    Sobering...

I know that Andrew Williams who did 133mph in a Renault 5 turbo. He was a mechanic and worked on my 5 turbo at his dads garage.. he said it was a monumental F*%k up!! on his behalf.. serves him right if im honest. . Surprising for him really as he was a purist with his cars and never went out drinking...the one time he did, he decided that the best way to be a cock was to take his mates out for a drunken speed test as that stretch of road from wrexham to chester is perfect for high speed runs.. its also perfect for high speed traffic officers to prey on those who think the coast is clear. It just isn't worth the risk of losing your license these days!!
  4. yeah its pretty accurate compared to a standalone unit from tomtom. it has a GPS enhancer built into the cradle but the gps in the iphone itself i find is pretty damn good. the only time it messed up was when i asked it to take me to terminal 2 of Manchester airport at it was determined to take me to term. 1. I did a comparison with a mates tomtom and it took me to the same terminal so i guess its on par. It gets slatted because its a pricey app. most think that its better to just buy a regular tomtom for that money but a regular unit doesn't have a built in ipod or phone so i think with this app its now an all in one. its turn by turn navigation and performs just as well.. I just looked on amazon.... the car kits are about £99....I know its a lot. but i just haven't found a better one. Ebay jobbies are about £65-80 new.............tomtom also do an adapter for the iphone 4G as well as the original kit is for the 3G/3GS the tomtom app for iphone is currently only £42.99 so for those of you without a regular satnav...its a worthwhile option...the car cradle will break the bank tho... but its worth it coz..well...it kinda looks a bit OEM :D
  5. I have the Tomtom car kit for my iphone its either dash or window mounted with a rotating cradle and GPS booster. It has an inbuilt hands free speeker DC 12v in and audio out. its really secure when its docked. a bit pricy tho. I got a new kit off ebay for £68 posted71rbfR4hAUL._AA1500_.jpg[/attachment:2gn7ordh]
  6. You know wide tyres are worse in snow than narrow ones, right...? Yes thats very true. A narrower tyre in winter gives better traction. although wider tyres give better grip in the summer as they put down a larger footprint of rubber in contact with the road, narrower tyres have more downward force (pounds per square inch) exherted on them thru the cars weight. the narrow tyres dig into the road surface better than summers.. wides just dont work in winter!!
  7. Thanks for the updates Alex. Appreciate the hard work involved in getting this far. Take your time bud im in no rush to strip layers of flesh off my hands flddling about with the window mechenism whilst been frozen to death on my driveway coz my garage ain't wide enough to open its doors whilst inside!! haha
  8. mine is a K plate Neil and presume i would need a cat for the mot . I have found out that it doesn't have to have a cat fitted by law but post 92 cars needed one fitted to pass the ammeneded emmissions tests. However i have heard of a few ways to get a later registered car thru without a cat..............My mate has an 07 plate mitzy evo 9. its 3 years old now and my mate has ran it for the last 2 without its cat.. when he had it mot'd, the tester couldn't find emissions data for the car because, although it was bought from a UK mitsubishi dealer it is classed as an 'import' so it passed without a cat. another way to get round it is to fit an engine from a vehicle that was manufactured pre 92..each engine has its own emissions data...and although the chassis number, registration dictates the age of the car, the mot goes on engine type.. some engines made before the cat legislation, some after etc.. the 1H was made much earlier than 92 so in effect and as my car normally requires a cat to be fitted...it now shouldn't??????? the centre bit of my milltek is blowing where the cat is and its an ideal oportunity to ditch the cat :)
  9. Hi folks. I have a query surrounding my g60 with a 1H Golf rallye engine. The car is a post august 92 car with a cat that was originally fitted with the usual G60 with a PG engine code. At some point in the cars life the PG has been removed and replaced with a 1H. The 1H was the earlier G60 engine fitted in the Golf rallye and the earlier golf G60's my car is fitted with a cat and because its a post august 92 car its normally required to have a cat fitted to pass the emmisions on an mot. the 1H engine i have fitted was made 88/89 iirc and didn't need a cat in the vehicle it was originally fitted to. I have read somewhere that as long as you can prove this to the tester then it will be tested as a non cat. its always been mot'd with a cat but can i remove my cat and it will still pass an mot or not??? 10. I would have thought G-Werks would be closer to you than Jabbasport.
  11. I got a Cavalier turbo leather interior from the site in prees a good few years ago. I agree, it was a fantastic place to look around. Got many an idea spurned on by seeing all the cars in various states. Most salvage yards have gone down the route of more security and I think health and safety plays its part as well. parts are stripped and stored rather than you going round with ya spanners and climbing up 2 layers of cars just to rob the heater controls off a mkII golf.
  12. persistance and perseverance do pay off. Looking forward to seeing it back in all its glory
  13. I have a few dismantlers and salvage yard sites saved as bookmarks on my pc. I found this one today. Its at wjfurbers in the midlands. It doesn't give much in the way of details and looks to be sold complete or maybe parted out. no price either so you would need to phone and ask. http://wjfurber.blue-sock.com/pages/page_2.php?value1=%&value2=%&value3=Salvage%20:%20Cars%20and%20Light%20Commercials&value4=make&value5=160&page_type=&mode=detail&ID=65391 Neo
  14. Ahhhh very handy. I ordered mine as well. Thanx mate
  15. Took the front seats out of today for a quick assesment of how im gonna mount some recaro's fronts. Handy time get the vax out and clean the carpets up.seats back in then topped engine bay fluids up.screenwash and antifreeze.
  16. Ahhhh. I understand and fortunate for you....Go fill your boots then pal.
  17. they are pretty heavy items to be lugging across the pond. Will probably put you over your luggage allowence. Also they is the import duty they will ask you to pay if you declare them so all in all it could work out the same or be an expensive experiment..I'd just stick to parts that can be sourced in the UK...plenty of them. Neo
  18. Im not from wrexham but im not too far away...Im in Connahs Quay. im sure i have seen a few names on the forum from Wrexham..
  19. if thats what you want to call it, then yes!! I was simply explaining further.
  20. technically the car would be there property if they wrote it off as there payout is effectively buying the car from you. The salvage value is the price it would cost to buy the car back from the insurers.. coz its sitting on your driveway and not in a salvage yard or in an approved bodyshop awaiting its fate they will deduct the salvage price and pay you the remainder and let you keep the car.. hence the smaller payout.. this happened to me when my old valver was written off a few years back
  21. Fixed the light in the boot...simple fix, one of the spade connectors had backed off. Topped up engine with oil and coolant. installed a small led below the slider controls for the heater to illuminate the ashtray. Fitted a 2 relay headlight loom and am chuffed with the extra brightness. still need to uprate the bulbs.
