Sorry to post in the wrong section but its getting dark and i need answers! Doing my heater matrix and have removed all dash bolts (and more) as described in a how to guide on here. dash still refuses to come out of even forward a bit. any ideas? ta :)

the matey at vw said some dealers did it as a good will gesture but not this far down the line :( got a new matrix today but cant fit it til monday (my old duffer's gonna help as im crap with stuff like that!) good job there is a guide on here about how to do it :)

ok i know you should always expect the unexpected but nothing could have prepared me for this. i was up 'Bembridge Down' here on the Island parked up on the cliff side watching the windsurfing competition with a lady friend ;). anyway it was raining and the screen was a bit misty, i pulled away onto the cliff road and had got upto around 35-40 mph and put the heater on to clear the screen. rather that some nice heat and a clear screen we were both met with a face full of steam, not good at 40mph. god knows how i managed to stop without going over the edge or up the bank, i couldnt see anything :crazyeyes: turns out my heater matrix decided to expire just at the wrong moment (probably always the case :? ). to cut a long story short, the AA man bypassed the heater system and recommended i get it replaced asap but it was ok to get me home. phoned vw recall dept. this morning and it isnt covered by a recall :roll: but not too bad, just gonna go and pick a new heater matrix up off the hovercraft (£44 something from gsf) gonna tackle it on monday but will be helped by some excellent threads about it by you guys so thanks

my heater matrix mashed up today, steam in my face at 40mph along a cliff road. could have been nasty :evil: :mad: good job my brakes are good!

here is something that helped me when i was looking. VR6STORM typed it, i copied and pasted it :twisted: as for things to look out for(in no order btw) 1)make sure that the oil level is at/near the max and is relatively clean.......much lower points to careless ownership 2)it might sound a tiny bit tappetty(could be down to too thin an oil being used) and also have a very slight uneven idle this is normal,though through the rev-range it should be silky smooth and refined 3)make sure the spoiler rises at either 40/45mph(early cars) or 56mph(later cars)and that it can also be raised manually 4)make sure all the other electrics work too 5)check that there is no oil mixing with the water in the expansion tank....if it is it could be either the oil/water heat exchanger(£40ish part + fitting)or worse the h/gasket(£200++) also check the oil-filler cap...though don't automatically think that if there is a slight mayo on it that the h/gasket's failed as it could just as easily be condensation 6)all vr6's have abs fitted.....make sure that the abs light goes off within seconds of starting the car...if there is no abs light fitted or it doesn't go off then this points to either an expensive fault or that the abs has been removed 7)make sure the s/roof opens and closes without twisting as this can be quite expensive to fix 8)make sure that the tyres are wearing evenly if not this points to the steering geometry being out and could also be an expensive suspension problem 9)door handles are prone to breaking and can be expensive to fix....one of the signs is a stiff handle when opening the door thats all from the top of my head it might be an idea getting a vw-dealer or specialist to inspect it is so that they can also check the dtc's(aka fault codes) with the vag-com software............as these can be expensive to fix and can cause all sorts of future problems hth

just fitted mine and itrs going sweet as a nut. WHAT a noise it makes! Takes ages to sort the cold air pipe so its in the airstream :(
