Congratulations Daz :) :) :) tt

yes but if you run a turbo without an IC you run the risk of losing your engine - i'd settle for a loss in boost pressure the chip can only compensate for so much temperature - you get a hot day and busy traffic conditions and you're in trouble. at least with an IC in traffic you'll get some degree of free convection even if you've no forward airflow tt
-
i agree with the other comments here - steve, liam and darren are all genuine chaps and would not have messed you about like that on purpose. tt
-
the problem with a non IC turbo over a charger is the fact you have a compressor housing bolted next to a very hot turbine housing so you will be heating the charge air substantially even if you are running at low boost tt

Is that the 940bhp beast? I read an article on it and in TVR's own words :- "After 300 yards we realised 940bhp in a road car is just stupid......" LOL!! It basically consists of two speed sixes welded together to form a massive V12.....the dyno they tested it on gave up at 940bhp.....so the actual power figure is still unconfirmed  K no this project was stillborn - known as the Speed 12. appparently tore the dyno to pieces. Peter Wheeler (TVR boss) refused to commit to a road car because, as is stated, it is stupid  the 440R and newer still typhon and sagaris have a vinylester body, not carbon but better than f/g. they're both more about track work than top speed, although as Daz states the latter is still impressive. although the figures might suggest they're not that much fastet than previous TVR's, they do have a substantial level of downforce, as TVR have decided to try out a windtunnel programme (oooooooohh) tt

a bit small for a Corrado tt

Well PVW's out, your thoughts on the SNS feature?
trendy tramp replied to Dubcharged's topic in General Car Chat
well bilal, as is often stated - all news is good news - SNS got some exposure even if the feature lacked in my opinion Good luck with it tt -
Which is what the MAP sensor is for. In the case of water in liquid form yes, but a mist is entirely different.[/quote:44e94] what i meant was don't go overkill on the mas of water injected and water in any form in the right quantity will start blowing holes in your engine - i was involved in some research a couple of years back whereby water was mixed with Diesel prior to injection in order to cool the intake charge when high levels of EGR were being used allowing massive NOx reductions. i also recall when upping the water to higher and higher levels the test engine grenading itself  and you don't get much finer mist than in a modern Diesel injector tt

nothing to do wuth gas speed and all about temperature. Different fluids have different 'drop-out temperatures' when travelling in air, depending upon humidity levels. A n/a engine struggles to reach the temperature levels whereby it can atomise finely enough and remain in that state to stay within the air flow. internal intercooling using water injection is fine up to a point - don't go overkill - remember, water doesn't like being compressed and may try to make it's own escape route! tt

for the price of buying them, shipping them over and paying the duty and VAT you could build your own oven, do the moulds and make yourself a set. i should know :) tt
-
nope, definately wrong. the higher rated units have much stronger rods than the golf ones - they look crap in comparison tt

I think you mean Dastek i know they make piggyback modules, dyno's and rolling roads but that's it tt

It doesn't cool the petrol, it stops it sitting next to the hot areas of the enginebay and re-circulates the fuel back to the tank where the petrol in the tank cools the warm petrol from the line. It never increases the pressure in the lines, only keeps it steady and moves the fuel around... 8) the pump supplies fuel at pressure - even at lower pressures there will be a temp rise. but i agree with the reason - prevents fuel evaporation due to heat soak tt
-
fuel pump will not cool the gasoline but in fact the opposite - a pressure rise will be accompanied by a temperature rise tt

will try to find some time - got none at the moment as you can imagine. I'm busy on CATIA most evenings preparing some material for a funding bid for the company. I'm sure I'll get over sometime though. Henny - cheers for sorting the pics, will sort out my own hosting soon enough. tt

Polycarbonate windows I'll have you know Car is slowly coming together, despite changing jobs, moving house, moving-in with the missus (ouch), starting my own business, buying allegros and obsessively buying 20V engines (now have 4, ready for blowing-up :? ) Am currently building my on vacuum consolidated composite curing oven for small scale composite work - starting with an intake plenum for mine. Throttle bodies are on order as is intercooler no. 1. Daz will be doing intercooler no. 2 (won't you Daz  ). Goal is to get it running both turbo and charger by Inters. You can all help by kneeling and praying for me. Couple of pics below. now, better get on, got a car to build :) tt *** Mod Edit - Pics moved to be hosted here due to problems viewing - Henny ***

was that Thurrock Ikea today? I saw a blue K plate VR6, my blue H plate G60 was just behind it tt
-
i'd like to see these as well. anyone?
-
very difficult to get hold of. Jabba supplied me a 'complete' engine without one years ago and it was a right pain in the arse to find - had to get one from germany. May be easier now as more G60's are seemingly being broken. have a couple spare back in Lincs as i know what they're worth.
-
nice car leigh 8) i see you're in Louth - i was born ther eand lived in horncastle till i moved away, but i'm there most weekends working on my car. you'll have to pop over for a cuppa sometime :) tt

tdi 6 speed in a mk 2 golf. a massive beast  you wouldn't believe how much it weighs - i'll get a figure for you all soon now replaced with a 5 speed and going for a decent gear set as Paul (phatvr6 has) - and a load less mass in a lightweight car tt
-
nearly bought an ice cream van - test drove it but the bloke wouldn't let me play the music. thought it would be a lark. can't rmember why i didn't? Hmmm, there's a thought  tt

glad to hear it Beavis :D i know you're struggling for space there  keep going with it, and i hope to see you boys when i eventually get my ar5e over to see Darren tt

Turbo, InterCooler, 6gear, 200+bhp, 420NM torque.... MOD!
trendy tramp replied to Jurgen TDI's topic in Engine Bay
cheers mate! maybe you could pressure test it for me, see what it'll take you know you want to  tt -
the key to efficient intercooler design is minimising the turbulence when the gas flow is diverging in the intake end-tank. A design that diverges too quickly (can't remember the ratio off the top of my head) will casue eddy currents to be generated at the surface causing the turbulence you mentionned and areas of static low-pressure. The best solution is to have nice progressive entry but this is difficult when space is at a premium as Daz said. The converging tank is slightly less sesnsitive to this behaviour and you can get away with a more severe ramping down to the outlet tube diameter. A straight tube into/out of the cooler is one of the worst possible for pressure loss. Additionally, if that car is a G60 I would say the intercooler is a little oversized - look at the size of an RS500 IC - and it's very highly rated. The shape of the end tanks are also not helping to utilise the full height of the core - you need a bit of a slope to speed up flow velocity to the top of the tank - at the moment you're not using the core to full effect. As for the size, do some rule of thumb calcs to size it - easy to get hold of them, just make some reasonable assumptions for max MAF through the engine system, etc etc. Not having a go at all, just constructive criticism, and glad to see somone in th UK's getting off their arris and coming up with this stuff. anyway, a little OT there but good luck guys! tt
