  1. Hi haven't got any finished pictures as my car went straight to the garage for a service and MOT then back to the body shop for a final polish - I get on really well with the garage and body shop - can't sing their praises enough. I normally end up helping with the MOTs when I am waiting to pick up my car! (just turning the wheel, pressing the brake, lights and stuff - I normally get a discount off the work to my car  I have attached some picture of the car after strip down and then in primer. Planning to pick up the car this week going straight into my mums garage! for winter will get some pictures then.
  2. Thank Jim and Vag-hag that make a lot of sense - no point spending money and then worrying if it has been done right. Any other improvements I should consider? Smudge
  3. Hi All - Just got my storm back from a respray, took nearly a year! - I made the mistake of telling them there was no rush as I didn't want a bad job - really pleased with the finish thank goodness. Anyway got her back and now want to make a few improvements - I have got a price from Stealth for 263 cams, chains, clutch, tensioners and remap. Also going to go for the 288 and 280 brake upgrade. I wondered if you think my local garage will be able to do the work as it is reasonably straight forward mechanicing or should I take the long drive down south to Stealth. I should add my local garage a vw nuts but wont have done this before. The other thing I was considering is vibra-techniks engine mounts (have searched a lot but can't find out it they are worth it or not)- I can't think of any other mods as want to keep the car reasonably standard as I am concerned about possibly affecting the cars future value - having said that any other mods you might suggest - have got loom upgrade and tt wipers. One final thing with the engine apart for chains, clutch, cams etc anything else I should consider replacing. Thanks

    Door Seal

Got a friendly e-mail from Germany this afternoon they can't help  Not sure what to do second hand ones aren't likely to be much better than mine. Think I will get it back from re spray with old ones and think about it for a while hopefully the exchange rate might improve! Smudge

    Door Seal

Thanks for the help . 148 Euro each!!!! I went to dealer yesterday and obsolete - they did give me a german website that deal with classic parts www.vw-classicparts.de - it has an English link I have sent them an e-mail. The guy at the dealer said they can take a while to get back in touch. Will let you know if they can get them and if they are cheaper!! Thanks again, Smudge.

    Door Seal

Hi All, Does anyone know if you can still get door seals for Corrados - think I read somewhere they are obsolete (going to stealers tomorrow). The seal that goes around the door frame not the window seals. Thanks, Smudge.
  7. Evening All, Thanks Emu but think I will stick with what I have for now might go for the bling option later. Coullstar getting my car resprayed in Stonehaven by Protrim Autobody recomended by my garage will get some picture posted soon - are you thinking about getting some paint work done? or checking the competition!! Smudge.
  8. Thanks for the offer Emu I am really looking for something new to do justice to my new paint job. I am just outside Aberdeen so could have picked the bits up. Ta also to MK2 I will have a look at getting a new mark II one as looks like obsolete now for the corrado!!
  9. Thanks Shaung60 and Dec that one piece number is definitely bling! I was hoping to keep my car totally standard (apart from headlights upgrade and TT wipers) and just wanted to replace the tired looking bit of plastic that is already there. I will try and fish out the part number I have here somewhere. Not the end of the world as I can always use the peanut butter suggestion!! Thanks again, Smudge
  10. Hi All, I have been having my corrado resprayed (been there for months!! - but nearly finished) will post pics when it is done. I have got all the replacement part for the rebuild in no small measure thanks to the lists posted here, however, I am missing the water tray. I have been waiting for the part from the stealers for months - think they called it a scuttle tray - any thoughts on where I might get it/them (think they come in a few parts) getting the feeling it might not been available anymore. Ta Smudge.
  11. Thanks Toad, Will get onto that. Cheers Smudge
  12. Hi All, I have just bought new handle bl**dy expensive!! but will look the part when my respray is finished. My question is can I use the old barrel in the new handle so I can have a single key for ignition and door? Thanks a lot, Smudge.

    Full respray?

I am gettign my storm resprayed soon and have been quoted £1000 to £2,500 + VAT on the last one! I think I will go with the more expensive one I think you get what you pay for. My car is getting a new wind and a rotten fuel cap rection cut out and replaced with a good one from a donor car. I am however getting a bit worried about dinkus comments: The problem is, that's plus any external trim bits... which quickly add up to another £1,200 - £1,500 depending on how crazy you get. I wondered what extra bits you all thought are essential for a full respray - it would be a nightmare to make a mistake before you start. These are the bits I have thought of: I have got new roof strips. New aerial plastice housing. I want to keep the placstic bump strips on doors and wings but couldn't get new ones so hoping the paint shop will resuse the ones already on the car? Sills were another problem I have them on back order. Window seals - hope that the auto glass man they are going to use will have the correct rubber seals. I have a new rear numberpate light as I bit of rust here and also on bonnet itself - the paint shop isaid it was fixable thank god a new boot must cost a bit. Would really be grateful for suggestion on other bits? I wondered about front sploier and also rearview mirrors can you get replcment black plastic bits or can the paint shop paint upto the black plactic without messing it up? Getting closer to spending money on this and starting to get nervous!! - must be the Scotsman in me lol.
  15. Thanks for the reply Supercharged and jslootweg I wont bother with the neuspeed thermostat thing. How do I check the water pumps and them. switch - sorry to ask not great with electrics. Anyone know the fan on off temps? Cheers Smudge
  16. Think I have it sorted now - found a link from Jan. (http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... =a#p617597) titled:VR6 Cooling questions (Major Breakthrough). It has answeed everything. Blo@dy brilliant this web site!! I noticed a leak in my cooling system a microscopic amount of coolant coming from a plastic connector on the top right of the radiator (bit hose attaches to). Got a new part and some coolant will try than in the morning hopefully change the temp. a fraction back to where it was!! although having read the link above not worried about my temps. Thanks again, Smudge. Hi All, Have been having a few concerns about coolant temperature on my storm. I have noiticed it creeping higher than normal. I have done lots of searches for coolant problems and have a few questions if you can help. Temperature getting above 100 in traffic and then down to about 80 -90 on the open road - which I think from the threads is only fractionally on the high side (oil temperatures havn't changes around 102 up to 110 if gunning it - also coolant level if fine colour ok). The fans kick in at 95 to 105 (both of them) and only runs for 20 secs. - normal or not? I wonderd if someone knows the different fan stages - understand there are three? and is shorting them to check the stadges easy to do? My other question what do you all think of Neuspeed lower temp thermostat as a engine friendly mod? or just a way to wear out you fan motor sooner? Thanks, Smudge
  17. The picture isn't very good but the rust is in the top left corner - where the flash has reflected. I forgot to mention that the rust started at the central locking slot. The body shop cut out the rotten bit and welded in a new piece - just hasn't worked very well. The afffected area is the side to the left of the fuel cap. I totally agree with yellowpfd about durt thrown up by rear wheel problem is I only noticed this after I spotted the rust. I was thinking I could get another body shop to weld in a new piece or I could try and get a scrap yard to cut a piece all the way around the fuel cap of a corrado - do you think a scrap yard would do that? I am in Aberdeen all the good VW yards are mile away!
  18. Thanks for the advice - I will get a picture on tomorrow so ou can see for yourself. Smudge
  19. Rust problems!!!!!! I have a storm and got a bit of blistering paint around the fuel cap. It was barley noticable so a felt it and it got worse - as rust does. I then decided to get it sorted and got it fixed (or so I thought) at a local body shop. The rust came back about 4 months later and the body shop did it again - for free. Guess what its back. I took it to another body shop who said it really needs that section replacing!! any thoughts?
  20. Thankyou all very much for the advise I will have a look on Sunday. Fingerscrossed for fresh air in my car!! Smudge
  21. I am getting very pi**ed off trying to sort a oil smell in the cabin. It is only noiticable after a longish trip - say 20mins. and gets worse at standstill. I really noitice it when I get out of the car and get straight back in. I have had the sump seal changed and still the same problem. I took the car to my local garage (Star Performance about 300miles away) and they said the sump was a little loose which they sorted. The problem has come back and the local garage say a new sump seal will fix it. What do you think? could it be anything else? Thanks Smudge '95 Strom.
  22. thank woody always a bit unsure about cutting up expensive part. I will give it a go next week! Smudge
  23. Hi, I have just fitted the bolster thanks to the info from kevhaywire. I also need to replace the driverside foam that holds your sides (right to be exact) you know the bit that people dig their elbow into to get out. I ordered the part from the stealer (£71) nd it is not the right bit - they say they only have this part. The problem is the part VW supplied has back support built in (green fake horse hair stuff) that my Storm doesn't have. I have just got the faom surround and the back support is a flap of padded leather that rests on metal horizontal wire runners. Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks Smudge mod edit........moving this into "inside your interior" section-vr6storm

    Seat Foam

Happy new year all. Problems already this year!! Where can I get a new foam part for the drivers front seat. The bit I need I am sure is a common fault, it is the section you push on with your right elbow to get out. I have done some searches but no joy. Thanks Smudge
