"One thing after another" OR Girls and Corrado's d
davidwatsonok replied to Brando's topic in General Car Chat
I've had my 1.8 16V for 8 years and used to replace everything as and when it broke (very frequently) including alternator, 2x starter motors, various hoses, oil cooler, header tank, head gasket. Finally got pished off and did a monty on it when head gasket went again and took lumps of the head with it. Got a recon (Vege) engine, new clutch and recon'd the 'box along with all new belts and hoses. Alternator and water pump. Then went to town around the corners with new springs, dampers, top mounts, wishbones (inc bushes), tie rods, bearings, discs, pads, calipers (rear) and every other bit that rolls or bounces. Just to annoy me, one top mount and one bearing (opposite sides of course) went within 3 months, and then again, but OK now. Then the G/F kerbed the new 17's. Must be utterly insane, as I've spent over £3k fixing a car that's only worth £2.5k. When are the prices gonna start rising with this classic status that TopGear were on about ? Bring on the Scoob, now, please. -
I tried a couple of classic insurers a few years ago. At that time the C didn't appear on their books, and they refered me on to Chris Knott. Got a great deal this year (£406-'91J 16V 34yo 9+NCD 0pts) from Liverpool Victoria. Best bit about L&V is they don't give a hoot about mods, and will pay out on their value (ignore the legal disclaimer on the website and speak to them about it. They will list them on your schedule). They don't care about the cars location (street/drive/garage) or security (cat1 was a waste of cash then). Happy shopping.

I'm told it's on the slip road that takes you into the city centre past the Citroen dealers. We don't have it too bad really, yet. Have you been to Huddrsfield or Wakefield. Worse yet, Sheffield.

Heads up for Leeds Corrados. New Gatso going up on M621 as you get into Leeds. Let's be careful out there.

Should be moving onto an Impreza WRX PPP early next year, so by 2008 I hope to be into the STi11 PPP league or even the future equivelent of the Spec C Limited. Unless I win the lottery, then I should have to make a list :D -
VRev6 - Give LivVic a call and ask them about mods, the thing on the web is a standard disclaimer. As long as you inform them of the mods, they will agree to them and even list them on the schedule at no extra cost. Many have done, including me.

As leew said, try Liverpool Victoria . They beat last years price by £194 and the renewal by £460 for me. They don't give a hoot about mods as long as you haven't up'd the engines capacity. They also don't care where it's kept (garage/drive/road) or what security you have. They do pay out too, or so the Scoobynet mob say, even on the price of the mods if you have receipts and some other proof (photos/boxes etc) so you could have a £2k car with £15k of mods and claim the full £17k, who else does that? Mine was £406 for 34yo, 9+NCD, 0 points '91 16V C with mods. Happy shopping.

My alarm has a shock sensor which seemed like a good idea, 'til the local drunken reprebates realised how much fun can be had setting it off with a slight tap. Ooh what fun lives they must lead. The slight taps eventually progressed to one of them jumping onto the bonnet on Xmas eve (nice pressie :( ) a few years ago. The lad in question was identified and now has a permanent limp :D . It all died down, then the next generation moved into the local and I'm having to educate them now. One smashed mirror, which the c*** obligingly ;) paid for and the G/F's bonnet done 2 weeks later. That c*** is now on the run from the police, but I'll get him. I've ended up spending £2k turning my lawned garden into a drive to get a little peace. Most of the culprits are young lads, and I beleive they do this because at that age they have usually acheived nothing in life and therefore have no appreciation of how much hard work is needed to acquire nice things. Most of them only own a Playstation, and live with Mummy & Daddy, who are too busy getting p***** to teach them respect or responsibility for their actions. ****mod edit****-swearing-vr6storm Apologies for the swearing, I thought it was OK with the spelling errors intentionaly put in as this is acceptable elsewhere. Wrist slapped, lesson learnt.

I had Yoko 539's once. Good dry grip, OK in the wet. What I found was they were appauling in the damp. Dewy mornings or fog had me sliding all over the place. Fun though :D Wore out very quickly too. Always had good experiences with Fulda, cheap too. Currently trying some Hancook, grip like a bu99er but fronts showing signs of wear quickly.

The guy who was bragging about his 14.9s 1/4 mile times, have a look here . Try matching Harvey's 11.74 and just shy of 180mph Vmax. I know what some of you are saying about the image, but I don't give a sh!t about image. Mine will be black, PPP'd, debadged, lightly tinted, silver alloys and I might even loose the rear wing. I will miss my C, but after 9 years it's time for a change.

I've had (and loved) my C for 9 years and still enjoy a good "spirited" drive out very regularly on challenging routes. A few years ago I treated my G/F (and me ;) ) to a day at Rallydrive in their Impreza and my eyes were truly opened by tha capability of these 4WD rally slags. I'm currently saving to buy one (soon) and have been enjoying the very active "scene" surrounding ownership to gleam valuable knowlege. As good as the C is for a FWD car (still the best IMHO) it just can't compete against the likes of Scoobys and Evos. I went on a drive out a couple of weeks ago with some of the S.Yorks Scoobynetters and I had to throw in the towel after just a couple of miles. The woeful inadequacy of 2WD on wet, twisty, undulating, dark moorland roads was embarrassing to say the least. I have had my driving abilities assessed by professional rally drivers, the police and the IAM and have always acheived very satisfactory results, so it had to be the machinery creating the huge difference. Sad to say, but it's time to move on. I'll always look back fondly to my C, but I can't wait to get my hands on my new ride early next year. For Sale (soon) C 1.8 16V met silver grey 17's Scorpion................
-
Just thought I'd have a look at the value of my C on the Autotrader site "What's it worth" bit. Corrado doesn't appear to be listed anymore! Are we really that far out of date?
-
My C is for sale whenever anyone offers a reasonable amount. 1.8 16V '91J Met Silver/Grey 100k (4k on new engine/clutch), Scorpion, K&N, 17s, every component on all corners that rolls/bounces replaced 2yrs ago, recon 'box, Cat1, Tracker.

Meets/Drives. Anyone on here bother ?
davidwatsonok replied to davidwatsonok's topic in General Car Chat
I haven't been cracked by the Scooby mob yet (but I am quite big, LOL). TBH I don't care if a couple of different marques turn up. Just thought it could be fun for a few C's to meet up and share the enthusiasm. Only prob for me is I work weekends, so a midweek run suits me best. Could be a prob for others, and evenings are short now. -
Munkay, that pic of mine you requested on the thread about the Subaru meet shows my twin DTM pipes.

I guess not then. Oh well, another reason to change to a Scooby then. -
I'm just very passionate about Corrados. I've seen too many with bodykits, viper stripes and other tasteless mods. It's too good for that. Love it for what it is. Admire its purity. Enhance it subtely and tastefully, but don't make it something else. Plastic surgeons can turn an attractive woman into a blow up doll, but I know which I prefer. Now, where's me footpump ? ;)

Why???

More like the Rover 220 Coupe. Leave it alone or buy the car you really want. Could be an MR2 T-bar too.

Guildford's no good to me, it'd take me 3 hours to get there. Nothing happening in/around Yorkshire ?? -
