  1. Actually, a quick look at the V5 document says it was registered on the 1st Nov, '96! That's almost 97!! Sort of... Does anyone have an idea of how many P-reg Corrado's are out there? ~Matt.
  2. I've got a Mk2 Golf Driver right now, so the VR is going to be reeeeeeallly nice to drive home!! I can't wait! Its a good two hour run too... (Well, it was two hours in the Golf at least :) I'm sure I can beat that!) As for buying Optimax, well I think I'll be living on my credit card for the next month! ~Matt.
  3. Oh! Wait wait!... I forgot, he also threw in a set of 17" BK alloys but they were really, really rough. I didn't want them but my friend said he buy them off me, so it worked out well.
  4. £7,400... The guy looked like the type who drove a hard bargin, and he did. He threw in some little extras though: a complete set of badges, unused interior mats (Corrado ones), replacement pedal rubbers, side repeaters, and a wing mirror, all in addition to the ones already on the car. I'm sure they must be worth a small amount in themselves? ~Matt.
  5. Hehe, pictures will be on their way once I pick it up, rest assured :D ~Matt.
  6. I've been searching for ages, but I finally found one! :) Its a P-reg black VR6 with grey leather interior. 68K on the clock. Koni coilovers (fitted by TSR) and dropped about 30mm. It was in mint condition, inside and out, in fact it was hard to find faults (or they were just very well hidden, but I'd rather not think about that...) I'm picking it up when the cheque's cleared, probably end of this coming week. I'm feeling a bit ill... (I always feel ill after spending lots of money.) But definitely excited!! ~Matt.
  7. If the water is flowing freely and coming out clear then I wouldn't expect a blockage. Sometimes its difficult to get rid of the rusty brown colour. I recently flushed through the system on my Golf, and the brown kept coming back. It took three flushes before the coolant stayed a clear blue colour... Reading what dr_mat wrote, I suspect the rusty gak was hiding in the components. ~Matt.
  8. Agreed! My father owns a Golf TDi and always rambles on about how he can go twice around the world on half a tank of diesel (well.. maybe not that far, but certainly a good distance...) He claims to be able to get 60mpg with conservative driving. That seems a little optimistic to me, but there's no doubting it's an efficient little car. ~Matt.
  9. I love the look of that Pioneer! Its got a hifi-vibe to its styling. For me a stereo must have turny-knobs... I can't stand push-button volume control... ~Matt.
  10. You could also try phoning VW customer services (0800 711 811). They may be able to trace back where/when/and at what milage servicing has been done. ~Matt.
  11. Are you sure they can't do anything about a dent on a crease? I saw a Corrado last weekend and it had a dent in one of the wheel arches. I wondered how easy/expensive it would have been to repair?.... ~Matt.
  12. While I was living in Hatfield I used Mark Tempest Autocentre (vw & audi specialist). Its based in Welwyn Garden City, which isn't too far from St. Albans. I used them for repairs and servicing on my Mk2 Golf (for a couple of years), and never had any problems. Even had the head-gasket done there - no problems. This was several years ago though, and I was only taking in a Golf Driver, so I couldn't say how they'd fare with a Corrado. But based on previous experience I would recommend at least giving them a call... ~Matt.
  13. Quite difficult to do since the wheels are in shadow, i'm not quite sure I've got the brightness right, but here ya go: pic thumbnailed-vr6storm Personally I think if you're going to colour your wheels they have to match colour of the the car... (tho I'm not sure about green). A friend of mine has a banana-yellow MR2 with gold wheels... it really doesn't go :?
  14. Yeah, my Golf has one of those. Its a tiny bolt near where the steering column meets the rack. Funnily enough my steering rack is worn and I keep having to tighten the bolt every month or two. Hopefully I can just get away with it till I sell the car :(
  15. Aha! that would explain why its in some and not others :)
  16. What's that little box of tricks that sits high-up to the left of the washer-reservoir and in front of the expansion tank? It seems to be in some of the engine bays, and not in others.. ~Matt.
  17. Things are becoming clearer now, cheers for the info guys! :) One more quick question: What material is the VR6 head-gasket made of?
  18. Cheers for the replies! So I take it the corrosion could eat away at the head gasket if left long enough? Its strange.. I would have expected the cooling system to have been flushed through regularly, seeing as it had been dealership serviced. The car had been left standing for quite a while though, several months in fact. I think this could have been part of the problem.
  19. Not strictly my own problem, but I went to see a VR6 at the weekend and noticed one thing in particular: The coolant in the expansion tank was a dirty brown colour. I mean really muddy brown, like soup, with dark-brown tea-stain like residues left on the inside. Could it just be old coolant, or does it point to more sinister problems? (head gasket maybe? tho I saw little evidence of mayo...) ~Matt.
  20. G60Dan, I love the complementary red doors and orange dustbins in your picture. Well shot! :D
  21. Do non-heated leather seats get a bit chilly in winter? I can imagine it would be like sitting on a cold plastic chair (only made of leather, if you see what i mean). Sometimes my steering wheel turns into a block of ice. When my Golf's heater went (in the middle of winter) I remember driving in wooly gloves for a few days... Perhaps a bit dangerous in hindsight.
  22. Hi, I've got another question again: Are factory fitted Corrado alarms Thatcham approved? If not should I expect my insurance premium to be higher? What do you suggest if the car comes with a factory fitted, should I upgrade to a Thatcham approved? How good is the standard alarm? Thanks in advance for any replies! ~Matt.
  23. Cheers for the replies guys, that solves the leather issue. How about the previous owners? How many is average for a VR6? Do you think it has any bearing on the overall condition of a car?
  24. Hi there, I've been haging around on this forum for a while now, slowly learning about Corrado's and gathering all kinds of knowledge. I think this place is great! And some of you guys seem to know a lot. My car knowledge isn't amazing, but I'm getting better... I've owned a Mk2 Golf (driver) for the last four years and everytime something breaks I get to learn about it. If I keep it for long enough I'll work my way round the every part in the car! Anyway, I've got a couple of questions that Id like to ask, seeing as I'm now in the market to buy: Firstly, is 5+ previous owners a lot for a VR6? Or average? I tend to think it maybe quite a few, but then I don't have much to base it on. Secondly, (I'm not quite sure if this has been asked elsewhere, I searched but couldn't find an answer) but did standard VR6's (non-Storms) have a leather option? I've seen several about claiming to have a leather interior, from new, but they're not Storms. If it was an option should both front and rear seats (and door trim?) be in leather? And should they be heated? Or have these cars had leather seats fitted afterwards? I appreciate any responses! Thanks :) ~Matt.
