Intermittent oil light and buzzer - vr6 need some advice
smudge replied to smudge's topic in Engine Bay
Hi Lowfly - think it is the one at the top of last picture - but I would like to double check myself. Anyone help with my question about dip stick? Think I am right in saying my 1995 VR6 doesn't have the plastic bit but wanted to be sure anyone? (pics 1 and 2). Been driving about a fair bit today and for now squeezing connectors has worked! -
Intermittent oil light and buzzer - vr6 need some advice
smudge replied to smudge's topic in Engine Bay
Squeezed spade connectors a bit more see how I get on today - after that Dingbro for some new bits. Going to get my mini comps booted at Costco as they have 20% - see if I have fixed it!! Spending more money than I should but dont feel bad spending money on my corrado:) just as well I hear you say!! The front tyres on the solitudes are still legal but not much grip - the pilot sport 3 get good reviews decided on balance not as sticky as the sp2's but might last a bit longer. -
Need a bit of advice on next step to fix this!! Happened fist time driving home from Stealth having had over £3000 of work done. Just for a couple of seconds - oil level was fine no leaks. Stopped and fault cleared - called Vince said to check wiring which seams ok. Fault returned and senders replaced - all good for a month - stored for winter. Out of storage and light and buzzer!!! Got new oil pump and had vw service yesterday – I know it was unlikely the pump was broken but as planning to keep car and had new sump to fit – bit of peace of mind. No warnings lights on the way to garage! Service done - new pump added and new sump (alu. one). Extended road test and no fault. Drove up the road to Aberdeen last night and all fine for around an hour. After an hour light and buzzer. No leaks and level fine. Having said level is fine can you have a look at the dip stick pictures my car is a 1995 vr6 and from what I have read here I shouldn’t have the plastic bit? If you drive around 2000rmp all good. At around 2500 light and buzzer - stop and restart all fine until 2500rpm. If I slow down to stop light and buzzer stays on 8 times out of 10. The other 2 times when I stopped or took car out of gear light and buzzer off. Have just double checked the connections this morning and cold oil level. Squeezed one of the connectors a bit (blue one) and felt a bit firmer on the sender. Just been out to my mates for a blast in his RS3 (he scared me to death!!) and all good on the way there. On the way back intermittent warnings, not constant like last night. I am thinking the next step is to replace spade connector and 10cm of wiring see if that helps. Any tips on technique as no room there at all? I can only get hand in with car jacked up a bit? Also where should I go for wire and connectors - was thinking about Dingbro thought I could cut them off and go down with them? One last question guys what is the other elec. connector in the last pic? is that for the optional pressure gauge?

Good luck with the flying - the insurance and flying recency are definitely worth taking note of - it isn't cheap - but also worth bearing in mind you will need to fly more than that just to stay safe. I would have thought at least 2 hours a month. Go and have a helicopter lesson as much more fun than planes ;) - be warned though it costs about twice as much and is addictive , but a 30 min trial lesson would be a good laugh. Micro lights are lots cheaper and some of the new ones are effectively light aircraft with cockpit and proper controls and control surfaces(I.e. not just a hanglider with an engine) - defo worth looking into. Also gyro copters are an option (little Nelly in James Bond!) a friend has one but I don't really fancy those:)

Hi Mate - did Storm 2 take the wishbone? - if not I'll take it please;) Smudge -
Thanks Sean - will have a good look hopefully be ok to re use.

I am in the same boat - decided to change my pump. I friend at work used to be a mechanic and he got a price of £113 from vw (he gets a discount) but genuine pump still available. Got it ordered today will let you know if it turns up. They said the pickup pipe that attaches to the pump is now no longer available. Anyone know where I might get that from or should I just use the old one?
-
No worries Craig - totally understand. Going to pass for now mate - I stumbled across your thread and not really thought about induction before. I have loads to sort out on my storm this month, tyres, service, mk4 rears etc better sort those and sort induction another time. Cheers:)
-
Hi Mate - how old is your BMC - would you do £110 posted?
-
They don't come up often with this level of work already done albeit 15,000 miles ago. I would say in the 9 years I have been on the forum blue ones come up less often. I agree with your alcantara concern not my cup of tea but still think it is great value. I like the 928 wheels too. Right colour, great engine work done, respray what more do you want:)
-
Yep blue the way to go for sure;) I see your point re £700 and if you are not in a rush maybe a topper will turn up - perhaps even a campaign!!!
-
Sorry about the AA steer - pity about the age! You could find a local garage and get them to have a look at it rather than the aa or rac. I had a bloke who bought a subaru from me do that. Personally given your circumstances re offshore I would bite the bullet and spend the £300. The car looks great in the thread loads and loads of detail. If I went to look at the car I wouldn't do 10% of what the rac guy would do. I wouldn't be surprised if something expensive crops up you can use the rac report to haggle a wee bit (already a very cheap car IMO). Going back to the ABS issue - get that fixed! Just had a look at the for sale thread before posting - it is a total bargain I am getting tempted to buy another one!! I think 2 on the driveway would look great my other half would shoot me mind you.- the parts alone on it are worth thousands!! Get a report and if ok leave a deposit and go down next time you are onshore. Which rig are you working on? I might be taking you back to work I Scotia pilot.
-
I am no mechanical expert but the build thread has loads of detail and looks like great job - think unused refurb. solitudes included for an extra £300. Abs can be a problem would want that fixing if just a sensor £20ish. You could get an AA or RAC inspection best £150 you can ever spend for the none mechanically minded:) or in your case if too far away to go look.
-
My car is far from perfect still lots to do:) The one for sale on here down south has plenty of history and with all the money spent on it good value at £4500.
-
Hi Ade1882 - I tried to post earlier but must have hit cancel instead of post!! I have a Storm it isn't for sale but you are welcome to have a look for a comparison if it helps. I live in Aberdeen but have the car in Dundee until the start of next month. It is mystic blue and I have spent a fair bit of money £3000 for a respray which included about £1100 in plastic trim and seals!! I think it is worth pointing out that almost all the parts are obsolete so getting a car that has been sprayed recently and has had trim replaced is a good idea - it will pay dividends in the long run. I also recently took it to stealth and had the head rebuilt, cams, hoses, rad. stearing rack, aluminium crack pipe and rad. elbow, chain, 288 brakes etc, etc all cost £3200 but bit big difference 212bhp which is plenty for me and the car is in effect standard. I have spent loads more time and cash getting things sorted over the last 9 years. I guess my point backs up what everyone else has said buy on condition and history!! and consider and VR6 if it is a topper. Can't believe how cheap some of these cars are - almost tempted to buy another!! Good luck.
