thats a good price. i can get the whole lot for $2500cdn here and that is $500-1000 cheaper then anyone else around here can manage. caaammon then.. keep taking pics. i've come to page 5 of your project already and i've still got 4 hours left at work! what am i supposed to do now??
-
aha! i saw all that schimmel gear and wondered if they were all buddies or what. i might get one of his A/W setups.... man that's a nice ride. i've been having dreams of mid-engine rados since looking at those DSP speedster pics
-
first off.. sounds like you should go with a 16v. i bought my G60 on my 20th birthday but damn insurance costs are like giving blood. :(
-
i'm a bit backwards to most of you. wasn't particularily into dubs.. but loved the shape of the corrado. wanted one for years, eventually bought my G60 and got a job at the local stealership so i could fix it up on the cheap. after working there and all the time i've spent looking at pics and crazy engine configurations of dubs, now i'm hooked. 2nd corrado shell has been purchased and mk1 golf (rabbit) coming soon! for me it was the full corrado styling package. wheel arches, leccy spoiler, low wide mean stance.. then once i became familiar with the G60 engine, i knew an early corrado was the car for me!!

like mentioned, if its for your girl and she tends to put her foot down, i'd say go with the C.. how would you feel if she ended up losing the ass on the mr2 and ended up around a pole? we get worse weather here than you do over there (we just got like 6 inches of snow in the 1st snowfall of the year last night!! ) but i wouldn't feel comfortable knowing my girl was out in a powerful RWD car with a tendancy to get loose in snow, or even the rain. my 2 cents. (notice the creator of this thread has only posted once? think he's even reading this?? ) now... onto the american cars debate. i currently own 5 cars. '90 G60, '92 Buick Regal (Mom's old beater I keep around because it has a 3.8L six..i've shown nice merc's where its at in that car  ), two '89 chev cavalier beaters, and an '86 "Merkur" XR4Ti. the corrado is hands down the most fun, as we all know. the cavaliers are light (i have 4-cylinder engines in both) little cars, and handle reasonably... they are good reliable cars to boot around town in. i paid $240 for my most recent one... and i've spent about $40 on maintenance in the past year. brake pads, oil, spark plugs, wires, done all that and i don't even have $300 in the car yet (incl purchase). now that says something. on the other hand. if you treat it like crap you can split a chev 4-banger head in two like butter. ask me how i know. the buick is a cruiser. like mentioned... a lot of american's like their big cruisers with big engines and comfy bench seating. it serves its purpose... its meant for old people. can it handle? lol  the XR4Ti i won't get into much because i'll type all day.. but its essentially the same car as a Ford Sierra Cosworth.. built at Karmann too. i doubt many people will tell you a cossie is a shite car that doesnt handle. but again, it has strong european ties. the 2.3L turbo is a nice engine.. and its all north american (built in brazil though). bottom line.. there are SOME nice american cars... i'd drop everything for a '67 mustang... not to mention a '67 GT500 shelby. vipers are nice cars sure... handling? no. corrado's beat vipers at the track with less then half the HP. "Pontiac Grand Am/Grand Prix GT, Ford Mustangs, Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Camaro etc" all crap imo.. the new ones anyway. grand am/grand prix are just fugly, and i don't think they put the GTP setup in them anymore... those supercharged GTPs are a FUN car (in a straight line). old camaros, firebirds, mustangs, trans ams... all nice cars. the new ones i can do without. they've stopped making camaros and firebirds/trans ams now (good to quit before they get any worse i say). keep in mind... my buddy's '72 trans am will pull a full G on the skid pad ;) american cars have their place. its called the seventies. when displacement was king and gas was cheap. ever since then, 99% of the crap to come out of american car companies has been either knocked-off or poorly executed, or both..

Isnt it the 180sx over there, ours are 1.8 turbos. Nearly got one of these myself, but then started looking at s14's (2.0t). it's a 180sx in Japan... thats the SR20DET engine i mentioned, the 1.8 turbo. over here its a 240sx with a 2.4 naturally aspirated. with 25% more displacement in the 2.4L, i'd like to see my friend turbo the engine he has... although i've heard a tuned SR20DET is a BLAST!

G-werks gets a mention in the December 03 issue of The Golf!
G60 replied to biggrim's topic in General Car Chat
daz is on the up and up! didn't even take 4 months for the g-werks name to get mentioned in mags. that says something 8) -
keep us posted chuck... this is still top on my list of priorities when i tear down the spare shell for smoothing/paint. 8)

glad to see the s13 200sx coming up more and more.. they are badged 240sx's over here (2.4L 4-cyl) and my best friend has had one for almost three years now. great car, lot of fun.. but with a charger this car would be a blast. if he doesn't do an SR20DET swap i'm going to try to convince him to turbo the 2.4L.. now that would be a fun RWD car.. he can already do donuts all day the way it is. if i was in europe i'm sure i'd be tempted to get a hold of an RS cosworth... but as i'm not in europe and we don't have cossie's over here, i'll have to settle for ripping down my XR (same body, but with RWD 2.3L turbo) and rebuilding it. :D

dont put lowering springs on stock shocks... will bugger the shocks quickly and the ride will go to shit. ask me how i know... thanks PO. :?
-
you're gonna pay out the nose for all that at a shop. you can do CV boot and engine mount yourself.. and it will be fun if you like getting dirty.
-
you need to setup on a RR.. wideband will help. SNS make the best chips.. i'd buy one of those and set it up on a RR.
-
naw. car's parked. don't matter much now... was just to putt around, i wasn't goin for power numbers.
-
its 15Ib/ft. i torqued mine down without a torque wrench, i'm sure i did it too tight and yes, it definitely makes it more sensative. i've heard of making up a 1" aluminum spacer to make the knock sensor LESS sensative, but i doubt this is a good idea.
-
ive thought about this a little, only thing i would be worried about is interfering with a critical signal like that. i have heard of people hooking up an LED to see when the knock sensor is being triggered.. good idea!
-
best and cheapest are not at all the same thing. especially on a corrado. new hall sender  ..new knock senser good idea too. if you're going for cheapness, stick with the stock chip/setup.
-
looks like you got a great motor there, nice one. ..and its a G60 whoot!!
-
soaking overnight in petrol is what most people do. some people even say its worth it to spend the cash and use higher-octane petrol.. :? ?? YMMV
-
make sure you get a gauge with vacuum and boost
-
did a similar thing avoiding a suicidal old lady crossing the street in a '03 wolfsburg jetta 20vT.. chipped. was $6000 incl. two new BBS rims OUCH glad i didn't have to cover THAT bill  good luck to you mate. shit happens.
-
i agree with kev. g-lader aside, the G60 setup is more bulletproof IMO, and as long as you keep your charger in top shape, you're laughin!

hmm... ya i've got some crash stories.. my friend gets his license when he turns 16, his mom buys him a car and puts it on her insurance plan (he's supposed to pay the car cost back as he can afford). he comes by my place straight-away, and we head down to pick up a pizza, the long way (10 minutes for pizza to cook). so we head down through a nice forest section, we hit a straight... and he guns it. up to 100km, 120km now, 140km... and he starts shimmying the steering wheel back and forth just a little.. giving the car a little shake (very dumb) and says something like "you scared?" all joking.. and he starts to lose it, overcorrects, and into the woods we go. probably mowed down about 10 small trees before stopping not more than 2 feet from a 6 or 7 foot thick tree. then i say "no.. are YOU scared?" if we would have lost it about 50 feet later we'd be dead. car was written off.. he was charged with careless, he's 22 now, has ridden his bike and taken the bus ever since. now THAT scares me. lol about a year and a half ago me and another buddy are coming back from partying on may two four (big boozin holiday here.. doubt you brits have that one) and i'm asleep in the front seat of his GMC safari.. without seatbelt (i was trashed). next thing i know i wake up to a black neon coming towards us quick head-on, he tries to avoid us by going into OUR lane, it happened within about one second from the time i woke up to impact. rude awakening. apparently my friend had started to drift into the opposite lane. head on crash, both vehicles totalled. i stuck my nosebone through my face when i hit the windshield, few more cuts from that... landed in the far opposite corner of the van as we rolled... in a pile of broken beer bottles. we were trapped in the van, eventually i was able to kick the back door out. the old people in the other car had to be cut out with the jaws of life... and airlifted. the lady looked dead. scary business, but they lived... they were pullin glass out of me for it seemed like hours. i was smiling for weeks because i was alive. seat belts kiddies. i could go on for hours with these crash stories but i get sick of typing

oh and harry... the mfa takes vacuum/pressure reading through a line from the intake manifold, the white one i mentioned above.. if you have a leak anywhere in the vacuum system or boost intake tubing/IC it will affect the pressure build-up, and the reading you get on the mfa.
-
theres a procedure for making a boost leak tester out of pvc tube and a bicycle pump on the CCA website. bad spots are down in the joints with the IC. vac leaks.. well get a vac/boost gauge first of all.. know what cam you're running and what the vacuum should be at the timing you're set for. other then that.. i'd pull those old vac hoses out and replace them if you suspect a leak. i get hose from the stealer at trade cost but people say its too much $$$ there so source 3.5mm vac hose wherever you want. the proper place to tap into the vac system is in the vac line *behind the gauges* pull out the gauges, or go at it from below and you'll see a little vac line, was white in my car. my boost gauge taps off the extra spot freed up by deleting carbon cannister... but the best spot is behind the gauges. you'll be able to check/replace that vac line while you're in there. if that vac line is toast the mfa goes weird. my advice, everyone with a G60 go get an air fuel gauge ($27USD from summit racing) and a vac/boost gauge for your car if you haven't already. xmas present

stevemac: yeah, sounds like your car is good.. was just offering another way to test its health. my car... ya really is too bad. i spent spring/summer working out the bugs that i still hadnt gotten to, finally get it sorted so she's runnin NICE one saturday afternoon, go to pick up the girlfriend from the mall and on the way back the car just shuts off. smoke, etc... a wire from the ignition switch to distributor must have grounded or something cuz its burnt all to shit. need to pull that wiring all out and redo it. :? not to mention that i've been planning a full respray and engine/tranny rebuild so i figure now's as good a time as any. anyway.. sorry gettin off-topic. harry1000: well, i didnt see any gains from the carbon cannister delete, but i wasnt really paying attention and i also deleted the isv at the same time. if you're wondering if its good for any psi increase, just plug the hoses like you would if you were taking it out, go for a run and see how she does. if there's no gain just hook at all back up... if there is, pull that old garbage outta there.
