  1. ones that spring to mind: Has terrible memory but can recall an entire pack of playing cards in sequence Went to school with World boxing champion David Haye and Jade Goody Once repaired Ruth Rendell's and John Suchet's personal laser printers at their homes on the same day oh and as a cheeky plug.....Released a single that can be bought on iTunes (Delamor - Feel so Good  )
  2. just because a film is given 10/10 (which is what I'd give it) ....doesn't mean it can't be bettered eventually.....it's only a scoring system between 1 and 10 after all..............if it was a score between 1 and 100, i'd probably give it a 96/100 ...... not complete cinema "perfection", but really damn close to it..... besides, a truly "perfect" film doesn't exist :) thats my point... 10 out of 10 implies perfection [/quote:gcs14o9w] but can also be read in the following way>>> 9657/1000 (which could equal when rounded) 966/1000 (could equal when rounded) 97/100 (which could equal when rounded) ..... 10/10 I don't think anyone who has seen inception would rate it as 1000/1000
  3. so.. in your opinion you will never in your life watch a more entertaining/gripping/enthralling or captivating film than "inception"...[/quote:1ev9lzsu] just because a film is given 10/10 (which is what I'd give it) ....doesn't mean it can't be bettered eventually.....it's only a scoring system between 1 and 10 after all..............if it was a score between 1 and 100, i'd probably give it a 96/100 ...... not complete cinema "perfection", but really damn close to it..... besides, a truly "perfect" film doesn't exist :)
  4. I recently changed my thermostat switch, and now I get stage 2&3 fans, but not stage 1.....the 5amp fuse keeps popping, so am guessing it might need a new controller
  5. Hopefully that got peoples attention! ok it's not quite as "dramatic" as I made it out to be. But I was playing around with my ABS light in the dash, as since I've had the car, the light has never ever come on. Anyhow I took the light switch out, and pulled out the bulb and replaced with another....my soldering skills are a bit rubbish so don't think the wires on the bulb were soldered in properly... so what I did was push the bulb down with my finger to make sure the contacts were touching, then turned on the ignition and held my foot down on the brake pedal..... Next thing I know there is smoke coming out of the ABS switch in the dash!!!! as soon as I took my foot off the brake pedal, the smoking stopped, so looked to investigate.... I took the abs switch apart again, and looked at the circuitboard inside the switch where I had soldered the new bulb. Probably not a good idea, but I decided to repeat the experiement......did same thing, ad lo and behold, one of the resitors or diodes on the circuitboard started smoking. .....but I'm actually starting to wonder if I put the circuit board back into the switch upside down?? I think there's 5 or 6 prongs on the circuitboard that lineup with the ABS switch housing......but it actually fits in upside down as well. Can anyone confirm the orientation of which way the circuitboard should go into the switch housing, and also tell me if they think this is the reason why the board is smoking when I hold my foot on the brake pedal? Really want to get this ABS thing sorted :?
  6. hmm....the problem seems to have suddenly disappeared?? drove it around for half hour or so, and it was fine.....hmm will keep monitoring this
  7. will check this out tonight.....cheers :)
  8. My clutch pedal seems to be a bit "sticky".....i.e it takes a second or so after I've lifted my foot, for the pedal to come up.....or sometimes it comes up half-way then "pops" up for the last few inches. I read elsewhere it could be the fluids? Any thoughts? Apparantly the clutch fluid is the same as brake fluid on these? (I have an N reg VR6) Is it simple to drain/replace, and what liquid to I need? cheers fellas :)
  9. woo hoo! Irwins are the nuts!! (And so is this forum!!) Both bolts came off no problems! cheers fellas :)
  10. yeah I did have some fault codes relating to ABS on VAG com but deleted them and they haven't returned
  11. the other thread suggested I look round and check the 4 sensors. Do I need to take the wheels off to access them?
  12. have no idea whats going on. I bought a rad switch from here: http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id=407 didn't fit snugly with the switch plug.....so I convinced myself it was because I bought a cheap part and should've gone to VW dealer. So off I went to a vw dealer and got the part.....it does look slightly different.......but it still doesn't fit snugly??? the switch plug doesn't go right down so that the side plastic clip bits connect. What the hell?? could it be that I still don't have the right part? Or maybe I need a new switch plug as well? There doesn't seem to be anything stuck in the switch plug that would prevent it from going on properly
  13. Can anyone help with posting a definitive guide to ABS, and then perhaps we could have it as a sticky? MY ABS light doesn't work - I changed the bulb, and cleared the codes with VAG-COM, but still no light, and to be honest I don't have a clue how to test (apart from driving very fast, and braking suddenly!) does anyone have a step-by-step guide on the following: 1. How to test if your ABS is working (I recall something about turning the iginition key, and the light should come on, then go off after a few seconds?) 2. Which parts commonly go wrong with ABS - how to get to them, what they look like, how to check if they're ok? 3. Part numbers 4. Troubleshooting - component & electrical - which wires should we be checking, fuses, anything else? Really want to get the ABS sorted out , but just don't have a clue where to start! :confused4:
  14. ok thanks. Can you (or anyone else!) confirm that this set will get these 5mm bolts out? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Irwin-Bolt-Grip-Remover-Expansion/dp/B000QW6K8I/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1271235596&sr=8-7 If so I will order them today :)
  15. Picking up the new rad switch from the Volkswagen dealers tonight so will let you know. slightly off topic.... but whenever I go there I keep being enticed by the new Scirroco R!!! Wish I had the wonga to get one! :D
  16. sorry for being a complete div here.....but these Irwin things look like they go on the outside of the bolt? Whereas the allen head hole is what has rounded..... so I put these things on the outside of the bolt and nothing goes in the allen head hole? Also, the amazon link shows a set of tools, but can't see anything for 5mm (i.e the allen key size I was using to get the bolts out) So is the size based on the outside of the bolt?
  17. damn! Wanted to take my thermostat housing back out as one of the seals had come loose....but I've managed to "round off" two of the 3 allen head bolts that hold the bugger on with my 5mm allen head socket :brickwall: First question is, how am I gonna et the buggers out now! They're in an awkward place so tough to get to. I tried filing down a 6mm allen key to see if I could get some grip, but no joy :-( Second question is - does anyone know the correct part numbers for these bolts so I can order some new ones when I eventually (hopefully) get them out somehow!
  18. Just ordered one of these myself to swap out. cheers for the link :) Got my old one off eventually - had to by a 30mm socket from halfords to get it off - but that one I've just ordered from vwspares doesn't seem to fit snugly with the radiator switch plug. The old one fits snug and true (even though it's buggered!) but this new one doesn't want to fit. Have I got the wrong part? I know I have a VR6, but surely it should be the same part? - I bought the second one.... http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=407 but as I say it don't fit properly???? Anyone else had this issue?
  19. got the switch.....but can't get the bugger off! Do I need a specialist tool to unscrew it? Nothing it my spanner set gets close!
  20. Just ordered one of these myself to swap out. cheers for the link :)
  21. Ok I've just about had enought trying to fix my VR6 fan!! :mad2: Took the fan controller unit off over the weekend, and was hoping that when I opened it up there would be something obvious blown inside that I could fix.....but unfortunately its way too complex for me and my £10 soldering iron, and I can't even identify what (if anything) is wrong with it. All I know is my 5amp fuse keeps blowing...... when I try bridign contacts in the yellow temp sender/blue teep sender/black temp sender I get noting but strange "clicking" noises coming from the fan control unit. I've read the "definitive cooling guide" and am getting absolutely nowhere. Have had the thermostat out to check its opening ok and that seems to be opening fine when I dip it in boiling water so know thats ok......but don't know if the temp senders and/or the fan controll unit or the cabling is buggered. Before I started tinkering, the stage 3 emergency fan was working ok.....now the fan doesn't come on at all, and so I can't even drive the thing at the moment! :( Have I missed anything obvious? Any reason why the 5amp fuse keeps blowing? Whats the difference between the 5amp fuse and the 20amp fuse? Is it that one controls 'stage 1' and one controls 'stage 2'? and if so, which is which? Any suggestions most welcome! :D Also, if there's any auto electric experts on this forum in the london area who I could pay to sort this out for me? If not will have to get her to a garage this week.
  22. Its funny you should say that, because I've never actually been a big fan of the standard (if you can call it that!) RS, as I really didn't like the flagship "lime green" colour, as I thought it was too loud and in yer face, and screamed "LOOK AT ME!"..... but I find the new RS500's matt black actually changed my opinion, and because it's not as "visually" loud as a lime-green RS, it appeals to me more. It kinda reminds me of a modern day kitt out of knightrider!
