car parks!!! - 30th Nov Happy ending update!!
Portent replied to g0ldf1ng3r's topic in General Car Chat
I hate car parks. I always park very defensively and try to avoid parking between cars where possible, and always avoid parking next to something huge like a people carrier or something with child seats in it (I have kids and am really strict on how they get out of our car to avoid any issues). But on my old Golf I came back to a huge gash in the bumper despite the bumper being right next to a huge bollard; someone had probably dragged a trolley between the two and scarped the car - £££ of damage. -
Loev the mats. But the black ones are still available at trhe dealer for similar price and without the killer shipping unfortunately. Great for greay/cream though.

I have a Golf with the 2.0T engine. It's a great engine in a family car. But it has no character at all. I loved the 24v 2.8 V6 in my last Golf. 12v VR6 or 24v V6 would be my choice... R32 if possible.

Storm black leather heated front seats - price drop
Portent replied to matt59876's topic in Parts for Sale
Might be interested in just the heating elements if the rest of the seats sell without. -
Are they heated? That will indicate whether they are retrimmed cloth seats or not (leather had heating elements and cloth didn't). The door cards won't be original though as they all had the ribbed part.

Looks nice although I can't see the pictures too well on my phone. I'm afraid I don't recognise the registration. If the rust is just surface rusty on the top of the slam panel where the bonnet stay lays then is must likely to be fine. The mileage isn't low and so chain work may be needed at some point in the near future. But that can be said of any vr6 with any mileage really. The spoiler could beer one of many things from a relay to a fuse to a new motor needed (all available from people braking cars). No mention of the heater matrix having been replaced although at that mileage it must have been at some point. They aren't leather recaro seats however, despite what he says. They are standard leather seats. The only real down sides are the spoiler (fixable), relatively high mileage, and the fact he admits to driving 130mph in it.

Not quite... it's "storm grey". The "storm" refers to the colour rather than it being a Storm model :) Love the colour though. Storms only come in classic green with cream leather and mystic blue with black leather.

Welcome. Around 10 miles from me.
-
Depends how much rust and where it is? How many miles? What was the service history like? Any history of engine work? Do you have a link to the advert because it may be a car which is known on here. You're welcome to pop along to see mine as a general comparison. Mine isn't immaculate by any means, but certainly isn't the worst in the world either and it may give you a feel for what to look for. According to google maps I'm 23 miles / 50 mins drive away.

Oh you absolute git lol :D. Now I'm going to be watching these all night trying not to buy them.

NEC Classic Car Show 16-18/11/2012
Portent replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Same here. Got to work at 8am on Friday... didn't leave until 6am on Saturday. Totally wiped out my weekend so missed this one. Looking forward to the pics. -
It's great for ringing a similar stolen car.

Insured to be garaged overnight, but was in an alley? Insured at parents address but car actually owned and left at different location? Not insured at all?
-
Yes it did happen to be the first site I went to yesterday morning. But through the night I was still randomly getting it on this site only. I guess it could have been there and activated from before but I work for one of the biggest banks in the world and they are pretty s**t hot on malware and viruses. The PC's are pretty well locked down and monitored, with daily virus checker patch updates, etc. Everytime I got it, it was to say that mcafee had detected it and removed it. I guess it could be a false positive or something that got through from before though. I'm leaning towarfs it being a false positive.

Rumour has it that the Corrado window switches can also be used instead of proper seat switches. I've not tried it myself but that might be a cheaper option, albeit not original looking of course.

Finally finished the corrado, got a few issues

Welcome. Original chains and mk4 tensioner are the usual recommendations. Looking forward to a build thread :) -
A pic of the meet at Brooklands with all the cars lined up on the bank would be nice to include. I've probably got one somewhere if needed.
-
A lot of them seem to have that card. No idea why.

The reason I asked about the headlight look was because when I installed mine I forgot to connect it to the battery live at forst, and it showed the same symptoms; only one side worked. And yes - why did you fill the central locking with petrol????? There's a thread I found on another forum where someone has a similar, but non-petrol related, problems and how he solved it (checked fuse 14, door microswitches and eventually the drivers side pump): http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?p=98468
