I'm looking for the long bit of plastic that runs along the top of the door card by the window...mine has a big crack in it. Cheers

All sorted. Vince at stealth sent me another ECU that had been de-immobed. Lets hope that's the last of the problems for the year!

thinking of P/X ing my Storm for an E46 M3 - will I regret it?
jpowell79 replied to jpowell79's topic in General Car Chat
Went and looked at the M3 on Saturday. It does look tasty.... But rather than impulsively buying it (I must be growing up) I told the dealer I'd go away and think about it. Anyway, got back in the storm, and drove home and parked her up. Walked away thinking, what a timeless looking car! The m3 is a beast but there's just something special about the storm... I remember seeing it at 15 years old and telling my mates at school I would get one of them one day.... Never felt that way about an M3.... Any way I've decided ill keep it at least until the new year... Not quite ready to say goodbye just yet! :-) -
Local 2nd hand dealers has a lovely black E46 M3 coupe in stock at a pretty fair price. Am considering part exchanging the storm in for it. I've almost all positive reviews about the E46 M3, solid, comfortable, powerful, well-built, etc. All in all, looks a decent motor, and I'm getting a bit fed up will all the little silly things I have to keep sorting out on the corrado. In the last couple of months alone, I've had to fix the drivers door handle, replace the alternator and tensioner, and now fix the immobilser issue, and it's starting to get on my nerves! I keep reminding myself that it's a 17-year old car, so little things are bound to go wrong......but it just feels like it's something new every week at the moment! Someone tell me I'm mad for swapping it for an M3......tell me I shouldn't do it! Tell me I'll instantly regret it! :-) Has anyone owned both and can offer a genuine unbiased opinion??

just took mine out of my VR6 so thought I'd add my 2 pennies worth, as getting the multiplug off took me a few minutes to figure out. basically, as cazza said, the black plastic thing on the multiplug has to be pulled forward towards you. You can pull it with two fingers but its quite stiff. It pulls forward approximately 2-3 inches....once its fully forward the whole multiplug unit comes off pretty easy. To get the ECU out, the best thing is to free it loose (taking off the 10mm nut on the right and side) then jiggling it a bit so that you can psh it a bit to the left (towards drivers side) then you should be able to bend the multiplug unit out of the engine bay completely so it is dangling out......then move the ECU back to the right again as far as it will go and then you can lift it out.

Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay then..... will give stealth a ring.

thanks.... if I plug the car into VAG-Com, will it tell me specifically which part is at fault? e.g. code 1111 is the key, code 2222 is the reader coil, code 3333 is the immob box, code 44444 is the ECU, etc?
-
Have heard on other posts that a guy at Stealth will de-immob your ECU, but I was wondering if anyone has any idea of how you could do it yourself? My car won't start, and I really don't have £100 to get someone else to do it at the moment. Failing that, anyone know anywhere I can get it done cheaper?

Am really confused. I have an after-market Clifford alarm fitted to my corrado....not sure which one as it was on the car before I bought it....I think its a G5 as the fob looks like this: http://images.adflyer.co.uk/Adverts/adflyer-baydf-107130-1.jpg anyhow, my car is cutting out after two seconds....people have been telling me it could be the immob.....but surely if I have a clifford fitted that now controls the immob over the factory-fitted original? Also, my ignition key....I think its the "B" key, as it has the bit in the middle of the key missing (presumably where the chip would be?) so does this mean its not doing anything with the transponder coil as the transponder has nothing to read from the key? A guy is looking at my car at the moment, and told me I should try getting another key cut and coded, but surely if my key doesn't have a chip in it, there is nothing to code in the key and the transponder isn't actually doing anything? Really confused!!

do you still have the cigarette lighter box? - http://the-corrado.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=66953&d=1340384855 also, if you have the plastic that goes round the 3 fan dials.....oh and the fuse box. Not sure I saw it mentioned, but on the lookout for the long plastic strip on drivers door where the door meets the window above the door card. cheers -
My corrado is seriously starting to frustrate me now! Had the car back on the road for less than a week after my tensioner seized up and alternator belt snapped on me last week. Only just got it sorted out.....then this morning went to start up the car......starts for about a second or two then cuts out on me. I had a similar issue about a month ago, and an auto-electrician tidied up the cables going into the fuse box....but am wondering if it's the same thing, or the fuel pump itself is on its way out? Is there any easy way of checking what is causing this? Do I need a new fuel pump? new fuse box? new wiring? any suggestions guys?

Hi mate, I'm looking for the long plastic bit that sits along the top of the inside of the drivers door between the door and the window...I think its called a window slot moulding (70.12 of bentley manual) , the centre console ash tray unit, and the bit of plastic that sits round the three fan dials, if you consider splitting?
-
so I swapped the belt and tensioner last night.....took me just under an hour in total, which included 30 minutes just to fiddle about getting the belt round the lower cogs from underneath! anyone who said it takes 5 minutes is fibbing! :-) Although to be fair, the car wasn't jacked up at all, and if I had to do it again, I would insist on jacking the car up, and probably then its a 15-20 minute job.

Ok so my car was squealing like a pig for a couple of days then my power steering stopped and when I opened the bonnet I found a shredded belt. I was looking on ebay for parts to order (got a tensioner to stop the squealing) and thought I needed two belts. I thought the VR6 had one belt which is the alternator belt, and another belt with is for the PAS and water pump. Am I right, is there two belts or just a single belt? the reason I ask is because I bought two belts.....and now they've arrived I could swear they are identical! Same size, same width, same number of ribs. this is what I bought - this one as the alternator belt - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200680058428?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 this one I bought for the PAS/water pump belt - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170794856732?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 are these not the same belt? or is there two belts that should be different? Am I being a complete numpty?? any help appreciated!

just over £50 with the postage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-2-8-VR6-CORRADO-2-9-RIBBED-BELT-TENSIONER-C805-/220959954947?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33723d5803

thanks. I've ordered a new belt, tensioner and v-belt for good measure. Like you say I might not need the tensioner, but I guess sticking a new one it can only be a good thing seeing as its never been replaced and the car is on 162k miles

Hi guys, My car started squealing at me on Sunday afternoon, and stupidly I carried on driving to get to work on Monday. Anyhow on the way home last night the alternator belt snapped and I lost my power steering (just as I was approaching some narrow lane bollards!) Managed to get home, but now need to swap the belt. The thing is, do I also need to swap out the tensioner? Presumably because of the squealing it was making, it means a bearing has gone in the tensioner? In terms of the tensioner itself, do I need to just swap out the round thingy - http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/475570325/Auto_Tensioner_Pulley_074145278E_For_BUS_CORRADO.jpg_250x250.jpg or do I need the entire tensioner unit? - http://www.autohausaz.com/secure/PartImages/021145299C.jpg cheers. - Also just to confirm, do I have to have a 7-rib belt, because the belt thats snapped looks quite thin. Do I need to replace both belts?

Yeah the green padding stuff is definitely ruined.......I was pulling some of it out like wet cotton wool. Where was the actual source of the water coming in from in your case?

will take another look. cheers guys

hi there, I need a few bits for my corrado....identifiying them by their correct name would be a start :-) 1. the plastic holder box for the cigerette ash tray (with a centre screw hole which holds it in place) 2. the bit of plastic that goes around the three fan controls (if you took it off it looks like a rectangle piece of plastic with three cirlcles) 3. The lower plastic below the steering wheel. It has three screw holes. My centre screw hole has snapped so it dangles loose. 4. The plastic strip running along the drivers side door where the window glass meets the door. Mine has a big crack in it. cheers

Hi guys, anyone had experience of the footwell behind the drivers seat filling up with water. Every time its wet and rainy I get a puddle of water behind the drivers seat. I am forever mopping it out and putting down newspaper to absorb it. It's been like this for a couple of months, but last weekend I decided to investigate. The water seems to come it mostly when I'm driving round in the rain, rather than when the car is static, so I presume its coming in from the rear wheel arch somewhere, and the wheel is flicking the water into a hole when driving through the rain. So I got underneath the rear driver side wheel and had a look. I couldn't see anything obvious.....so got the hose out and sprayed the water constantly up into the arch to see if I could hear or see where the water was coming in from. Nothing. So then I though maybe its coming in from a different angle.....so did the same for the drivers front wheel arch...again nothing. So I went round all the seams and sills on the car.....sunroof, doors, boot, etc.......still can't find it. This is really puzzling me......is there anywhere obvious I might have missed? Its really annoying because I am forever mopping it, and the rain water stinks the car out! Any suggestions? cheers guys

Hi guys, anyone come across their drivers door handle stop working? the door won't open from the outside which is a pain as I'm having to get in via the passenger door and climb over to the drivers seat each time I get in the car! Can't see anything wrong with the mechanism....and the door opens fine from the inside. When I open the door from the outside the handle comes towards me as expected, but its like it's not engaging the mechanism to open the door. Am hoping someone can tell me its an easy fix and that I don't have to take the whole door apart! cheers
