Meets/Drives. Anyone on here bother ?
davidwatsonok replied to davidwatsonok's topic in General Car Chat
By "NoRice" I suppose it means anything non-jap. I was hoping to be more specific (without being snooty), but when is their next run. I might go for a look. I just don't want to find myself amidst a load of Nova/Saxo Burberry baseball cap wearing teenies. Oh dear, I think I might have opened a hornets nest. -

Summer sounds like a good idea, but it ain't. The roads are full of families and grandads in Scenics & Rovers pootling about at 4mph and plod get a little shirty about organised events, especially near any Bank Holiday. Winter is our time. Nice empty roads while all the bores are sat in front of the fire & telly. I'm just a bit restricted with work as I work weekend nights only, but I am up for any midweek jaunts if anyone else is interested. Hell, I'll even consider organising it. Anyone ????? -
I have a full Scorpion system on my 16V and when I first fitted it it was way too loud. Have a look underneath below the drivers seat, if there is no small box just after the downpipe ask Scorpion to make you one. They did mine FOC as it was while I was fitting, you're prob a little late but I can't see it being more than £60-80. Now purrs like a kitten at tickover and has a nice throaty growl when provoked without being too Nova-ish.

It's only a race if the lead car makes it so. Put a mature and responsible driver in front and he sets the pace, and insist on no o/taking. I know what your saying about cameras, and I have on the odd occasion sampled Scotlands asphalt. As soon as I get my Scoob I will be heading to Applecross to run Belach Na Ba (sp?), a drivers must up there with Stelvio and the Ring. Of course, you have to wonder if all those cameras are near schools, playgrounds, parks or danger spots, or are they just to collect revenue? B@5t@rd5!!!!!!! -

Leeds, W.Yorks. I think we are a little too far apart (Edinburgh). Although the northernmost Dales and the Lakes are about half way. -
The crystal replacements I mentioned earlier are available half red. That would be a tough decision!

Do any of you guys ever bother with regular meetings or drives out. Apart from organised events I haven't come across any on here (except Ace Cafe) and I just thought it might be pleasant to meet and chat to a few like minded enthusiasts. I regularly go on Subaru events and their calendars are possitively overflowing with fun gatherings. PS. I don't mean McD or B&Q car parks. More country pub, nice meal, little run on empty challenging roads away from cities and PC Plod.

Never understood why people buy a car they love the look of, then spend a fortune making it look like something else. The C is a classic, beautiful design that only benefits from minor, subtle enhancements. If you want this look then buy a Poxhaul Coarser and a copy of Lax Bowels and let's not see another rare beauty spoilt.

Ooops!

Do the guys on here ever arrange any meets or runs? The Scooby mob are very active, but it would be nice to catch up with a few Corrado owners before I move on. I'm in Leeds, so we have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to abuse.

I've only had 1 pull in mine for a tail light. Asked the loaded question though. "What speed does your spoiler come up sir ?", "28mph", lying through teeth.

Any bother from Plod ?

Oh, I forgot you asked about the lights. I'm not a fan of tinting but I've seen some crystal looks but at £320 I don't think I'll bother. That'll buy me a camera sensor. Much better VFM.

All the suspension is new O/E so I ain't changing it again (did a full job on every component that rolls/bounces on all corners when I put in the engine, clutch & 'box). The wheels are Fox6. Got a cracking deal, all 4 for £450 inc tyres. I'm not that impressed with them though, I buckled both fronts within a fortnight (Leeds roads are appauling).

I am the one, the only, the unique, and the not for much longer VW driving CORRADOBOY. Sorry guys, but the money will be available soon and I'm afraid I shall be changing marques. 246bhp and 4WD along with Jap reliability and handling every bit as good as the C is too much temptation to bear. Anyone interested in buying a '91 1.8 16V 100k (2k on new engine) with Cat1/Tracker full Scorpion S/S and K&N 17's in Vgood condition ? Ooh, by the way, no, I haven't removed the side strips. Colour coded the grille and h/light surrounds though.

I regularly attend Subaru meets (doing research for future purchase) and always get compliments on the condition of my '91 C. Some of those guys spend a fortune on Swissol/Zymol and are amazed when I tell them that the finish on mine costs just £5. I have always (and will always) used Simoniz Original. I've seen it side by side with these other expensive products and I'm afraid there are a lot of people being ripped off.

Don't know why I'm posting this as no-one has ever listened before on any BBS but, you might be wasting rather a lot of money on those fancy waxes. I was recently at a Subaru meet and one of the guys had just finished Zymolling his car. I'm sorry to say that mine was just as shiny, hadn't been waxed in 2 months and cost £145 less. After a brief rain shower the water reticulation was just as good too. Yes, I too have used Autoglym (and still do for a quick tart up in winter), but nothing has ever come close to Simoniz Original for shine, water repelency or durability, and at just £5 a tin (at least 6 full applications) it's a bargain. Downsides are that it is hard work to apply (3 hours per coat, 2 coats 2-4 times a year) and Holts have taken over Simoniz and being as it doesn't sell well, it will probably be discontinued. If it is, I don't care 'cos I have 20 tins in my garage, LOL.

Over on Scoobynet they swear by Liverpool Victoria. I've had an online quote of £450 (33, 13yNCD, 0 points, '91 1.8 16V C) and the best bit is, they don't give a hoot about mods, security products or car location (drive/garage/street). They base their premiums solely on postcode, vehicle and age of driver. Their disclaimer on the net says no mods, but phone them and mention the mods and you should be fine. My bro' just saved £280 on last years price and moved up to fully comp from 3pty (£320 MR2). Only catch is they don't like under 30's, but a few younger Snetters have wangled in with them.
